  1. Jersey, I tend to agree, but I guess it's possible. Peavy is the only injured guy I can remember getting traded.
  2. 0% if Garza doesn't come back strong very soon. I'm wondering with the amount of teams looking for higher end pitching, if MAYBE someone gets desperate enough to trade for him even if he doesn't pitch Monday. The only top end starters that appear to be out there are Greinke, Johnson, and Shields. Other starters supposedly available are Liriano and Vargas. I guess there's a chance Ian Kennedy or Cliff Lee become available, but that's about it. Plus, our 3 guys. Meanwhile, teams looking for high end pitching are the Blue Jays, Orioles, Red Sox, White Sox, Indians, Angels, Rangers, Braves, Nats, Cards, and Dodgers. I guess I could see a team getting antsy and throwing out a good offer on Garza.
  3. I'll be disappointed if we don't make some progress towards our FO's plan this deadline. Garza's bad luck though. He's not been good enough to where a team would overpay early on. He's the guy that gets you big deal from a desperate team on deadline day. Guess it's still possible, but I figure something pushes his start back again, keeping us from getting serious offers until the offseason. Dempster? We'll trade him. But it's probably going to be for a lesser package than what we already had worked out. Which sucks, but not the fault of the FO.
  4. It appears as if Dempster has screwed with our FO. Kind of hard to think they'd agree to a deal with Atlanta, without an indication Dempster would go there. So he decided evidently to force(try anyway) to LA. So, you tell him you'll hit him with the qualifier, then pitch him in middle relief next year. Dick move? Absolutely. But so is telling your boss you're willing to relocate somewhere, then pukl the plug at the last minute. My guess is by doing that to him, it'd cost him 15-20 mill. If he's a complete FA this offseason, I could see him getting a 3/39ish type deal, since prices appear heading upward again. Put him in middle relief, I doubt he'd get more than a one year, prove you can still start contract for the following one.
  5. Brett's still 4th for me.
  6. Whatever. Theo's thoughts right now? "WTF, I'm about to get bent over by Ned [expletive] Colletti."
  7. Lilly is throwing, should have a simulated game next week, followed by a rehab assignment. So, he's still a little ways away. I guess if they need a starter, they go with Fife, until they acquire one.
  8. Goldstein mentioned it either yesterday morning or the previous night. I had never heard of it either. He said the Ichiro deal must have been agreed to the previous day since he was playing that day too, or something like that.
  9. Wait, so Dempster couldn't get us anything worthwhile this year?
  10. It is, when you understand the Cubs weren't signing him anyway.
  11. I think you're reaching a bit. If the Brewers called up and said we'd take Delgado for Greinke, I doubt the Braves would even hesitate to pull the trigger. Like I said, I was hopeful, but Dempster's in the damn lineup today......
  12. I would too, but it's a kick in the nuts after seeing what we could of had.
  13. Allen Webster appears to be who we're shooting for now.
  14. Yhere's the 24 hours before he can accept thing with 10/5 rights, hopefully our deal IS in place and th hat's why Braves moved on. Plus, dealing Eovaldi leaves them a guy short right now. Please announce this [expletive] before the game tonight.
  15. Leverage with Dodgers: Gone. Hopefully, the deal is done with them. Get this [expletive] over with.
  16. I hope they get Dempster, maybe if Garza pitches Monday, the Braves get involved on him. A package with Delgado, Teheran and one of Minor or Gilmartin would be a haul.
  17. No word yet on who minor leaguer is yet. Edit: Minor leaguer is Scott McGough. Mods merge my thread to X's. He beat me to the punch.
  18. At this point, who all is on the market though? Greinke, Johnson, Shields, Kennedy maybe, Liriano, Vargas, anyone else our guys are up against?
  19. That's great news, but Garza needs to pitch Monday, that's what'll help his value.
  20. He shouldn't have said HE wanted to help us get the best return possible. Saying this now DOES make him look like an ass.
  21. from what i can tell, fredi gonzalez was his manager for 12 starts in 1997-98 and then dempster played on the marlins when gonzalez was the third base coach. that hardly seems like a situation that would lead to them being BFFs. FRIENDSHIP DECLARED INELIGIBLE. That was [expletive] great.
  22. The [expletive] is that. To you guys that live in Chicago: Have you guys heard any of that stuff before? I figure you hear some things from time to time about guys partying and all that. What the hell is this [expletive], I guess is what I'm asking?
  23. It's been speculated he liked playing for Fredi, which is why Atlanta was high on his list. Who knows?
  24. Dodgers moved Webster to the pen a while ago, as he was really struggling, for 5 appearances. Since then, in 9 starts(two starts ago, he only went 1 inning. Rain?) But he's pitched 47 innings, given up 39 hits, 16 runs, 11 earned, 17 walks and 46 K's. So he's definitely been pitching more like the top 100 prospect he was heading into the year.
  25. Blackburn 89-91 tonight and looked better, according to Law.
