    That's another positive move for us. Improves the market for any of our group. Solid move for Kenny, in a way. Gave up nothing, got a guy that could be excellent, if things fall right.

    Pitching, with Hamels off the market, Greinke looking like he will be too, it leaves Sanchez as the top FA. Peavy is right there, because I can't see the White Sox giving him his 22 mill option. Not sure, but I'd think that keeps them from being able to offer the qualifier. After those two, you've got Dempster, McCarthy, Edwin, Marcum, and Lohse. Kuroda falls into the Ortiz/Berkman category, where the Yanks can give him the qualifier and it definitely keeps him from another multiyear deal. If any of those pitchers get someone to punt their pick, my guess is it's Edwin. He's young, very solid, with good stuff. That said, I doubt Oakland qualifies McCarthy, money related obviously. The Cards may let Lohse walk too. But I'd expect Dempster, Marcum, and Edwin to get the tag. And if Dempster's agent is worth a [expletive], he's looked this over and realizes with as weak as this class is, not having to deal with the qualifier, could easily net him a 3, maybe even 4 year deal from someone.

    Back to the qualifier though. Complete list of hitters I see having a chance to get tagged: Hamilton is a no-brainer. I'd say Melky is too. Those are the only two I definitely think a team tanks their draft for. Napoli, Swisher, Bourn, and Upton may receive the qualifier, but I can't guarantee any of them entice a team enough to punt their draft. Ortiz and Berkman could get it and that's a perfect example of the CBA hurting older guys, because this would be either's last chance to cash in.

    Depends on what's offered obviously, but I think last year was an outlier, for the most part, and he's a 2.5-3 WAR pitcher for the most part. Obviously, as you well know, I'm not worried about 2013 at all, at this point. I'm banking on us trading for a TOR type and developing another, to go with Shark.

    Yeah, it's a franchise tag. Those guys only hope is if a team spends big on an elite guy, blows their draft allotment and then figures one of them is more important than a 2nd round pick. It's going to be really interesting watching this stuff play out. Hamels is locked up, Greinke probably isn't hitting the open market either. The one guy licking his chops is Annibal Sanchez, because he can NOT be qualified, since he was traded.

    I'd love to hear a report on Scott's velo. I think he a 89-92 type, but had some projection left, even for being a very old HS senior last year. Right now, I've probably got him somewhere at the back end of my top 30.

    I've just had it in my mind Soto winds up in Tampa. Maybe for Niemann, who's still out, I think. Harmless exchange of players that don't have a future where they're at. The Rays aren't trading Niemann for Soto. I was under the impression they didn't think all that highly of him? At any rate, Soto is a legit upgrade for them, so I could see him winding up there.

    Under. Johnson and *maybe* Dempster. I started to say Maholm, but that option next year looks too sweet and I just can't imagine someone giving us a legit prospect for him. Damn. The doom boner came out, didn't it?

    Justin Bour hit a grand slam. WTF? Not that RBI's are any sort of indicator and he's basically a non prospect, but he has 83?

    If I put the over/under at 4.5, you guys see more or less trades from us between now and the deadline? I'll take the over personally. Dempster, one of Garza or Maholm, Soto, Reed, and Baker.

    could they bring other teams' scouts in to watch that? I thought the same thing. No clue as to whether that's an unheard of practice or not. That said, I hope they do exactly that. Especially with Toronto fighting thru their injuries to the point they're still buyers.

    Imagine how good we feel at this time next year, when it's very possible Javy, Soler, Almora AND whoever we draft are all top 25 prospects.

    Dude, there are probably FIFTY posts on this forum debating offering the qualifier to Dempster. If offered, it depends then, if a team is willing to lose their 1st round pick and the allotment from that pick towards their draft. A 36 year old Ryan Dempster probably does NOT entice a team to do that. If the acquiring team had ALREADY signed Hamilton or another big name FA, it COULD make some sense to give up their 2nd rounder, since their draft allotment is already screwed for that year and sign Dempster instead.

    He's making sure he keeps his OBP high enough. Right now he's at 10 HBP and 8 BB. Time to start using the body armor, hehe...... On a side note, I'm kind of coming around on promoting him. Just not sure he's getting challenged in Peoria. Lake could play 3B at Tennessee, and once Alcantara comes back, I'd go ahead move him up, I think. It'd definitely be a challenge for Alcantara, but I think Baez is certainly the more important of the two and is ready to be in Daytona. Again, it's just a couple of months, so it's not something that HAS to be done, but Javy's ready, from everything we're seeing.

    You saw a decent one that played for South Bend as well, unless you didn't think Justin Upton had a lot of talent. The South Bend players were a given, haha, I did word that a little weird. They have Archie Bradley right now and he could be special if he learns to command his stuff better. And the guy that mentioned him swinging out of his shoes, absolutley! After that first home run he was winging it, but he did end up 3-4. Don't mind it as long as his K% doesn't increase dramtically as he progresses thru the levels in the system. Welcome!

    We don't really have other viable options. My opinion has changed on him, but we may as well let him finish the year out. He's got no value now, so at least see if he can build it back up a bit. Not that I think he will either. But it's not hurting anything, because he's not blocking anyone of consequence, with Brett not being ready.
