  2. The one off Urbina in game 1 was pretty damn awesome. Too bad Dusty ruined it with his dumb ass matchup stupidity. Second most exciting moment in my personal Cubs history. #1 was '98 WC clinch.
  3. I don't know how you're defining "deadline" but Rich Harden was pretty sweet in early July '08. Oh yeah, that completely slipped my mind. That was also awesome, but also very Nomar. More excitement than actual baseball results. Harden was absolutely awesome for us in 08. Yeah, I remember CC getting all of the attention, but Harden was also very good (albeit not as good :)) In 71 IP Harden threw 89Ks vs. 30 BBs and posted a WHIP under 1, not to mention a 3.3 bWAR.

  5. It's not an odd list at all. He probably put the Yankees, Red Sox and Cubs on that list because those teams could give him a larger contract in order to convince him to come. It doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't want to play for those teams. Yep. I recall hearing of several players who have done this in the past.
  6. allowed? Although there are no hard and fast rules prohibiting females in the MLB, I'd imagine that there'd be some hoops to jump through even if she were good enough to play.
  7. If Derek Jeter lost a foot or something in an accident his first game back (playing DH with a prosthetic) would get a ton of pub. But yeah, I can't think of much else that would come close to topping Cubs in the WS. ETA: A woman being allowed to play.
  8. Future Headlines: October 30, 2015: Cubs World Series MVP Anthony Rizzo Announces He is Gay October 31, 2015: Rizzo Sets Record for Number of Straight to Gay Conversions in 1 Day, Internet Explodes November 1, 2015: Just kidding, people were actually just gay for Halloween.
  9. maybe it wasn't during the ncaa tournament, but by draft time rose was definitely the consensus #1. No it wasn't. I remember on draft night, the front page of ESPN.com had a Bulls logo with a picture of Rose and Beasley in the background.
  10. Except for the Rodgers title belt [expletive].... And Kerry's ridiculously baggy khakis.
  11. I didn't hear any Chicago accent there I think what he's hearing is a lack of a terrible jersey or ny accent. No, seriously, she's got a very strong Chicago accent that is obvious to anybody who is not in the midwest, at least compared to your typical tv personality who do their best to eliminate any regional accent so as to further their career potential. The terrible Jersey accent is actually south jersey, which is a philly/delaware valley accent, and it is abominable. Staten Island/Long Island is a much stronger land of accents around here. I was actually surprised when I first started meeting Jersey people who didn't really have noticeable accents. Kustok sounds like a slightly toned down version of all my female cousins. She has a very strong Chicago accent. I usually find her to be gross, but she's actually cute in that video. But yeah, it's amazing what a good makeup artist can do...

  13. Northwestern just landed 7-2 Chier Ajou, Luol Deng's Sudanese cousin.
  14. Except he has the hair that every douchey lacrosse player that went to college in the early 2000's had. It's douche by association. Have you visited a Southern college town recently? 93% of males under 30 living south of the Mason-Dixon line have that hairstyle.
  15. I'll believe it when I see it. How reliable is this guy? Hearing rumors slowly making their way around Twitter that it has something to do with Soler. Something with Soler would make sense, Badler handles a lot BA's prospect/scouting stuff. His twitter says he writes for BA covering prospects, scouting and player development. I'm not going to be productive this afternoon now until I hear what it is EXHALE. It's not Soler: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/majors/international-affairs/2012/2613554.html
  16. I love the secrecy, especially considering the fact that our last FO didn't even have single-secret probation: everything leaked!
  17. This. MMA has replaced the niche that boxing once filled. Nah, boxing fans just get old and die and aren't replaced. If anything MMA pulls fans from rasslin'. and competitive douchin' Is that on the Ocho? Not since Title IX
  18. So, when none of that worked out, should the first response have been to question the organizational development strategy (of which there apparently was none)? First thought should have been, "it's stupid for anybody to pencil in an entirely internally created roster a few years down the line", and then, "especially since Hendry's Cubs are terrible at developing prospects." I'm actually a bit concerned about Hendry's legacy on the org. Certainly Theo/Hoyer did a lot to bring in their own guys and lay down their org. philosophy, but it's not like they've cleaned house. I worry that some old habits will die hard among the folks who are holdovers from the Hendry days. Careful monitoring/evaluation is going to be paramount, imo.
