  1. No clue what his velo is currently. But he throws a really heavy FB that has hit 98. Has set 92-95 in some HS starts. Throws a hard breaking curve that also has plus potential. Not confident with his change yet, but it profiles as average, if it's on. Plenty see him as a back end of the pen guy. But if he can develop his change and smooth out his delivery, he's got 2 potential.
  2. 4th round pick a couple of years ago. Really raw, nice velo. Lefty.
  3. Now Justin Masterson and Josh Beckett could be on the market. If so, I hope that Shields and Johnson aren't dealt.
  4. I liked the deal for Houston, but Arizona got a league average bat at 3B, controllable guy in Johnson. Borchering is a butcher in the field, almost definitely won't stick at 3B himself, needing to move to LF.
  5. Out for the year. Torn ACL, perhaps?
  6. The more I think about it, the Dodgers make the most sense for Garza, if we deal him right now. He'd be their 2, they're set up to absorb him missing a start or 2, with off days and now that Hamels and probably Greinke are both not hitting FA, he's their best bet moving forward as well. Considering Johnson's supposed pricetag and injury history. They had Lilly and Rubby pitch well in rehab stints today, so my honest guess is we probably would get back Harang or Capuano in a deal with them. Which kind of fits, since we need to fill out a rotation in the majors the rest of this year and next as well. But if Lee and Webster came back, with one of the old guys and maybe Tolleson, I bet we'd do it.
  7. If there is such a thing as "face of the franchise", is it Rizzo or Castro in 5 years?
  8. His size tells us he shouldn't have pop, but 18 doubles, 3 triples, and 5 homers, in 327 at bats at 19, in High A ball is awfully respectable. He's never going to be some 25 homer hitting monster, but I can actually see him as a guy with 40 doubles, 8-10ish homers, that hits for a solid average.
  9. Ofman tweeted word is Garza's off the market now, will try and deal him in offseason. Odd time to take a guy off the market, so my guess is Ofman's taking a stab in being correct we don't move him in the end.
  10. Damnit, you guys are quick. I even get sniped on my own questions now. Awesome to see everyone paying so much attention to these guys though.
  11. Torreyes: 3-3, with a walk. [expletive] yeah!
  12. 2014. Even if Garza is dealt. System will allow for a very solid trade or two, we'll have youngsters contributing that don't cost much and we'll probably sign a FA or two during that offseason. 2015 and on will be dominant.
  13. No one, other than the MLBTR guy. Granted, he's harder to trade now, but he's not OFF the market.
  14. Baez singled home DeVoss in his 1st AB.
  15. And Theo won the crapshoot twice. Meh. Dude. You were a better poster back when you were putting Hak Ju Lee and Andres Blanco as the same piece in your 3 team trades.
  16. Another solid deal for the Astros. Good God, their major league product is wretched, no way in hell we come close to catching them. We're playing for 2nd.
  17. Young whippersnappers and their new fangled ideas.
  18. This is kind of a last gasp for them, if they lose Napoli and Hamilton, which is possible. I think they'll wind up paying up for Johnson, but only after they've attempted to get Cliff Lee, possibly even dangle Profar in a King Felix deal. But I don't see them getting either. Then Texas probably overpays Miami with Olt and one of Perez or Buckel.
  19. If I had to pick our best bets for each, I'd say LA or Atlanta for Dempster obviously. For Garza, I'd say LA or Toronto, and Maholm would be Baltimore or Washington.. Don't see Boston buying and really can't see them or the Cards possibly taking even a slight chance of getting screwed with Garza. Texas seems to want more of an ace. I guess Atlanta would be my 3rd choice on Garza, maybe even KC, to get a jump on next year, where I figure they'll be in buy mode over the winter and if Garza misses a few starts, it doesn't matter as much.
  20. Well, at this point, you've got Shields, Johnson, and Vargas as the names being tossed around. And our 3 guys. It's musical chairs, in a way. You've got Atlanta, LA, STL, Washington, Boston, Baltimore, Texas, and Toronto making noise about wanting pitching. Boston could fall out though and even add to what's available. That'd be a bad development obviously. Atlanta's possibly starting to believe in Sheets, but they still need another guy. LA has Lilly starting a rehab assignment very soon and probably wants to spend their prospects on hitting, if they can. Toronto can still decide not to buy. Texas is threatening to put Ogando or Feliz back in their rotation. Some of this is posturing, but some of it probably winds up happening. I hope we get a couple of our guys sold here, the more I look at it, it's not going to be easy. I'll predict Dempster winds up in LA and Maholm goes to Baltimore. Garza stays put and we try again in the offseason when the FA class is weak.
  21. Yeah, brain fart. If we trade Maholm though, I could see Liriano as a replacement. Marcum or McCarthy possibly sliding into a frontline spot for us, if either takes a 2 year deal. I don't see us going over two years on anyone this upcoming offseason, unless Upton could be had on a decent contract.
  22. Williams catches a ton of [expletive]. Some of it rightfully so. But he's active, no doubt about that. He wants to win bad, every year. Adding Youkilis, Myers, and Liriano, with a horrible system, is a very solid job by him this year.
  23. Personally, I think 12.5 would be a ton for him. If he pitches well the rwst of the year though, I could see it as a possibility. He's a guy I had earmarked for a 1-2 year deal for us as well.
