  1. Well, I for one believe him when he says Prior is healthy. Dusty....um...not so much.
  2. JWCUB

    Wood

Any news on Prior or Miller?
  3. Ahem...ARod...ahem... That'd work too, as long as ARod can still play SS. That's the only way I'd want him. If you could look into the future and see how Prior, Miller and Wood would do along with Guzman it would be quite a move for the Cubs. The money the Cubs would spend on Z would be about the same as the ARod deal too, heck, maybe less. IF Prior returns to 03 form, and IF Hill does as good as projected, and IF Marquis fixes his problems, could this be a July 31 trade potentially?
  4. He'd be a #1. I think it'd be tough to take the #1 spot from Zambrano, but damn would that be a problem I'd like to have. I don't think Z will be the Cubs best pitcher this coming season. :? Hmmm...Lilly? Rich Hill 8-)
  5. There have been reports that Vlad is unhappy in LAA. You dont think Vlad and Santana for big Z do you? Three big names.
  6. another tangential effect of this and the Lilly deal is it allows the Cubs to trade away some minor league pitching without worrying about the depth chart. A trade or two before April is inevitable. Good point. Nice issue spotting counselor. I've been wondering if Hendry is going to surprise everybody with a trade of Rich Hill at his high point. You might be able to get a serious offensive upgrade if you're willing to part with him in a package. This is when I'd try and overwhelm Florida with all the prospects they want for Cabrera, or you offer to restock the Yankees farm team with just about anybody for ARod. The Cubs aren't going to win many 2-1 games with this staff, they need to rack up the runs. The Cubs are going to have to play a rope a dope game this season, lulling the opponent to sleep with the incredibly boring pitching staff. 3/20 doesn't reak of terrible. Marquis does have a chance to have a good year, and if he does, and some internal options figure things out, he'd make great trade bait next season. Well, here's to Larry working some magic on the guy and getting something out of Marquis. Actually I was going from Goonys post here. As I stated before jjgman21. I was just elaberating on what Goony said abou ARod or Cabrera. However, in all fairness, you do get credit for the original idea. No hard feelings?

  8. I think Goony was on the right track. Hendry is "stockpiling" pitchers. What does eveyone need? Pitching. Lets not forget the Cotts trade. Hendry may be planning a big move soon. Who knows? What would it take to get Manny? What would it take to get ARod? What would it take to get Cabrera?
  9. Thanks for the input Bruce. Any word on Suppan? Rumor had it that the Cubs were pursuing him.
  10. Hoops, Any word on Suppan? I believe it was Levine that said we had an offer on the table for him.
  11. Vance will be upset.
  12. If indeed a deal doesn't get done it should be the end of the posting process IMO. Can we trade for his rights?
  13. Do the Dodgers need BP help? Jones plus the extra Pen arms for Penny?
  14. We need front end guys. We've got the backend covered. IMO thats why Schmidt was a MUST.
  15. Are the Winter Meetings over? I thought it was a week long.
  16. Would you go after Manny? Give the Sox Howry, Marshal, Veal, and Pie. That is a lot, but I would be happy to win a WS and do what Florida did. I just want a WS. Then you can develop a good farm system. A friend of mine is 76 years old. He needs to enjoy at least 1 WS Championship. He has been a Cubs fan for over 55 years. So, with that I say go out and do what you gotta do. Give up whoever you gotta give up. Overpay for Manny and take on his contract.
  17. Or call up Cashman and find out what it would take to get ARod..... :-k
  18. Say it with me Jason "Yes to Cubs, No to Cards....Yes to Cubs, No to Cards"
  19. That would make me a very happy Cub fan.
  20. this might mean the inside rumors are that the Cubs are closest so their division rivals are chiming in to drive up the price. just a thought. I like the way you think. Hopefully that is the case because if the Astros or Cards get Schmidt and we get Lilly, it will be rough. Jim needs to pony up. 4/60. I want a WS. Schmidt is a solid #2 and IMO will be worth about 3 years of that.
  21. Now the Astros are interested in Schmidt. :x First the Cards and now the Astros. Per Rotoworld
  22. Obviously that's what we all want. It is looking like Schmidt may not happen, but it might. Your Manny trade makes no sense for them, IMO. I think they want more than just a reliever and the prospects we'd be willing to give up. Don't expect to see Manny in a Cubs uniform in 2007. By the way, If what you want occurs, the "flaws and obstacles" would not stop that team from being a serious World Series contender. I knew I didn't spell obstacle right. But to the Manny thing, it's really hard to figure out what they want in return. At first I thought they wanted a SP. But since they landed the 2 from Japan, with Becket, Schill, and Papplebon, they seem pretty set there. The weakness seems to be their BP. Just throwing it out there.
  23. IMO, these are the steps Hendry and the Cubs need to take before opening day 2007. Step 1: Sign Schmidt. Bad contract or not he is the best option out there not named Zito. If you have to overpay to get him to Chicago..so what? 1 more year....OK. Step 2: Make the trade JJ for JJ. Step 3: Get into the Manny sweepstakes. It looks more and more like the Giants and Dodgers are pulling back a bit. At this point if they want BP help, give them 1 of Eyre, Howry, or Demp. If they want whatever from our farm system......fine. Izzy or Cedeno....sure. Just get Manny In short we would have a line-up (in no particular order) of: DLee Derosa Izzy or Cedeno Aramis Barrett Soriano Murton Manny A rotation of Big Z Schmidt Jennings Hill Prior/Miller/Marshall/Mateo/Guzman....depending on who is still here. Sure, my steps have flaws and obsticles, but it is a start. I would like to hear others opinions.
