  1. explain. Players don't want to go to a terrible team for market value. i meant how we "tried to turn the 2011 Cubs into the 2003 Tigers"
  2. I can be mad at them for not putting on a team on the field that makes them appealing to free agents for reasons other than "We're the only place you can get a starting job." Yes, because turning the 2011 Cubs into the 2012 Tigers by 2013 would have been a realistic expectation. By your logic, they shouldn't be able to sign anyone ever again. I think potential FAs problem is they tried to turn the 2011 Cubs into the 2003 Tigers. explain.
  3. my mistake, i meant to say he was #5 all of those, but all the skills that made him a top-100 prospect are still there
  4. 8) Christian Villanueva (was my #4) 9) Dillon Maples 10) Ronald Torreyes
  5. best of all, Buster Olney viewtopic.php?f=6&t=60927&p=2817036#p2817036
  6. Brandon Phillips was sub-replacement in his first 464 PA before being sent to the Reds he's averaged 4 wins for 7 seasons since
  7. Assuming a substantial advantage in baserunning in comparison to Rizzo then, as he's got the advantage in AVG/OBP/SLG and defensive runs saved according to those projections. it's assuming no baserunning advantage- there's a full 2-win positional adjustment separating 1B and CF (per 700 PA) the differences in offense (.345 wOBA vs. .326 wOBA) covers just a little bit more than 1 win of that gap; it's an obvious thing to say, but 1B demands a lot of offense
  8. Everyone who is not a pitcher. that's pretty lazy and largely unsupportable, talking about a guy who seemingly hasn't missed a start his entire career yes, i'm sure the list of "everyone who is not a pitcher" that hasn't missed a game in 6+ years is very long
  9. he'd have the highest WAR amongst hitters, on a rate basis but obviously others would receive more playing time and post higher overall totals
  10. Probably Rays. Six years of sweet pre-FA control on Myers vs. two years of Shields. Myers has some warts, but Shields has some too pitching outside of Tampa and that defense, plus he's a pitcher and all pitchers risky bets. I don't think they'll get what they hope to get out of Wade Davis, either. i have a hard time thinking of a much safer bet (for health) than a guy who throws breaking balls on only 15% of his pitches
  11. Schaub, Moreno, Hilton playoffs start, so this is where i start to overthink everything Chi D vs. GB StL D vs. MIN am i crazy to even be considering StL D here?
  12. I'd be thrilled to get that from Jackson next year. Jackson would be our most productive position player if all those projections held true but it'd also mean we'd have no chance of seriously competing for a pretty long time, if everybody else's development stagnated like that
  13. why would Schwartz get fired? we overachieved in a big way last year, and similarly underachieved this year; we're still lacking in depth some from the mess Millen left and you see that with the secondary we've had to put out there and awful special teams play it's amusing though, that we actually have a better point differential than the 9-4 Colts
  14. what a clown, this Heyman guy! we know from jersey's emphatic declarations that organizations don't really value team control
  15. much as i love the name, Didi Gregorius has the look of Neifi Perez to him, and i don't really mean that as the terrible insult it sounds like; they're eerily similar in terms of numbers and good defensive reputation it's worthwhile to remember Neifi was a top-50 prospect once, though http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=gregor003mar http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=perez-001nei
  16. http://www.sbnation.com/nfl-mock-draft/2012/12/11/3753698/current-2013-nfl-draft-order of course we have to play Arizona this week where the dream will die
  17. http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/1854755/staffordlimbo_medium.gif
  18. i think we can lock the David Price thread now
  19. Jackson's ceiling probably remains something like Jayson Werth or Nick Swisher, though the odds of reaching it aren't near what some thought it was before the year weren't there Jim Edmonds comparisons from scouts when he was drafted?
  20. Rich Rod is best suited for a smaller profile job where his indifference toward recruiting becomes less of a detriment he seems to be doing OK at Arizona, though i don't really know how upset they are over his handling of Matt Scott's concussion
  21. tranny's calculator: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjL2eBSl-d4RdEpNRk1wZl9kb2FBUWpGbUEyYllfLWc#gid=0
  22. that possibility's also open with onside kicks
