  1. he still projects pretty well to be something like a 3.5-4 win player; if he doesn't get much attention he could be a great value i like Barney for his cost, but he might be even more useful as a trade piece (my point becomes, i'd prefer Liriano, KJ, rookie RP than Barney, Marmol and an extra $8-10M, if the dichotomy exists) what this team needs most is talent if you have the opportunity sign KJ for something like 2/18M + 6M player option, you take it and be better off
  2. and the year before for Johnson?
  3. did u sex him I let a lot of these comments go in the Theo thread. But I think it's time to reign this kind of comment back in. Thanks! http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb315/pez187b/content_mutombowag.jpg
  4. A big part of passer rating is YPA. Yards per attempt obviously goes up if you complete 10-19 yard passes. I think YPA has more of an effect on QB rating than completion % actually. true, completion% alone would have made more sense to illustrate the point, that he's against type in that respect Brady (0-9 yds): 73.2% (10-19 yds): 62.3% Brees (0-9 yds): 75.5% (10-19 yds): 59.0% Rodgers (0-9 yds): 80.2% (10-19 yds): 64.4% Cutler (0-9 yds): 60.5% (10-19 yds): 66.0%
  5. he does love gambling on rebounds from injury risks Smoltz Baldelli Jenks Cameron Bedard/Harden Hermida not a great track record with those but most were, i thought, good acquisitions; i'm similarly very intrigued by Sizemore
  6. PFF had an interesting observation about Cutler on passes in the air 10-19 yards, he's had a QB rating of 127.8 (53 passes) on passes in the air 0-9 yards, he's had a QB rating of 75.7 (114 passes) he's actually been more accurate (completion %) on passes of 10-19 yards, which obviously goes against type for QBs
  7. i'd love to try robbing Minnesota of Liriano* for something like Barney and Marmol yeah, it'd be a pretty uneven proposal, but they love Barney types (Punto) and proven closers over there and their pitch-to-contact conversion didn't work out too well with Liriano *if his shoulder checks out
  8. Barney's wOBA this season was better than Hill's for both this season and last season
  9. why? Why to what, exactly? Z will make 18 million next year and likely provide about 8-10 million in value. If you eat 8-10 million, you can replace him at market value with that money. You might value him a little higher because of the potential comp picks, but by the same token I'm pretty confident we could find similar production at a little less than market value with the front office currently in place. I wouldn't quibble about the exact number, and that number is an "up to x million" number, not what I think it would require to get rid of him. But for the purpose of the thought exercise, that's what I would be okay with paying to get Zambrano and his contract off the roster. 8-10 seems a little low, to be honest in the worst season of his career, factoring offense, he still amassed 1.9 WAR (worth $8.4M) in just 24 starts (145 IP)
  10. LaHair vs. RHP: 2010: 354 PA, .339/.421/.616 2009: 373 PA, .312/.386/.592 2008: 277 PA, .285/.383/.527 2007: 450 PA, .303/.360/.477 2006: 197 PA, .326/.391/.489 2006: 171 PA, .353/.421/.575 total: .316/.390/.546 vs. LHP: 2010: 116 PA, .222/.276/.370 2009: 150 PA, .221/.273/.350 2008: 83 PA, .200/.277/.280 2007: 151 PA, .187/.252/.281 2006: 53 PA, .159/.302/.182 2006: 53 PA, .255/.340/.383 total: .207/.277/.315 he's always been able to pound RHPs and he's always been unable to touch LHPs*; assuming his defense is adequate in COF (totalzone seems to think he's capable, but that's hardly an authority) i'm perfectly fine with him platooning with Soriano and/or Byrd if no better options present themselves *i couldn't find splits for his past season in Iowa, but i doubt they're really much different
  11. i imagine they'd look to the stands like a contestant on The Price is Right
  12. Roy Williams became the only player in league history to catch a touchdown pass for both the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions according to Elias.
  13. a photo has already surfaced on twitter of Theo getting to work http://i54.tinypic.com/262tj7d.jpg
  14. Ted Lilly glove slam, you have been dethroned. What moment was that for? The 2-run double? yupno, it was when Chep...zin...ski? Scrabble muffed the bouncer from David Murphy, that could have possibly ended the inning but instead loaded the bases
  15. that situation's never come up

  17. how many outs have LaRussa given the Rangers today? 6? 7?
  18. Theo performing his first of many miracles http://i53.tinypic.com/2cia6n8.jpg
  19. i think that's pretty fair to say right now, but i will defend him in that he doesn't have the benefit of play-action passing other QBs have; i'm pretty sure defenses just laugh when he fakes handoffs Is Javad Best and whoever their backup is (i forget) part of the Lions friendly supporting cast? It's hard to be great when you are little threat to run. I havent seen their games except the Bears one, but I'd be willing to bet teams are dropping 6+ back more often than not. for purposes of padding his passing numbers, yes; only Forte has more yards/game or YAC than Best amongst RB
  20. there aren't many QBs with a friendlier supporting cast than Stafford's got, and that masks some of the problems he's had no pressure: 106.5 QB rating under pressure: 60.9 QB rating (for comparison's sake, Cutler's split is 88.4/74.4) given our breakdowns in pass protection of late, it's pretty clear why we're struggling on offense i think that's pretty fair to say right now, but i will defend him in that he doesn't have the benefit of play-action passing other QBs have; i'm pretty sure defenses just laugh when he fakes handoffs
