  1. I thought refs was your usual angle.
  2. -1 for removing "Skokie, IL"
  3. I disagree with valuing HC experience for the meatbally "guys won't respect a guy who hasn't led a locker room" reasons. But I can understand from a more tactical standpoint. HC is a much more "Executive" type role than that of a coordinator. As a HC you have to focus on the big picture as well as being one of the faces of the organization -- in addition to day-to-day duties. A coordinator is more of an executor. It is different, but should not be a deciding factor in who you hire. What was the point in interviewing all those guys without HC experience if you needed a guy with HC experience? Every head coach comes from an underling role at some point. Agree. I'm not watching the conference: was Emery saying they weren't going to hire a guy who hadn't been a HC? If so, that's beyond stupid and a waste of time. I could understand it being a tiebreaker, however.

  5. The Usual Suspects.
  6. Because he was a football player surrounded by friends talking about the women they've banged. Among acquaintances, fine -- but to the media? Puzzling and unnecessary.
  7. I get that he could be embarrassed about having an online girlfriend... But then why tell people about her voluntarily, when you know you're too embarrassed to tell the truth anyway? The whole thing doesn't add up. Actually leaning towards the beard angle.
  8. More like Ge'o, amirite?
  9. This guy has to fight off young, hot college chicks all day long. All day long. But hey, who would want that when you can have cyber sex on the internet. They weren't married, so it was only cyber kissing, tops.
  10. like Bernstein just tweeted how can he possibly say that after he claimed he met her in person? He could say that he lied about that because he was embarrassed it was an online relationship.
  11. Kiper just updated Te'o as the #1 Fa'afafine in this year's draft.
  12. and you're denying the input that trestman will have into personnel decisions, that's an indefensible corner. Yeah dude, no one is saying Emery won't have the final say on who to sign or trade for -- but your statements around Trestman not having a lot of input into those decisions don't make a lot of sense.
  13. Who? NFL coaches are either assistant NFL coaches or coaches of very good major college teams, who are very good because they have NFL caliber talent moving on to the next level. ... With the vast majority of those rosters not good enough to play professionally, let alone in the NFL. And the vast majority of opponent rosters. You've taken an obtuse stance you're now forced to defend based on selectively reading quotes from Emery.
  14. I'm basing it on his complete lack of exposure to top football talent for the past 8 years, the fact that he's a new head coach and working for an organization that has made it clear the GM will make personnel decisions while the coach will coach. Trestman will make decisions about the final roster when it's time to cut guys, but Emery will be the one bringing in the talent. There have been a ton of head coaches in the NFL who came in without exposure to top football talent for long periods of time. To assume that they won't be heavily involved in personnel doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Emery said that he will make the final personnel decisions. No [expletive], he's the GM. But he also said that he's going to use a hybrid model of coaching staff grades, scouting grades, and 3rd party stats when making decisions. Trestman will be involved.
  15. Lovie's effect on personnel decisions did not come into play as much until after he made it to the Super Bowl. i don't think so. lovie had a huge effect o how that d-line was put together, including the tommie harris and tank johnson picks. it was a complete 180 from the jauron era. That was more of an influence in what type of player they needed, not the actual individuals taken. They needed a DT to run the defense. The key is the personnel people selecting the right one. Trestman has been out of the NFL for 8 years, he's not going to be the one selecting offensive linemen. What are you basing this on? He's the head coach of an NFL team. The assertion that he won't have a high amount of input on who is/isn't on his team is completely foolish.
  16. We let him go. Emery had to let him go after interviewing him for HC position and not giving it to him. I'm not so sure it's such a huge loss. Special team success relies as much on the emphasis placed on it by the people in charge as anything else. Toub was fortunate to work in an organization that did more for special teams work than the offense. Almost from the beginning they were drafting guys like Manning and Hester with a huge emphasis on their return ability instead of what they can do the rest of the time on the field. I'm with Goony on this one -- return men themselves play a huge role here. It's not surprising that good college returners are so often good NFL returners, and there seems to be a lot of false attribution with respect to Toub. Will Gould suddenly be a terrible kicker now that Toub is gone? Will our punting game suffer? Will Peppers be less likely to block a kick? I don't think so.
  17. Put me firmly on the Trestman bandWGN. There's no way our offense should have performed as poorly as it did for as long as it did, terrible OL or not. I think we'll see the team make some pretty big strides next season. This is also under the assumption that we keep Rod as DC
  18. Sammy on Twitter is one of the greatest things that could ever happen.
  19. I was wondering if he'd be a massive overreach for the Bears in the first? Definitely. If you want an OL with the Bears' first pick, you have to trade up or down. After the shoving match with McCarron, you know the meatballs would love him in Chicago. Olin's rightful heir at center. Olin used to start shoving matches. Jones wasn't exactly out of line there... McCarron was being a bitch.
  20. "Game over" for Milton Bradley? {drops mic} Ironic... I always thought Milton Bradley was a piece-maker.
  21. 0.0 I should have put the Cutler part in green, huh? The sad part is, I totally thought it actually said that. Nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to Jay.
  22. Pretty low IP from Garza... are they assuming he'll be hurt?
