  1. If memory serves, FJM really went after people who kept playing up grinderball as the reason they won, and ignoring that they hit 200 home runs. Yeah, they said they won with small ball and without power but they had 200 HR and 4 200 IP starters with ERAs below 4. and all four well underperformed their FIP; point being that defense was never attributed to their success and the aforementioned players were pretty divisive figures
  2. he's not going to just roll over though that's mostly due to physical limitations
  3. You know what would really cut down on the repetition if you can't keep up with the pace of the thread? Going to a news source for news instead of asking on a message board. or suicide
  4. they combined for 3.4 WAR in 185 innings, hardly Gibson-esque their ERAs were so great because they had some great defensive performances behind them: Rowand +17.2 Scotty Pods +8.5 (or, +11 runs better than Carlos Lee) Uribe +7.5 Crede +5.5 Iguchi +4.1 knowing what we know now, the sportswriters who got routinely blasted by FJM and the like for propping up these guys (the focus was always on their lackluster OPSs) it appears were actually pretty much right in the end (also re: Pods' baserunning), romantic ruminations on bunting aside
  5. yeah, espn nfc south blog posted that, but it doesn't make any sense at all Tampa's allowing just 4.4 ypc on the whole (are opponents losing yards on all runs left?), and looking at PFF, the only teams to actually have any success running to the right on TB were Min (14/72) and SF (17/72), while every other team was held to under 3 ypc when running right against them Bennett and McCoy are both reputed as fantastic run defenders too
  6. i vividly remember somebody talking about it on ESPN saying "he squeezes all the toothpaste out of the tube" which i now realize was only a metaphor for his effect on elbow and shoulder ligaments
  7. Their '06 team was pretty bad. Can't leave the '05 White Sox out of that discussion either. what is this lunacy, they won 99 games that year
  8. Petition for smiley Ricketts/Epstein/Hoyer to be the new troll face. u mad, rest of baseball? http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lkfs7wTE2a1qja9e5o1_400.jpg

  12. fun facts no T has given up more pressures than Jeremy Trueblood and only David Diehl has surrendered more pressures than Davin Joseph, amongst all Gs left side of the Bears DL should have a fun day in pass rush

  16. he's actually right, there is a total of 11 players on the field for a team
  17. aside from his ability to grab a jump ball, i don't see how he's more "dominant", seems like this megatron hype nonsense. Look above. Faster + downfield threat = more dominant. Plus, it's not like Calvin couldn't catch 100 if Detroit used him in that way. It's not like I'm comparing him to DeSean Jackson who is never going to be an 80 catch WR. i think faster and downfield threat are pretty redundant, you can't count them as two separate attributes. if you want to go the speed route then fine, but marshall is a superior route runner, which, as a wide receiver, is more important than speed. also, marshall is a more physical and stronger. i'm not trying to say marshall is clearly better, but the argument can be made--even in the face of the megatron nonsense. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_L7-5D2uVxTo/SvJbf-XkMMI/AAAAAAAAAFQ/iFeyDBp0W-0/s400/double-facepalm-picard-riker.jpg
  18. the Hamilton thing is stupid, but it's grotesque to see just how pathetically little we benefited ourselves with trades during a five-year period Phil Nevin was the high mark there
  19. our two minute drill needs a little work
