  1. i was thinking the same thing; a player can't really be much more outstanding or valuable to their team than he's been
  2. wow, Baylor just tied the game with a 87 TD pass on a crazy bounce right to another receiver
  3. top to bottom, this is the best we've looked in years
  4. So much irony not really, Denard actually looks good when throwing the ball, to whatever random destination it ends up going
  5. i'm going to get irrationally angry whenever Martinez does anything remotely competent passing seriously, look at this hideousness http://mgoblog.com/sites/mgoblog.com/files/4eaf5f944a47b_image1_thumb.jpg
  6. holy [expletive]...we kicked a 40 yarder
  7. Fielder would be a slight upgrade from Morse, who can't play anywhere else but 1B, was my main point if they want to spend, put it all towards pitchers who have actually been able to last through a full season of pitching; Wilson or Darvish make far more sense for them than Fielder
  8. love him
  9. Washington going after Fielder as opposed to say, Jose Reyes, would make absolutely no sense at all
  10. their net yardage on punts is middle of the pack, but the Bears are significantly rewarded in those rankings because of perceived weather factors i do not understand your hatred of the bears FBO is like the greatest thing to you, but when they mention weather factors it's "perceived" of course that really wasn't meant with any pejorative tone, my point was more that it's almost purely speculative to try to determine the impact of weather in punting aside from a plain outdoors/indoors standpoint, but i'll admit ignorance to their exact methodology for factoring that the Bears employ Rod Marinelli, a man specifically against whom i'll always wish miserable failure, but i don't know that my opinions about the team itself are wildly biased in any way
  11. since its inception?
  12. after thinking about this a little bit i actually think that uzr does account for position, at least it should, since it separates of'ers by position. i'm not sure if they're isolating position for context or relying solely on park factors here, but whatever it is IT'S NOT WORKING GUYS. yes, UZR does account for position - so Matt Holliday fares well not necessarily even because he's a good fielder, but rather he's good compared to Ibanez, Bay, Willingham, etc. but then that's all accounted for in positional adjustment
  13. you really missed the point if you thought they were being compared strictly as pitchers the point was that Wells' effectiveness combined with his cost-efficiency made him arguably nearly as valuable a commodity as Garza; of course he suffered some arm injuries last season and Garza had a breakout season so things have indubitably changed
  14. so then just trade him in three years for another change of scenery guy
  15. Scouting via play by play data. ok then, how many runs was Soriano's arm worth in '07?
  16. it really looks like Kelly, Rizzo (and Fuentes) and $160M for Adrian Gonzalez's 28-35 seasons is going to look like a steal when Pujols and Fielder end up signing
  17. ...we do? and we gave over 1000 PA to DeWitt, Colvin, Baker, Hill, LaHair, Montanez and LeMahieu, who are all a pretty fair example of replacement player at this stage in their careers
  18. Didn't realize Podlesh had been THAT good...wow their net yardage on punts is middle of the pack, but the Bears are significantly rewarded in those rankings because of perceived weather factors
  19. Cashner has oodles more upside. Wells wasn't just hurt, he was bad. You tried to gloss over this by splitting out August, but it doesn't wash. He sucked in June, July and September, and his brief flirt with decency in August was fueled by a .181 BABIP. I see no reason to go to any lengths to hold open a rotation spot for a 29-year-old who sucked last year. If we get to mid-March and no one has particularly stepped forward or we have some injuries, then he's fine for plugging into a hole. oodles more upside than a pitcher just one year removed from two straight 3.5-win seasons? you've really got high hopes for a guy who's never topped 100 IP in any year of professional baseball and is currently getting battered in the AFL
  20. so...immediately after sensationalizing Wells' injury concerns you suggest we give Cashner a crack at the 5th starter spot
  21. because he had an arm injury you fool the two years before that? both 3-win seasons basically for free wonder if we'd have any use for that
  22. did Randy Wells die? His arm kinda did. his arm looked fine in august
  23. if it makes you feel any better, Jonah Keri bashes Loria and Samson about that for a good part of a chapter in The Extra 2%
