  1. Five Guys is good. But a cheeseburger, small fries and a drink is $10 after tax. In-n-Out is great. It makes me a sad panda that they refuse to expand outside of California, Nevada and Arizona.
  2. We had a good time yesterday's game but were stuck behind some southern Illinois redneck Cubs fans who were making complete a**es of themselves. Shirts off, cursing, drinking, yelling at women and arguing with Cardinals fans. It was really embarrassing. You'd think they were Sox fans by the way they acted. Had a good time in St. Louis except for the constant 30mph winds all weekend. The zoo was nice and I got a lot of great pictures at the Botanical Garden. Plus my good mood was helped by a nice run at the casino and the craps table. It paid for the weekend. \:D/

  4. Thanks: I'll print that out for if/when I loose 720 on the way down.
  5. I used to be able to pick up WGN all the way to the edge of St Louis. I know in the winter on a clear night you can, but my car's AM antenna isn't that good and the somewhat cloudy and humid weather won't help.
  6. I'll be driving down to St. Louis tonight. I've got XM but refuse to listen to the 'Cards broadcast team. What Cubs stations can I get along I-55?
  7. I thought the fences were the same at the new park? Isn't the only difference was the slight shrinkage of the foul territory behind home plate?
  8. Is that a euphemism? I think I could "check into the hotel" in less than five minutes if I had too. Game starts at 3pm but the hotel check-in time is 4pm so I hope they'll let me check in early. Most of the time it's not a problem, but I got burned in Indianapolis a couple of years ago before a Bears game where the hotel wouldn't let us check in an hour or two early. While we were at the football game someone broke into our car. Plus I know how the girlfriend operates and she'll want to change clothes and freshen up. ](*,)
  9. A cool thing is that they have hardly any ushers and the ushers that are there are "to help". Me and a buddy used to go at game time, buy 7 dollar tickets and then walk down to field level. For having small crowds, the fans are really into it. Much louder than a lot of places that draw 5-10k more people. Somewhat OT: has anyone ever had the unfortunate experience of going to a game at Dodger Stadium? Their ushers are complete jerks. You have to enter through an assigned gate and there's very little walking around. Someone is always stopping you and redirecting you towards your seat. And don't even think about trying to move down even if it's the 8th inning and the place has emptied out. Chavez Ravine is host to fight nights in the stands on a regular basis. Security has to be especially aware here. But the level to which they take it at Dodger Stadium is way overboard. You'd think it was Yankee Stadium in 1977 with how pr*ckish they are. It's one thing if I was shirtless "likes-to-fight guy" stumbling around with two beers in my hand. But cut me some slack if I'm obviously the out of town tourist who's just wanting to check the place out 90 minutes before gametime. The phrase "This is why we can't have nice things" comes to mind.
  10. If he stepped back into the batter's box after being called out on strikes, I think people would have whined even more than they did. This "incident" took seconds. You know what I mean. Bradley has a history of over-reacting and not maintaining control of his emotions like a normal adult. (Yes, I know, professional baseball players are not normal people.) Or are we just going to accept this as "Milton Bradley being Milton Bradley"?
  11. Could you imagine how long and boring games would be if everyone acted like Bradley? Be a man, step out of the box, adjust something and mutter back to the ump about the cruddy call. Then step back in and make a hit. Don't spaz out like a 6 year old who didn't get their pony for Christmas.
  12. 1) They charge obnoxious ballpark prices for their drinks. 2) They're filled with obnoxious Cardinals fans. A fair amount of people will avoid those places. When I was posted to St. Louis last year most of the locals I worked with hated the bars I listed. There's a good cajun place by the ballpark called Broadway Oyster Bar that has good food. The Jack Patricks bar has good burgers. Along Washington Ave are some good restaurants and bars. There's a few places along there and they've got shuttles that run to Busch. There's an authentic Irish bar called Dubliner that I ate at a lot when stuck down there. I also liked the food at Side Bar. Most other stuff downtown St. Louis is either fast food or fine dining. Outside of downtown I can also recommend some places if you want them.

  14. You can try in get the first pitch tickets Saturday morning. They start selling the tickets at 9 AM the day of the game. It costs $11 for a voucher for 2 tickets. You have no idea where your tickets will be until you enter the stadium. You'll probably want to get in line a couple of hours early, and you'll probably end up with SRO. At least you'll be in the stadium though. I'll be at the game Friday for sure, and might stop by Saturday and Sunday after the start of the games and see if I can scalp some cheap tickets. Anywhere you'd recommend to watch the game at? Ill be the only Cubs fan amongst 4 other damn Cards fans. Looks like the weather is going to be perfect down there this weekend. Where are you going to be? By the stadium or will you be more mobile? I believe our hotel is within walking distance of the stadium. Its on St Charles St. Would prefer to stay on foot, or cab(or any other public trans) . My group of guys going with me range from 29-33 in age if that helps. There's a place called Jack Patricks about 2 blocks from the hotel. Nothing fancy and their drink prices are good. There's a fancy upscale sports bar on the Landing called Skybox. Kind of pricey but they've got a crapload of HDTVs. It's the other direction from the stadium though. Avoid: J. Bucks, Mike Shannon's, Al Hrabosky's and Paddy O's. If you're looking close to the stadium try Kilroy's.

  16. We're driving down to Springfield Friday night after work and staying with family. Then the plan is to leave early enough on Saturday morning to hit the Missouri Botanical Garden and then the zoo before the game. The St. Louis Zoo has five Amur (Bengal) Tiger cubs that the girlfriend wants to see. Supposedly they're make-you-puke cute. :glare: Then I guess we're going to try that deep dish pizza place in the Delmar Loop that President Obama likes. http://www.restaurantpi.com/index2.html Then hopefully we'll have enough time to check into the hotel before the game. We're staying at the Hotel Lumiere. http://www.lumiereplace.com/hotel.aspx
  17. Anyone heading down to St. Louis for this weekend's Cub series? Is there any chance ESPN will grab the Sunday game currently scheduled for 1:15?
  18. I've got the game DVR'ed at home: any good reason to watch?
  19. Ha Ha! But I was someplace last week and they played it 4 times in a row. It got a little tiring. Drunk bartenders should not be allowed to touch the iPod.
  20. What is so embarrassing about that? It's a really fun atmosphere and people enjoying themselves? White people should be required to get a license to dance. 90% of the time it's a horrific thing to see.

  22. I'm still trying to figure out where to go to watch the game. None of my friends can agree which bar to watch it at. I just want to be 100% sure: CSN has the game, right? Versus is only for the rest of the US.
  23. I've never heard racist stuff at Wrigley directed towards players: but we all know things were said to Jim Edmonds while he played with the Cardinals. Plus I'm white and my girlfriend is black and some things have been said to us at Wrigley. But it's also happened at Soldier Field, on the EL and in the line at McDonalds.
  24. Top of my list. He'd bitch and moan about a pitch from a Braves player being called a ball even if it was a neck high and a foot outside.
