  1. Bruce, is there any talk on an Arod deal internally, or is that pure speculation by the fans and local media?
  2. If only Harry was still around to try to say Muthusela... :D Spelled backwards is......
  3. I know Neifi is long gone, but it is still funny to see how he is talked about in the media. This gets me thinking that maybe it wasn't just Dusty. Maybe there's something about him that makes mangaers love him  .  I just had a very disturbing vision.
  4. Kind of off the topic a bit, but since you are "in the know" more than we are Bruce, are there any names you have heard the Cubs throw around that they would like to sign, or get via trade? Also, keep up the good work, as you are the best sports writer in Chicago.
  5. 'Tis so. There's still a lot that needs to happen before there's a deal, but he's clearly the Cubs' guy. Bruce, in your opinion, is this a good fit for the Cubs?
  6. It certainly looks like you were right. Could this be another piece of the Hendry M.O.? Hire a high-profile, well-known manager to take all the heat away from the poor personnel decisions. I think it's more a case of risk avoidance. Since Jim is on the hot seat he doesn't want his bosses to see him take a chance on anyone who's not a big name and "proven". If the team disappoints again Jim can say he got the most provenest manager on the market, so the choice of manager was not to blame. Also I just think Jim is a sucker for big names and big reputations. I think the last statement there sums everything up. Too bad that doesn't ring true for players as well.
  7. I'm also hearing reports if Lou is in, Arod will stay. Lou and Arod supposedly had a good relationship in Seattle. The Boss may have other ideas.
  8. ARod and Cabrera both played for Joe G.........HMMMMM???? He was Bench Coach for ARod Would Mr. Girardi help this situation? How could he help it? Neither player will have much if any say in where he is traded. If they were free agents, maybe. As trade targets, not at all. I meant he could push these trade ideas on Hendry. Urge the organization in that direction.

  10. Here goes 1. ARod 2. Manny......If he wants to be traded and Sox eat some $$ 3. Miggy Cabrera.....I'm not totally sold on the idea he is not avaiable for the right package.....and would be nice if ARam opts out 4. Schmidt 5. Zito, or C. Lee
  11. Hey Vance, if it were down to BB and Joe, who would you think is a better fit for this team? I know it's not Dierker, but just for the sake of argument.
  12. How about Jones and some cash to the Angels for a prospect? The Angels could play Jones in LF (assuming they don't get Manny) and move Garret Anderson to DH permanently. How about Jones and some cash to the Tigers for a prospect? I've read Detroit may trade Craig Monroe this offseason or even non-tender him. No love for Manny? Jones, Demp and 1 of Marmol, Marshall, Mateo for Manny?
  13. Agreed. In fact, put me down as satisfied by Jones' 2006 numbers. Maybe my perception is tainted by the bad season for the team overall, but he did fine. Trade him and upgrade the OF. Manny please.
  14. Has Dierker ever been mentioned? I mean by someone not named Vance.
  15. You didn't. A lot of others have, which is what I think he's referring to. Correct, not directed at you JW. I knew my typing was bad, but ya had me scared there. Thought I was typing things I wasn't even thinking.
  16. how has ramirez's lack of hustle ACTUALLY hurt this team? This year, did not make a differance at all. However I do recall a game in which had he hustled out of the box he could have gotten a stand-up double. Instead he was thrown out at 2nd. That being said, I'm sure that all MLB players have "those days" during the season, but it seems Aram had them quite often. Don't take that the wrong way, I'm a huge Aramis fan and want the Cubs to do what it takes to keep him. It was just an example. The Cubs need to play good hard baseball. Hard meaning "You get paid a lot of money, and it won't kill you to run full out to first base 4 times a game." He didn't have them as often as people percieve. The hustle thing is one of my biggest pet peeves about Chicago sports. Only in Chicago would people be clamoring to get rid of a .300/35/110 a year player because of a couple jogged out ground balls. Did you happen to read my full post? Get rid of??? Where did I say that?

  18. I wouldn't mind Joe, or BB. Lou....well....not so much. BB has seen this team play the last 2 years, and seems to know that WALKS ARE important. And has commented many times on Arams lack of hustle. I think he would be a great choice. I'm sure a lot of posters will disagree with me, but it's just my opinion.
  19. Those are good questions, and I have asked several of my sources Murton-related questions in the last few weeks. The responses have been pretty nebulous. If I were to summarize, the consensus is that the Cubs like Matt a lot, but feel LF should be a power position, and thus would be open to trading him if a good deal came along that improved the slugging percentage of the club. Translation: not being shopped, but would prefer to trade him. And that ticks me off because if I were GM, I would get out of the dark ages, and look to increase power at CF or SS before I dealt a hitter with so much promise a la Murton. It's going to be wait-and-see, nevertheless I think it will be a better off-season than last off-season. Gut feeling Hoops, or do your sources indicate as such?
  20. Ryno needs to be the Cubs Manager. Not sure how he would do, but at least there would be accountability. I'm not sure, but I don't think he has any desire to be a manager. :(
  21. Trade for Manny and A-Rod, sign one of Zito or Schmidt and call it an offseason. If it were only that simple. Oh, and lock up Aram.
  22. Any updates on Jada? I haven't heard anything for a couple of days.
  23. Seconded, I saw the clip of his news conference, it was heart breaking to say the least. Best Wishes Jada, Derrek and Family... Lets keep it up Cub fans. DLee and his family need us. Lets keep this thread going as long as it takes, that way we all keep in mind all of the important things in life. I have 3 daughters myself. I couldn"t even image. We are all praying for you Jada, DLee and family.
