  1. I respectfully disagree. I don't see how playing the game does anything to make you more likely to be a better manager. It gives you the respect of the players, which is more than any ability to pull together a lineup. It's the same as any job: if you don't have respect for your boss, would you do a good job? The way the baseball world works you have to put in your time in the minors, in the front office, etc. for the major league level. It's an old-school mentality that wouldn't readily accept a manager who has no playing experience. Absolutely
  2. Rosenthal is bad, this article not withstanding. Yeah, I was actually surprised it was worth reading. Same here. He usually drives me into wanting more Woody Paige. Well, maybe he's not quite that bad.
  3. Oh for crying out loud, google the word.
  4. Children 4-9 are $25, 10+ and adults are $29. $4 to park. It's no Cedar Point, but the kids should have a good time there. You could kill a full day there, and yes, they do sell beer.
  5. He was wearing 25 with Texas, so he will definitely be switching. And he wore 23 before. That ain't happenin either. ESPN has 40 listed.
  6. Maybe in Bizarro World.
  7. To quote my good friend, Lee Corso, "not so fast my friend". They're only 1 game behind us right now.
  8. You may be right. I, for one, was a supporter of Paris Bennett. Yep.
  9. Thank you, Mr. Rosenthal.
  10. Here's a pretty good description... the Rockets were pretty clutch in '94 and '95. Ha, ha. I was joking about the Rockets being good in the mid-90's. That was over 10 years ago, and the city takes it nickname from it? Its never a good idea to give yourself a nickname. What does that make Chicago, with the Bulls winning 6 titles in 8 years? And Jordan's obsession with playing baseball is the only reason why the Rocket's have those two championships. Word to your mother.
  11. baker's just a fool. Big time. Or maybe Dusty knows that 2nd is the only spot where Neifi has any success.... Perez AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS batting 2nd 17 2 7 1 0 0 8 2 0 1 0.412 0.389 0.471 0.859 Naaaahhhh !!! Sweet! His OBP is lower than his BA in the 2 spot. Not many can pull that off.
  12. Ozzie has never been smart. His managerial days are no exception.
  13. I didn't know one way or another, but I definately knew that he has had to produce a birth certificate to travel back and forth. WELL THEN WHERE IS IT? EVERYONE ELSE'S BIRTH CERTIFICATE IS EASILY AVAILABLE AND ACCESSABLE, WHY DON'T YOU PRODUCE ALBERT'S? The truth is that Albert is really a robot therefore there is no birth certificate. Then what's his serial number???
  14. You could certainly cut some fat by replacing Blanco with Soto (1.2M), just about anyone for Pierre but let's say Michaels (4.25M), and someone like Buck Coats or Restovich to take Conine's spot (1.4M). That'll get you down to around 97.9M. Insert Marshall for Millwood, and you're close to 90. Drop Seanez for Wuertz, and you have enough money to put Tejada at SS and you're back in that 95 range. Nitpicking, but it's Derrek, not Derrick.
  15. He successfully pulled off the hit-and-run with the bases loaded. TWICE! Of course, Grace was at bat both times.
  16. Do you ask the dentist for root canal, too ? 04/03 - 05/31 AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS Perez 97 9 20 3 1 0 25 11 3 8 0.206 0.228 0.258 0.485 It just amazes me that 1) Dayn thinks it's possible that Ronny's line would get him benched for the likes of that and 2) that Dusty would actually do it.
  17. They're paying all but $375,000 of his salary. I don't think this is accurate. If it was they'd be saving money overall, after giving up Hairston's ~$1.5 remaining. I thought they were taking on an additional $375k after all was said and done, which means they've got to be paying Nevin about $1.875m and Texas is paying about $4.9m of the remaining, more or less. That figure came from the Trib.
  18. They're paying all but $375,000 of his salary.
  19. Um, Dayn, what's Neifi's line? Why can't anyone print that?
  20. Really? Even thought he's a Boras client and the Pirates are cheapskates? Those would be fun negotiations to watch, given that Hochevar has almost zero leverage. I'll keep picking him until he's off the board. I really think he'll go #3.
  21. Our glass is the wrong damn size. /realistic
