  1. Unbelievable!!!!!
  2. Nolan has coached this game really well thus far.
  3. Ugh. The Defense has been on the field way too long.
  4. Maybe Lovie will let Orton throw a play action pass in the red zone.
  5. Lovie is showing some Dusty-esque in game decisions, especially when challenging plays. And Wade needs to hold on to the ball. The Bears are in serious danger of losing this game. They look awful.
  6. that knee is wrecked.
  7. I think it's more due to bunting and being able to move the runners over. Don't forget hustle. You gotta have hustle. Exactly. It's because ARam doesn't run ground balls out.
  8. If you heard it, I'd be excited. If not, then I'm going to be real skeptical. I don't really trust other forums for baseball insights.
  9. We'd have to give him an extension just to shut him up.
  10. You need a centerfielder who can cover a lot of ground. The Cubs really need to be strong defensively up the middle. IMO Mench would be a solid RF. He is only turning 28 so he is just hitting his prime. I think you can expect him to have a pretty solid year this year, no matter where he plays. I think the advantage of trading for Mench is that it gives us a good fallback plan in case we can't sign Giles, and can't swing a trade. It also gives us a touch of leverage, and if we do sign/trade for a different RF, he's a good 4th OF candidate. It makes sense on a lot of levels to be proactive about RF and deal for him.
  11. We may not have the prospects to pull off a number of trade, but we have available cash. We can help pay on contracts no one wants to facilitate trades. Are you thinking Thome?
  12. Patterson and Nolasco for Mench. Let's get it done! I'd try and use two bulk guys in place of Nolasco, but if that were the price, I'd pull the trigger.
  13. WHere in the heck would you play Thome? He can only play 1st or are you planning on dumping the younger and better Lee after the spectacular year he just had? I think hes saying that Minnesota would acquire Thome, and we would set ourselves up to maybe take on Bobby Abreu ,or Jason Michaels, and a reliever from Minnesota in a deal like that. Exactly. Minnesota had been rumored to be looking at Thome for a DH. Obviously they'd like to have a signifigant portion of his salary paid by Philadelphia. I can see some sort of deal where Hunter and Romero are dealth from Minnesota, Philly deals Thome and Burrell or Michaels, and we give up some pitching and maybe Patterson, Walker.
  14. But does Hendry see the need to make more of a splashy move? I can see the scout in Hendry thinking that Furcal has more upside, or whatever, than Lugo.
  15. I thought I heard that they either traded for or are contemplating bringing back their old 3b from Toronto. Koskie Could we get ourselves in the middle of a Philly-Minnesota trade for Thome?
  16. I think your last point is a great one. Aramis got 4/$42m. Sure, he can (and might) opt to renegotiate after 2006, but the point is, he's a potential MVP caliber player. Furcal is a nice player, but not worth nearly that much. I still think 4/32 is more likely for Furcal.
  17. I just don't see us having the prospect ammo to fill our needs via trades. I can see one big trade, and maybe 1 or 2 minor ones, but I think we make one big FA signing.
  18. That was a really long time ago. I'm sure a nice steak dinner would solve any lingering issues.
  19. Wal-Mart loss is Burger King's gain. What good does it do you to insult people? Do you think it furthers your argument? Like I said earlier, we're not going to change your mind and you are certainly not going to convince anyone here with rhetoric and conventional wisdom. So let's just drop it.
  20. I think you're seriously overrating the effect that position in the lineup has on production in this case. No, he might have a point. Dunn's greatest asset is his OBP/plate discipline.. He's not like other players where there's a relatively decent balance between their stats. Dunn isn't so much a run producer as a run creator. I'd bat him before Lee and Ramirez, because you have a 40% chance of having Dunn on in front of guys who have a 30-35% chance of driving him in, vs having Dunn in between them or behind them.
  21. Mike Cameron is still suffering severe vertigo. I have huge doubts about his ability to be ready in time for 2006.
  22. Just as long as we get one of them; then the other isn't really that important.
  23. It depends. If Pierre just costs Patterson and a P like Mitre, then I'd not be opposed to Pierre, because it keeps Neifi out of the leadoff spot, and Pierre is an upgrade, albeit overrated. I don't like Lofton. I don't like sticking Patterson back in there, because, as much as I want Corey to succeed, I don't think it will even happen here. Pie isn't ready; I don't want him near Wrigley until September. I don't know of any other CF options, other than Michaels from Philly. So, being no Pierre fan, I'll go with a trade for Pierre. I agree with pretty much everything you said. Don't like Lofton, Pie shouldn't be rushed and I don't see any other good realistic options for us in CF, so I'd say a trade for Pierre is the way we should go as well. One caveat: If Florida insists on anything more than Mitre and Corey + one Rule 5 arm, I tell them to take a hike and focus on Michaels, or maybe Castillo and really, really try and land Furcal, and then stick Corey 8th and hope he doesn't kill you. Or just go with Hairston/Greenberg in CF and hope Pie shows you enough to be up in June, or maybe a trade possibility opens up. In a very big way, CF is tied to the middle IF.
