  1. Don't forget O'Malley. I really think this kid could be good. He needs another year or two to get seasoned.
  2. Bruce Levine to do an update from the GM meetings at 1120 on ESPN1000.
  3. Yes. That has been my thinking all along.
  4. Trading Hill will create another hole in the rotation. It looks like we don't have much of a chance for Schmidt, Zito, or Matsuzaka, so we would need to overpay for the likes of Vicente Padilla and Ted Lilly just to fill our #2 and #3 spots. I don't really like that idea. I don't see them giving up ARod for just prospects either, so I don't really see it happening. In the GM Meetings thread, Hoops said a source of his said the Yanks were interested in Barrett. Prior, Marshall, Barrett, Eyre and Moore for ARod. If you get ARod, you could live with Blanco as the starting catcher.
  5. Jeff, Funny you mention that. I've got a source on the East coast, who has told me twice (a month ago and during the Bears game yesterday) that he expects Hendry will "shop" Barrett to see what he can get for him. He did say he had heard that the Jays, Yanks and Rockies had all expressed interest in Barrett at the trading deadline. Barrett comes into his walk year in '07, and it seems Hendry is a bit nervous about offering him a contract extension due to some negative feedback from Cub pitchers on his defensive limitations. Rather than let him walk for nothing, he would like to get something. The source said he had heard from a Yankee contact that Hendry is intrigued with LoDuca, Pudge, Kendall and Posada, who will all be free agents at the end of 2007, and who he thinks would be good defensive catchers for the Cubs rotation starting in 2008 for a couple of seasons, who can also swing the bat. If they traded Barrett, the source said that the Cubs might look to sign a guy like Mike Lieberthal on a one-year deal to bridge the gap. Add that to the rumor mill! The Yanks, huh? Intersting. Prior, Marshall, Barrett, Eyre and maybe Moore for ARod? That could open up some doors. Just a thought.
  6. Thats is basically what I'm saying. It will be explored.
  7. I'm missing something on this one. ARod has stated already that he has no intentions of leaving NYY, and wants to make it work. Cashman has gone on record saying (more than once since the end of the season) that they have absolutely no intention of trading him. Boras has also chimed in saying that ARod holds the "hammer" with his no-trade saying he won't waive it. So again, am I missing something here? Jim Hendry "Sammy Sosa will be the Cubs starting RF in 2005." Was he? Huh? Whats that got to do with the Cubs trading for someone that has a notrade clause and doesnt want to be traded. I dont think its any more likely than the Cubs trading for Ryan Howard or David Ortiz. I just said look for the trade talks to start heating up....I never said it would happen. You just never know. Thats what makes the Hot Stove talk so much fun. ANYTHING could happen.

  9. I can't believe I forgot that one! It has been a stressfull weekend.
  10. Look for the ARod trade talks to heat up. I think Sweet Lou will push hard for this one. Just my opinion.
  11. Actually, Ramirez signing is likely a good thing for Lee and Soriano. Ramirez is now off the market, so teams looking for offense will have to look at Soriano and Lee. Furthermore, Ramirez leaving the market doesn't remove a buyer from the market as the Cubs still have money to spend and are looking for more offense. So, had Ramirez not signed, a team like the Angels probably throws money at Ramirez and removes one team from the pool. As it is now, there is one less FA to get in the way of Lee and Soriano's millions. But realistically, they were all going to be very, very rich regardless with such a shallow pool. One player likely doesn't affect that very much. IMO with the FA market as it is, I think CLee and Soriano will cash in. I don't see the Cubs getting into a bidding war. What I do see is the ARod trade talks heating up. It would not surprise me in the least if ARod was the Cubs 07 starting SS.
  12. Are the Cubs really this stupid? I mean come on. Aram is the #1 FA this year. ](*,)
  13. This feels exactly like Greg Maddux part 2. I predict he wins 2 MVPs.
  14. LAA Vlad and Aramis killer 1-2 puch. The Cubs coulda had Vlad too.
  15. Does this not remind you of the first Mad Dog go around?
  16. Another big question is....What does this tell all other big time FA about the Cubs?
  17. Seriously, if Aramis leaves, what can this team do? You could try to trade for Arod, if he is even available. Or Cabrera, but both of those guys are long shots at best. The Cubs would be screwed.
  18. Just bought a twelve-pack of blue moon. I don't plan on feeling pain either. Bell's Amber is smoothing it over for me.... Bell's is the bet micorbrew on the planet. In my fridge I've got Dopplebock Big Two Hearted Ale Pale Ale I make bi-mothly trips up to Michigan just to get it. All the way from Memphis?
  19. Nothing confirmed yet. Buster says he BELIEVES the Red Sox MAY have won the bid. There is still hope.
