  1. Murton whom JH did trade for. Oh never mind! Sorry, boys! I didn't mean to ruin the pessimist party. It doesn't take a genius to recognize a pattern. Hendry has a bad, bad habit of overpaying for marginal players. This is another example of this. It's a redundant, bad, stupid move. It's a waste of $2.5m of budget when you have Cedeno who could put up these numbers. Or, again, if you had a competent maganer who knew what Neifi's place was, it wouldn't be as bad. But we have Baker. The alcohol to an alcoholic is a perfect analogy.
  2. So who's taking bets on which left-handed "backup" left fielder we sign? :x
  3. Same way George W. Bush got into Yale. An accident of birth.
  4. 2 year. 2 years. That's bloody inexcusable given who our manager is. If we had a competent human being calling the shots, Neifi would be the 25th man. However, we have a special needs manager, who's incapable of doing anything right. He sucks in game, he sucks filling out the lineup card, he uses veterans like a drunk uses gin, and he can't even keep his players from acting like buffoons. We could hire a 9 year old to do these thing. Hendry needs to go, too. I'm sick of him overpaying for mediocrity, but somehow never finding enough money to sign the actual impact guys this team needs. I have as much faith in his ability to assert himself onto Baker as I have in winning the lotto tonight. Ditch this crap.
  5. http://surbrook.devermore.net/adaptionsbook/vezzini.jpg Inconceivable! There's no way Gillick could be that dumb.
  6. Bruce, I see you lurking. Any info on this that you're privy to? :D
  7. Sure that's one way you could go about it, and I'm not saying that's bad at all. Hoops was talking about shying away from Bradley because of player cost, and I pointed out that it might not be necessary if he's non-tendered. I'd rather make sure I got him and give the Dodgers some of our bulk arms.
  8. Why? Any CF is just a stop-gap rental for Pie. No reason to think big at the only position out of which the farm is expected to produce an all-star. Because there's no reason to accept a mediocre to bad stopgap when a good stopgap is available.
  9. Understood, but despite what the link says, I doubt the Dodgers would non-tender him. There are enough teams needing a CF with a decent bat that someone will surely offer the Dodgers a trade just to make sure the Yankees don't get first dibs if he's non-tendered, and becomes a free agent. Then maybe Hendry should use the Rule 5 guys for something useful before we lose them.
  10. This goes on to suggest the Dodgers wouldn't want much in return for Bradley, especially if they might non-tender him. The Cubs should be all over him. I like Bradley, and think Dusty can handle him. But we have to think like the Cubs: given a choice, you figure the Cubs would rather sign Kenny Lofton as a free agent than trade players/prospects for Milton Bradley. Playing it safe will only mean we'll have to count on career years to win a title. Hendry needs to think bigger than Kenny Lofton.
  11. Can TO & Ron Artest play OF? Sign them too, Jim! Baker's one remaining "strength" is supposedly the ability to keep a clubhouse together and keep guys like Bradley under control. If the player cost is Mitre or something like that, it's worth taking the chance. I'm starting to think that Bakers "strength" is due to over playing veterans thus keeping the harmony. That very well might be the case.

  13. Hendry needs to be all over this if it's true. Offer them a guy who's out of options for him, if they don't expect much.
  14. Change Pie to another prospect. IMO, the only three position prospects with any chance of playing for the Cubs in the next two years are Pie, Murton, and Cedeno [edit] - so the Cubs should keep all 3 IMO[/edit]. Do the Cubs have any 3B prospects worth their salt? Ramirez isn't going anywhere outside of Chicago and the Phillies may be looking for a 3B that might be MLB ready in the next couple years. Scott Moore, but he's not a top prospect. He should be used as trade bait this winter, though
  15. D'oh! Let me just...fix..that....there. My fault!
  16. I just thought we could have a formal thread on this. Anyone heard any rumblings or news out of CA?
  17. You think the Cubs can make those two deals and not have Walker be part of them? Whoa, board broke. I think you could, but it depends on how many of the better P prospects that you're willing to part with.
  18. Giving up Pie for Abreu, who's leaving his prime, wouldn't be sound. I'd try some other avenue short of giving him up.
  19. Mench would make a nice backup OF, I think. Aquiring him would also ive us some leverage in other trade/FA talks for a better OF, so it makes a little sense to go after him.
  20. Compare him to Austin Kearns. What would we have to pay to get Kearns? I'd say Walker + Mitre would be fair. Also, it cures JH the temptation of using Walker to get Soriano.
  21. I would give Walker and their choice of a potential Rule 5 pitcher.
  22. Alou is older and had a shattered leg at one point in his life. Guys are 2B for a reason, and it's just not that simple to switch to the OF. Walker's range and glove are suspect at 2B; I can't even fathom how much his defense would cost us. Singles would be doubles, and he would likely not get to many balls that other OF's would normally get to. Also, the Cubs have a really promising LF that makes the league minimum that hit well over .300 in 150 major league AB's. I think he'd be the best LF option. :D Plus Twalk showed us his noodle arm at 2B. How many outfield assists would he have? We might have to use the double cut-off man from the Tom Emanski commercials. You mean the Johnny Damon "I once had a guy tag and score from second base on my arm" cutoff man plan? :D Hell, let's get Damon for CF, and Walker for RF! They could have contests on who could reach the infield on a fly! We could even trade for Pierre, and have to worst armed OF in history. We'd almost have to play with the softball 4th OF just to be a roving cutoff man, and our pitchers would have PC's in the 160's just to avoid guys making contact with the ball.
