This would all be explainable if the writers valued different skills that year, like players with a high batting average or pitching aces, but the list is just littered with other HR hitters who were half as good as these two. Matt Williams with 30 fewer HRs than Big Mac and he finishes with 154 more points? It's not as if he brought a whole lot else to the game. The same hold true for Greg Vaughn. This is as glaring an example as any of writers wrongly deeming players on non-playoff teams as valueless.

    something that I think is represented/factored into wins is a pitcher's stamina. power pitchers who rack up higher pitch counts and pitch fewer innings will factor in fewer decisions than pitch-to-contact pitchers. there is value in "eating innings" from the standpoint of saving your bullpen. that's not to say I'd rather have Wakefield than Harden, but I'd view a 2.50 ERA much differently from Halladay than Harden. my biggest baseball pet peeve: Kevin Youkilis i really hate watching that guy hit

    This is the same as it always is. Ramirez, Zambrano, Lee, Soriano, Soto have all been as productive as you could have expected them to be. It's how Theriot, Dempster, Edmonds have overperformed expectations that put us in the position we're in now instead of closely bunched in the standings with Milwaukee as we'd have projected. Whether or not that's what determines value is debatable. Everything considered, I'm inclined to say Dempster.

    rico fata & kessel i don't like Havlat being called a top-5 forward, without the condition 'offensively'. there are many other players i would prefer to have considering their all around game. he is instant offense though.

    everyone worth a crap got injured. They are rolling out an outfield of Francisco, Sizemore and Gutierrez these days and Andy Marte is hitting about .150 for what it's worth, Sizemore is pretty decent
