  1. The larger point here is that if you were to trade Pierre and Jones and pick up a Crawford and Cabrera, you'd save roughly 8 million in salary. Couple that with the 22 coming off the books for Maddux and Wood, and the team would have 30 million in salary. That's THREE $10 million per year pitchers, if need be. The team could pick up Zito and still have probably 18-20 million in salary to spend. Or pick up Zito and Smoltz and still have 8 million just to equal this year's payroll. Your starting rotation for 07 Z Prior Marshall Marmol Miller Barring any major trades.

    Who?

Only about 2 months too late.
  3. From Florida's perspective, I bet they would want 3 of the following 4 players: Marshall, Guzman, Marmol and Hill. Done. Preferably Guzman, Marmol, and Hill. Then they would have an entire ex-cub rotation. Sweet. I'd do that in a NY minute. But I'm not sure that would get it done.
  4. Aren't those couple bad starts sprinkled in between his great starts considered "growing pains" we should let our young pitchers go through? of course. but comparisons to 2003 prior and wood seem quite premature. by the way, thanks to everyone for jinxing him tonight... Well, if you actually read my post, I just said that I enjoy watching them pitch as much as I did Wood and Prior in 03. I never once said that they were as good as those 2. I just like what these kids bring to the table. Jeez
  5. With all these interviews, you don't think he got his extension, do you?
  6. Yep. ESPNEWS
  7. 2:30 Eastern Wonder what he will say dude?
  8. Go get em Mark. We need you on the big club.

  10. I just think that it is really fun to watch these 2 pitch. It just reminds me of 03 with Wood and Prior. If Prior rights the ship and the M & M Boys continue to impress and improve.......WOW. Then throw in Big Z, the "ace" and you have yourself a WS caliber rotation. I just love the way Marshall sits with Mad Dog in the dugout. Soak it up like a sponge Sean.
  11.
  12. Sarcasim. Just about everyone on this board thinks Wood and Prior are washed up and will never live up to their hype.
  13. Could Marshall and Marmol be the modern day Wood and Prior......minus the DL stops? We have seen a small sample size, and it looks good so far.
  14. No. We've won the series against the Cards, but then we'll revert back to suckiness. We can do well against the Cards, but not against crappy teams. Same here. Right now I have the stance of. Wake me up when the Cubs are at .500 and playing .600 baseball and looking hot. Well, ya gotta start somewhere. 4 out of 5 against Central teams is a start.
  15. Does anyone else smell a HOT STREAK coming on?
  16. The Trib needs to just sell them already.
  17. Who has the higher ceiling at this point, Gallagher or Marmol? I have heard great things about both. As well as Veal. But I believe he is further down the road.
  18. Why not call up Gallagher or Marmol?
  19. Cuban all the way. He can act like a jerk sometimes, but there is no doubt about his desire to win. Not to mention, he would do what it takes to win for the fans, and not worry about the shareholders and profit margins.....I.E. The Tribune. The profit would get thrown right back into the team.
  20. I would much rather have Cabrera than DTrain. This offense needs some pop. Actually A LOT of pop.
  21. BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO Barrett. At least someone on this team has heart and fire.
  22. Not to derail this thread, but the idea of a NSBBer for GM begs the question: Where the heck has Hoops been?! Talk about a guy who has his ear to the heartbeat of the Cubs organization. . . You're right. I have not seen Hoops around for awhile now. Anyone have any info on his dissappearance?
  23. Thanks Bruce, as always. Any word on Aramis other than day to day?
  24. Wow, 6-0 Pirates over the Reds in the 1st. Nice to see the Reds start their early season fall now.
  25. I understand that completely. And it's why I want to know more of what we have in Cedeno before I give up Marshall and likely Pie to get Tejada. If Cedeno can play SS at a high level, then I'd rather focus my energies in improving the offense in other places. This team can go in a lot of differant directions. Thats what makes baseball fun. I guess we have to just wait and see what Hendry wants to do. BTW, Vance, I would still vote for you to be GM.......as long as you landed Cabrera.
