  1. :( Jed said Soler would tell them with his play as to when to move him up. I think this qualifies as a solid sign from him.
  2. C-Castillo, 1B-Vogelbach, 2B-Torreyes/Amaya, SS-Baez/Hernandez/Alcantara, 3B-Candelario/Vitters/Lake, OF-Almora/Soler/Jackson/Szczur. Without scanning through every team in baseball, I feel very confident in saying we've got the best group of position prospects in the minors.
  3. I'm not totally sure what you're saying. But I don't think the team that conceivably trades for Dempster, has the ability to make the qualifying offer. Yeah, they can offer him a one year, 12.5 mill contract, if they choose to. But I wouldn't think it counts as a qualifier, so basically if Demp gets dealt, it's good for him in that way: Nobody HAS to be put in a position of losing draft picks or budget and he'll get multiyear offers because of that.
  4. I think he's pretty underrated, but Raisin brought up a great point with him probably getting a shot in the AFL this fall. That'll probably help dictate what our plans are for him. My guess is most see him as a utility type, but I can see him as a starter, since he's showing a bit more pop than previously.
  5. The more I've thought about the new CBA, the more I realize no team would sign him and lose their 1st round pick. It blows their entire draft budget, in most cases. Yeah, it's worth it, for a Hamels, Greinke, Hamilton, maybe a few others, but not for a guy you're only giving a 2-3 year deal to. My guess is the new qualifying offer in baseball becomes a version of the NFL's franchise tag. I don't see a team willing to give up half their draft budget(fairly close for teams picking outside the top 10) to sign an Annibal Sanchez type very often. If Miami offers the qualifier, it may wind up scaring teams into looking for other options. I'm not sure whether the player has to sign the tender by a certain date, or if the player waits until a certain date, the qualifier gets lifted, but if there's no date on either of those things, then I see it becoming a franchise tag basically. A team may punt their draft on occasion, but my guess is we'll see far less than 10 teams do it with this class.
  6. Hope Garza pitches and has a solid outing. Good to see that Olt's not off limits, even if he IS blocked.
  7. Wow on the Peralta velo. At least we have some live arms in the lower levels, with him, Rosario, and Arias. Any chatter on Rosario's injury yet?
  8. Yeah, unfortunately, I agree with Raisin in thinking none seem very likely. The reason I went there was Marlin mentioning different one for one options (names speculated by me, because no one else made sense)the Dodgers had offered, that he thought were fair, but evidently the Cubs wanted more.
  9. My reasoning is Eovaldi has looked like he'll be successful at the major league level. Needs to miss a few more bats, but he's 22 and in my opinion, probably pitches as well ss Dempster the rest of the way, if given the chance. He's going to be moved to the pen, unless they lose 2 starters between now and the end of the year. I like him a ton, think he's a guy that could move directly into our rotation and grow with us. Rubby? Simply put, his stuff pre-TJS was electric. No. 1, type ability. He's got the speed back, about to go on a minor league assignment and will probably be in the pen once rosters expand. We'd have to protect him, ease him back next season and all, but if he makes it 100% back, we've got an ace. As for Lee, I like him. But while it was the California League, they should have kept him there, instead of moving him to AA. His peripherals were solid, but it wasn't necessary to move him up, especially with conflicting reports on how his stuff has looked this year. Is he 88-92, or is he 92-94? Control has been solid at least. But in AA, he's now been shelled 3 times in 5 outings and a 4th outing considered so-so, at best. Our own Tennessee squad lit him up last night, bigtime. Like I said, I like him, just think he's too hyped for what he's shown.
  10. Honestly, I don't see much of a difference between Asik, Taj, Korver, Brewer, and Watson versus Nazr, Taj, Bellinelli, Butler, and Teague. Bench is fine. I bitched about the Dwight [expletive], but they're going to create some caproom for 2014 one way or another anyway. Which is all I care about at this point.
  11. I would much prefer Eovaldi or Rubby to Lee at this point.
  12. Looks like Nazr's a Bull too. End of the Asik era. Wish we had gotten something for him.
  13. I'm pretty sure that's not actually him on Twitter.
  14. Garza's next scheduled start is Friday, off day on Thursday, also against the Cards. His last chance to start again before the deadline is next Monday night against the Pirates.
  15. Garza said it's a "weird ass" injury and he hopes to make his next start.
  16. Jumbo, what did you think of Geiger and Rademacher?
  17. that's pretty insane. I'd be happy if he's 15-20. Really? I think he'll get to 15 this year at 22. I can definitely see that moving upwards the more he fills out.
  18. I hope scouts left before Russell [expletive] his pants.
  19. Hell, I wasn't even thinking about guys in the majors. I'm still very hopeful Castro can become a perennial 25-30 home run guy.
  20. Stuck wasn't the right word really. But his value to other teams would conceivably go down somewhat. Of course, it's possible we could extend him anyway.
  21. Eh, I'd still say Profar has the higher ceiling and probably the better chance to reach it too, because he's already got plate discipline.
  22. A Garza injury would conceivably force some teams, Dodgers included, back onto Dempster. That said, Garza has less than 10 days to come back and make a solid start, or else we're stuck until the offseason.Would be shocked if Dempster made another start at this point for us.
  23. He doesn't have but one more start before the deadline, so if this is anything other than cramps, we're screwed as far as dealing him goes. Guarantee Dempster doesn't make another start for us at this point.
