    By the end of the offseason, Jones could definitely have some value considering his contract in this market, and he had a career year too. Especially if some team gets shut out from making offensive upgrades. Unfortunately, the one GM who is just ga-ga for overvaluing player's break out 06 seasons is the one and only Jim Hendry. Bill Stoneman says hi. I don't think anyone will top the GMJ signing. Sabean & Juan Pierre You mean Colletti and Pierre. Ah yes, I was stuck in the Giants offering that ridiculous contract mode.

    Typically speaking, Tejada has a higher BA than Izturis has OBP. Tejada's OBP is higher than Izturis Slug%... Tejada's Slug% is around 500... or about 100 to 150 points less than Izturis's expected OPS. Even if you want to make the argument he's not worth the cost... fine. If you want to make the argument he's not an elite offense force... fine. But he's such an upgrade over Izturis it's almost magical. What he said.

    How on god's green earth are they on the ballot but Will Clark isn't?? He was 4 times the player both of those guys were. Will didn't get enough votes last year to stay on the ballot. The other 2 are making their 1st appearance.

    I want Pie in CF IF an upgrade at SS is brought in. Or swinging a deal for Manny in which we keep Murton and Pie. Then move Soriano to 2B, and I wouldn't care if Larry Bowa was at SS.

    Pie has made strides. I think Patterson is much closer to his ceiling than Pie is right now - the question is will Pie get to his ceiling or not? I am not convinced Patterson is a better player right now but I think he is probably slightly less likely to collapse in the majors than Pie. As far as I know I think both are potential leadoff hitters. Does this mean in a couple of years Soriano gets moved to 5 spot? Pie definitely isn't a leadoff hitter. Unlike that Alfonso Soriano guy. I see you ditched the last name. Stalkers?

    But why is he in the big leagues still? The reason is because he plays great defense, calls a game pretty well, handles a pitching staff well, great tutor to the young players, and he throws out base runners better than most catchers in the league. His defense is why he is still in the big leagues. he drives in runs with his shinguards. And doesn't wear a cup.

    I predict the Cubs will suck less than 2006, but they'll suck plenty when compared to the payroll. I'd almost be happy if they hit 500 again.

    This trade is not happening. There is not Cubs source who would ever, ever e-mail or utter such a thing. Believe what you will. Curses! I would have liked that deal, especially if Clement were thrown in. Isn't Clement out for most of, if not all, 2007? My guess is that we've already seen the last of him.
