  1. How many more games before the AFL is over? And does anybody how impressive EPATT's .300ish Avg is in the AFL? Does his showing warrant a promotion all the way to AA to start the season? The AFL is traditionally a highly offensive league. Think thin Arizona air and Spring training ballparks. Many good players put up .320+ averages each year.
  2. Angel strikes out the side in the first (including Howie Kendrick), then gives up 2 in the second on 2BB and 2 singles. Through 5, Angel's line: 5IP 5H 2ER 2 BB 6K Very Kerry Wood like.
  3. Maybe for Miguel Cabrera. Maybe. Not only is Z already one of the top 10 starters in baseball, It's obvious he's on the doorstep of something MUCH better. Come to think of it, I don't trade him for anyone straight up.
  4. That's what we need to improve. Have you looked at Giles slg% splits between petco and the road? He could easily hit 25-30 playing in the NL central. As far as going cheap....why? We have money to spend and a glaring hole in right field.
  5. Down by one with two outs, Murton comes through with an RBI double to tie it.
  6. Murton goes 1-3, lowering his average to .480.
  7. We're giving up WAY too much there. No way do we trade Prior AND ARam for A-Rod. I don't think a single player in baseball is worth both Prior AND ARam. There are hardly any TWO players I would trade Prior and Ramirez for. Both young top notch talents yet to enter their prime. In virtually any acceptable scenario, we would be adding payroll AND getting older. The best I can come up with is Cabrera and Beckett/Dontrelle. Maybe. People are vastly underestimating Mark Prior. This is a guy who, after a disappointing season, has a career 3.24 ERA (better than Johan Santana, Carlos Zambrano or Curt Schilling) and 1.19 WHIP who will be 25 for most of next season. Have we forgotten how rare this is? His career numbers across the board mirror those of Roger Clemens. His baseball intelligence is through the roof and he is highly disciplined. It would be hard to trade this guy straight up for ANYONE, and pretend that it gives our team a better chance to win the world series in the next five years. You advocate not only trading this man away, but tossing in the heart of our lineup, a .300 hitter, our enigmatic center fielder and a live bullpen arm.................................................................................for one man? No thank you.
  8. I agree that "eventful" does not necessarily mean we improve. However, my point was that I believe Hendry feels a great amount of pressure to win NOW (because of the reasons illustrated above). He can't have watched the entire season without develping a good idea of what we need (OBP%). Obviously Jacque Jones and Juan Pierre < Brian Giles and Marcus Giles. I imagine he knows this. Do you really believe this? If we added just Brian and Marcus our team OBP% skyrockets. Murton Giles Lee Giles Ramirez Barrett Cedeno Patterson That's just two pickups, well within our budget. This lineup would score runs, undoubtedly.
  9. I really hope/think that Hendry realizes a window is open for the cubs right now, but that window will soon be closing. Perhaps we will only get one or two seasons where Prior, Wood and Zambrano are all pitching at the top of their game. Jim has to know this, and have all the other pieces in place if and when it occurs. He has done a good job of this so far, IMO. This is why I think we will have a very eventful offseason.
  10. Craig Biggio has more homeruns than our power hitting/strikeout prone right-fielder. :(
  11. I'm confused. From what I understand, Palmeiro simply stated that Miggy gave him B-12 (which Tejada admitted) and it caused the faulty test. There was never any implication involving Tejada and steroids, right?
  12. Not really important but there were only two on.
  13. Lee intentionally walked. Nomar doubles in two. Cubs lead.
  14. Okay. New lineup. Murton Maddux (bunt 'em over) Prior (knock 'em in) Lee Garciaparra Zambrano Burnitz Barrett
  15. Neifi walks. Bases loaded. We are officially in the twilight zone.
  16. It is sickening to see Derrek deprived of having Murton on base all the time at the top.
  17. Murton singles up the middle. On an 0-2 pitch. At bat twice, on base twice. Why bat him at the top?
  18. Although Lee has been the best player all year, it will be between Pujols and Jones. I can't see how the writers could not vote for Pujols. We're all very used to saying that the cardinals lineup is loaded, but this year they lost Renteria to Boston, Rolen to injury, and Edmonds is declining. Pujols has carried the best team in baseball. He (if not Lee) should win the MVP.
  19. Although it looks like we will yet again fail to score with runners on third and less than 2 outs, it's kind of understandable since Murton is always on and we're hitting him so low in the order. Check that: Prior drives in Murton.
  20. Murton clogging again. That OPS is nearing 1.000.
  21. Based on what? I haven't heard anyone within the organization say that they prefer Furcal over Nomar and don't want Walker back. Recent Chicago paper articles and Gammons. Gammons has been throwing out that the Cubs don't really want Nomar in the infield anymore, and there's been a few articles about Chicago being a likely destination for Furcal and the Cubs having interest. Haven't we all learned not to trust Gammons by now? Especially when it comes to Nomar Garciaparra. If Gammons stated "Nomar is a man" I would become very suspicious.
  22. Actually that was all four of Derrek's K's tonight. They all looked the same, though.
  23. Based loaded. Nobody out. Top of the order. Zero runs. Unreal.
