  1. I'd do it for Bobby Abreu and Brett Meyers. That would be a disaster of massive proportions for this team.
  2. Yep. Let's have Hendry evaluate these guys correctly and make these types of deals. Have we traded a prospect at his highest value? The only one that I can think of that's even close would be Hee Seop.
  3. That would be a terrible trade. It makes you pitching markedly worse. No way I'd do that.
  4. Any update on Heinrich?
  5. I wouldn't trade him for prospects. I would trade him for ARod, or as part of a series of moves that improved the OF and helped us stay decent at 1B.
  6. What worries me is Hendry wants to overpay average to below average players. Furcal, Preston Wilson, Encarnacion, Jacque Jones, Pierre, Rusch... Where did you see that Hendry wants to overpay for Preston Wilson, Encarnacion or Jacque Jones?? Also, why do you think that Rusch is not worth $3M a year? Hendry has a very bad habit of overpaying fringe talent. Neifi, Macias and to a lesser extend Blanco and Burnitz are excellent examples of this. He's pound wise, penny foolish. In regards to Rusch, the issue is that we have multiple internal options for the role Rusch will pay, and all of them are much, much cheaper. Plus, if Rusch isn't starting he's absolutely terrible.
  7. So is he suspended for the first 10 games of next year?
  8. because we don't have the prospects or ML impact talent ina surplus to trade for Abreu.
  9. And people seem perfectly willing to add JD Drew as well. I don't get it either. Yeah, that one I don't get...
  10. Lugo's option was picked up by TB for 06' Doesn't mean he can't be traded by TB this offseason. I still think there's a good chance he'll be traded. Who does TB have to play SS if they trade Lugo? Isn't BJ Upton a SS?
  11. So you are thinking it is a coincedence that the only two "moneyballers" besides Bean were let go/walked away? I'm not saying it's not but I find it interesting. The Gary Hughes' of the world hate the stat heads. I won't get many on this board to agree with me, but Gary Hughes doesn't "hate" the "stat heads." He's one of the more open-minded guys I've been around, and believe it or not, he relies on stats. He just happens to value the opinions of scouts. I think he has a pretty impressive record of procuring talent in places like Montreal and Florida. Just think of the teams Montreal could have had if they had money. I've talked to Gary on numerous occasions and find him very enlightened on a lot of trends in baseball. My belief is that there is plenty of room in this game for input from all sides. Theo Epstein, another talented guy, isn't just a "Moneyball" disciple. He relies on scouts, too. He'll be a tremendous addition to his next organization. Too bad for him and the Red Sox he lost a power struggle in Boston. I think a lot of opinions of Hughes stem from that round table he was a part of last winter where it seemed like he was anti-stat. Also, if he does value stats, they might just be the more traditional BA/HR/RBI stats judging by the Cubs' moves the past 18 months. You definetly have better insight than I, so I'll take your word on it, and hope we see more of a focus on OBP and such this winter.
  12. I only want him back in a utility role, and at about $3m. Counting on him on a full time basis is asking for dissapointment.
  13. That might be a good question to pose to Bruce Miles. Maybe it's time to fire up the Bruce Signal Where's commisoner Gordon? Would that be Tim or 1908?
  14. Hmmmm I know Kent's up there in years, but I prefer him over the ticking timebomb (Bradley). Also, I'd hate to have perennial DLer's as my 3 & 5 hitters. Not a bad idea tho. . The difference is that the upgrade from what we have in CF to Bradley would be much greater than the upgrade from Walker to Kent. Based on that alone, it would be better to get Bradley than Kent. And just as people want to criticize Walker's defense, Kent is just as poor defensively. Kent might be worse.
  15. I think locking up nefi for the next 7 years should be their first priority. god help us all, then, if that happens
  16. That might be a good question to pose to Bruce Miles. Maybe it's time to fire up the Bruce Signal
  17. Trading Aramis for that bunch would be a colossal mistake. There's no way Aramis is as much or more injury prone than Drew. Second of all, Aramis is producing at a higher level than Drew or Bradley. If you want Bradley, you can probably get him without having to give up your best offensive player. Plus, with Aramis working on flexibility this offseason, there's a good chance you won't see any of the hamstring issues this coming season. Next, Nomar at 3b would be a disaster. Counting on Nomar and Drew is just begging for a combined 120 games on the DL and another losing season. Also, Hendry would not trade for Choi, as he probably sees no need for an actual backup 1B since Lee plays nearly every game, and has Sing in the minors in case of injury.
  18. Why would a gossip columnist get the scoop on this before the beat guys?
  19. In sports, though, I think winning breeds good chemistry. Yes and no, IMO. It can also foster ego and arrogance in individuals. Also, if you have a few guys who can't stand each other, winning will not change that. But at least you're winning. :P
  20. In sports, though, I think winning breeds good chemistry.
  21. I see a .280/.340/.400 line. I don't think his year was a fluke. He had a sufficent number of AB's, and his batting eye should prevent hm from going into prolonged slumps
  22. Pure heresy! I was lukewarm when Kasper was hired, but he's proven that he is an excellent play-by-play guy. As he grows into the job, I think all in all, we will be very pleased with this hire. He was their 4th choice, not a ringing endorsement for the Cubs-probably one of the Top 3 broadcast jobs in the country. He's too vanilla for my tastes. I much prefer a play-by-play man who knows what they are talking about than someone with a sensationalist voice. Find me another PBP guy who has even heard of DIPS, never mind mention it on the air, then we can talk about Kasper not being the best in the biz. Harry is a HOF announcer. He knew the game better than Len, Bob, Ron, Pat, etc.. He loved the game. Do not think for a moment that he didn't. Harry was a HOF announcer, but his was a different strength than Kaspar's. You can't really compare the two. They are from different eras. Personally, I find Kaspar's work pretty refreshing. I like the way he uses stats to support observations and highlight in game points. That doesn't mean Harry wasn't great. It's just different is all.
  23. I don't know that Griffey would waive his NTC to come here.
  24. I agree - I've always thought he was one of the most overrated minds in baseball. My impression is that he's very good at dissecting in game situations, but terrible when it comes to evaluating players and teams as a whole. Yeah, he doesn't do a good job adaping to new methods of evaluating the players. He's far too married to old school methodology. Those are fair points. His in-game instinct are astounding at times. His talent evaluation may be less so. I just realized all of those describe Joe Morgan too. Joe Morgan. He's like afraid of fire and electricity.
