  1. I have to believe that no matter what Hendry says, or whether or not Corey plays Winter Ball, that Corey gets auctioned of for cents on the dollar this winter. My caveat is that it's possible that Corey is a part of a larger package deal.
  2. Remember being optimistic about Brownlie, Ryu, Guzman, Pinto and Sisco? We'll be lucky if one of them gets to our big league club.
  3. Walker, Hill and Dopirak for Barry Zito
  4. He's working on it, and it's supposed to be set up by tomorrow.
  5. 150 ML AB's, +.300 BA, high OBP, $300k/year. That's a big part of the reason :D
  6. Sweet, Neifi's going to get 600 ABs this year! We might keep Hairston, that brings it down to about 400 AB's. :P
  7. Cameron might not be ready for ST. He's still getting vertigo.
  8. That's the day that teams lose their exclusive window to negotiate and FA begins. I thought the window to negotiate ended tonight? Everything I've read says Friday. Do you have a link?
  9. Cubs trade Patterson and 1 of (Mitre, Welley, Leicester, Brownlie, Ryu) for Kevin Mench TEX
  10. Cubs trade Williams, Pie and Novoa for Bobby Abreu PHI (DKWG)
  11. If they are going to move Ronny, this would be the offseason to do it. His value is as high as it'll get.
  12. Cubs trade Walker, get David Riske from CLE. Cubs trade Walker and Pinto, get Coco Crisp from CLE Cubs trade Williams, Patterson and Ryu to NYY for Sheffield
  13. That's the day that teams lose their exclusive window to negotiate and FA begins.
  14. I doubt there will be until Friday.
  15. I was trying to catalog all of the trade ideas everyone's had here into one threa, mostly because it'd be fun to see which ones (if any) turn out to be right. So feel free to add to this list. If I can remember the poster who came up with it, I'll list it. Here goes: Cubs recieve: Luis Castillo, Derek Lowe and Milton Bradley (HoopsCubs) Fish recieve: Nolasco, Walker and OF prospect from Cubs Dodgers recieve Lowell, $$ and P prospect Cubs trade Hill and Patterson, get Juan Pierre (Aramis Fan) Cubs trade Walker and Hill, get Soriano (various) Cubs trade Z, get Abreu and 4th starter (CuseCubFan) Cubs trade Hill, Williams and a P prospect, get Abreu. (various) Cubs trade Walker, get JC Romero (DKWG) Cubs trade Walker, get Betancourt (various) Cubs trade Patterson and Walker, get Soriano (various) Cubs trade Pie, Hill, and Williams, get Manny Ramirez (various) Cubs trade Pinto, Ryu, Patterson and Mitre for Abreu and Michaels. 16. I thought it was just Hoops speculating. I don't think it's an actual sourced rumbling.
  17. Seconded. There's absolutely no player in baseball I would trade Z for apart from maybe Pujols and we all know the Cards wouldn't make that deal. Cabrera is just about the only player I'd accept back for Z in a trade. You wouldn't take Castillo too? :D I take it no one would accept 2 very good players for Z then. What if the Mets ( sign Furcal) then trade Reyes and Cameron to the Cubs for Z and Hendry thinks that would be the answer for the leadoff situation. I'm not suggesting this but I could see it happening. It closes 2 holes while opening a huge hole. There's no guarantee that Cameron will come back okay from his head injury. Last reports had him still suffering random vertigo. Also, Z is worth FAR more than Reyes and Cameron. We get hosed in that deal. I don't see the logic in taking away from your one true strength to sort of plug a weakness. You aren't better off than when you started, so why not just trade from prospects or pay money via FA?
  18. 3 players come to mind: Jason Bay, Miguel Cabrera and Adam Dunn. I don't think PGH or FLA would trade Bay or Cabrera, but I believe CIN would trade Dunn for Zambrano. Given the choice between impact hitters of a similar age, or Z, I'd keep Z. Dominant pitching is just too hard to come by. So you wouldn't trade Z for Dunn and Burnett? Dunn and Santana, maybe. Burnett is a few years older, and has already had 1 arm injury. And, as we all know, past injury to pitchers is the best indicator of future injury risk. Z, other than minor, correctable conditioning issues, has been a workhorse, which is something we have to have with Dusty. So, durability would prevent me from wanting Burnett over Z, even if Burnett came with Dunn. I'd rather give up Pie or any other top prospect for an impact hitter than bail on a proven commodity like Z.
  19. 3 players come to mind: Jason Bay, Miguel Cabrera and Adam Dunn. I don't think PGH or FLA would trade Bay or Cabrera, but I believe CIN would trade Dunn for Zambrano. Given the choice between impact hitters of a similar age, or Z, I'd keep Z. Dominant pitching is just too hard to come by.
  20. Huff is not the answer to any of our problems. He would have been a nice addition to last year's OF due to it's enormous sucktitude, but we can do better than him this offseason.
  21. Did Hendry ever say he wanted to stockpile good pitching? :D Do the Phillies have a 4th or 5th starter they can move to the Cubs? I see a Z and Hill for Abreu and that 4th or 5th guy. I just cannot see us dealing our most dominant, healthiest pitcher for Abreu. It's not like Z is super expensive.
  22. None. Why would a player destined to be a Philadelphia Philly have any say-so in a Cubs matter? Hoops, do you really think that's realistic?
  23. Cuse, this isn't directed at you, but your comment inspired it. Why is it that the Cards hiding their cards is a savvy strategy, but when Hendry does not flat out announce he's going after our desired acquisitions he's an idiot without a plan? Hendry holding back on announcing who he signs isn't the root of the criticism. It's who he actually signs and ends up targeting that is.
  24. I think that article implies that, given the holes in the Cubs' OF, it makes sense for us to bid on the best corner OF available. However, given Bruce's comments on how Hendry thinks Giles will be overpriced, I doubt we're going to last long in any bidding war. I don't think hendry goes over 3/$27m.
