  1. He knows people that know things type rumors or he knows how to read teh internets type rumors? He's not likely to win us any more games than Sveum will, but none of them would, other than Maddon. But I can easily see Giraradi wanting to jump ship. The Yankees are a mess moving forward. And with the lack of FA available over the foreseeable future, they're going to have to begin relying on a farm system that was considered average and took steps backwards this past season.
  2. Reading thru all the "what will we do" articles, it seems like we'll sign a veteran as a back up to Strop. At any rate, I really think we'll be able to piece together a very solid bullpen next year, without having to go outside the organization at all, or at most, for one piece.

  4. Twins won. If we lose out, 3 is in play. I either want that or for us to win out and get 70.
  5. Congrats Jake. Hope you guys take it all.
  6. Rondon is really looking like a legitimate bullpen piece for next year.
  7. Manny Machado probably just tore his ACL.
  8. Oh, I know. All we can hope for if we trade for a major bat is that the 4/5 pick replenishes the main piece we'd be giving up and in a perfect world the 2nd rounder ends up becoming as valuable as a second piece in a major deal.
  9. I'll be a bit greedy here in saying because of how strong this draft is, I don't want to lose the 2nd. I 'd much prefer getting Tanaka and trading for a bat. With the contract Ellsbury appears to be in line for, I just don 't want him. Somehow adding Cano would be cool, since it'd give us depth to trade from as far as our minor leaguers go. I like Choo, but I'm not sure I'd want to spend 90-100 mill on him and it's possible it takes that. But yet, evidently I'm OK with 8/200 on Cano. Well, this post makes no sense whatever. Sorry.
  10. Good [expletive] lord- There are risks with any pitcher, period. Tanaka has as much upside as anyone on the market and he's young. He costs money and nothing else. These are the reasons he makes sense for a young team to go after him hard, especially a young team in need of high upside pitching. [expletive].
  11. Last year Melton was much better. I think the concussion issue really set him back this year. Yeah, I should have clarified that-Not a big drop off from 2013 Melton.
  12. I am actually looking forward to seeing Minter get some time. Don't get me wrong, losing Melton sucks, but I don't see a big drop off from him to Collins and Minter either.
  13. The main thing is the extra mill or so that comes with the higher of those two picks. That said, I'd like the 4th pick, but I'm not going to be pissed if we wind up at 5.
  14. Arguello, who I trust as much or more than the national guys at this point, has Blackburn at 10, which is awesome. He'll be going to 50 this year too, which will be cool to compare our eventual site list to.
  15. Bill Mitchell is doing the chat, said Leal was the Cub with the most attention. Said Torrez upside is higher, more s thrower than a pitcher currently. Seems odd, given his peripherals anyway. Their manager was very high on Jeffrey Baez too.
  16. Yeah, there's a shortage of hitting available, the price will and should be steep. Outside of Javy and Bryant, I'd be willing to step up pretty damn high to get him. I'd actually take him over Stanton, once I weigh the likely prospect cost differential and Stanton's injury history versus CarGo's home/road splits.
  17. I can't imagine getting CarGo for Lake and Arrieta. His contract is decent, I honestly can't imagine getting him without an Almora being in it as well. Surely they'd get at least one top flight talent back, right?
  18. I'd still like to give Grimm a chance to start, though. Normally, I'd agree completely, but I'm happy to just let Arrieta/ Rusin/Hendricks go after the 5th spot next year. Put Grimm and Villanueva in the pen right from the start and add a frontline pitcher to the rotation. Injuries obviously could change my thinking here.
  19. Rondon is hitting 97-98 and appears to be getting his control back. I think he's put himself squarely in the bullpen mix for next year. I really like Grimm coming out of the pen as well.
  20. Should work now. Just Phil Rogers, but he does actually bring up a few good points.
  21. http://my.chicagotribune.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-77475907/
  22. I understand the thought process there for sure.
  23. TT, I'll keep bringing it up, but 175 mill one time payment, dependent upon how it's handled, could most definitely affect payroll for a few seasons.
  24. They're bleeding Wrigley dry as it is, with concerts and anything else they can already. I think we're stuck in team sucks= low attendance= no payroll increases hell until the major league team becomes relatively decent, increasing attendance along the way. The revenue money will help once this happens, in my mind. Until then, I think the revenue money helps fund the actual renovations. The extra attendance and the bump in all things that come with that, coupled with the TV deal is where the eventual payroll bump comes from. My honest guess is Theo doesn't see the Red Sox level payrolls until the CSN portion of the TV deal is redone. This sounds awful, but as long as a few of our stud minor leaguers are making minimum salaries, we'll be able to spend on a few impact types to go with them. The 180ish mill payroll probably won't come until we're 2-3 years into extensions of Javy, Bryant, and whoever else we've kept around at that point. I honestly do think we've got enough inventory and a smart enough FO to become long term playoff contenders by 2015, even if we're stuck with a 100ish mill type payroll, in spite of Ricketts lack of help.
