  1. I would certainly hope nobody is entertaining that idea. C Lee money = JD Drew money. That is a no-brainer if there ever was such a thing.
  2. OPS isn't a "random" stat. And it only takes about 15 seconds to look it up at any number of sites. By not using OPS you openly admit to not using the stat that best determines offensive production in a cursory manner. So, how do you judge a good player? Seeing the players play which Ive seen Soriano and Drew as well. Oh sorry Ive rarely seen Drew play cause hes been hurt about three quarters of his career Soriano hasn't been good when I've seen him because he's made an out about three quarters of his career. Your post is moronic.
  3. exactly right. theyre trying to find a random detail that makes soriano better 1 run. When in fact there's the differences in the contracts and the added flexibility lugo would have given us compared to soriano. oh wait i cant assume that lugos contract will be less than sorianos according to jjgman21. Silly me. I give you permission. Now incorporate Izturis's salary sitting on the bench and carry on. Not with Cleveland(Westbrook, Lee) and Boston(outfielders, Crisp, Pena? Manny?) looking for a defensive SS. Do you really think Cleveland would entertain the idea of trading Cliff Lee? His name's already been tossed around quite a bit over the past week or two (outside of here as well).
  4. Crap, I voted Jones then realized the question was asking what we should do. We should still make a play for Drew.
  5. You should meet my friend, Mr. Facts. Hmmm, Mr. Facts shows that out of 8 seasons for Drew, 4 of them were seriously hampered due to injury and 2 others were less than 140 games. That's what is known in the real universe as a player with injury problems. Mr. Facts also shows that Drew is good and is not overrated, which is what I was responding to.
  6. That makes no damn sense whatsoever.
  7. Nobody here seems to know either. (sorry if I've missed it)
  8. You should meet my friend, Mr. Facts.
  9. Technically, and arguably, we got 2 of the top 3.
  10. That's what you get for not listening to me.
  11. Why not develop Pie as a corner guy? Why not shift Soriano when Pie is ready?
  12. Watch football for a while, and I miss all this? I don't like this deal much.
  13. the only reason i did was that soriano costs only money while manny will cost money and players in a trade. and this: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/inside_game/magazine/baseball/mlb/news/2001/06/05/bb/soriano_sm-01.jpg To which I counter with this: http://www.baseball-reference.com/r/ramirma02.shtml And this: http://www.baseball-reference.com/s/soriaal01.shtml Game. Set. Match.
  14. How anyone can pick Soriano over Manny is beyond me.
  15. I'd take him if he was our only option over Izturis. I want nothing to do with him in CF. I have a feeling he's going to be extremely overpaid.
  16. I guess I have a different view from knowing some of the players personally. Tate's ego has reached new levels over the past year or so. He often tries playing the good samaritan role by playing nice to the media, but he is extremely critical and quick to point fingers behind closed doors. He had a world of talent, but he failed to harness that talent. Now, in his defense, I will also say that a lot of it was spoon fed to him by people within the program. His sometimes prima donna actions are the direct result of being put on a pedestal and given the "face of Iowa football" moniker a little too early. He had a lot of successes at an early age, and it definitely took its toll on him.
  17. That's exactly why it's useful. I'm not arguing either side, I just find it to be a little redundant most of the time. A BABIP out of line with career norms often coincides with other statistics that are also similarly out of line. If you find that helpful, so be it.
  18. I take exception to that. Moving past my anger... I have 2 of each, but I do prefer my dogs a little bit.
  19. My parents used to have a cocker spaniel named Marley as well. Did you ever stop to consider that CubinNY is your dad?
  20. Tombstone? Jack's?
  21. No, he's probably saying "that's all?"
  22. Can't wait for the Drew Tate experiment to end. Christensen please. Also, this year I'm asking Santa to get Iowa a defense. Personally I dont see how anyone could want to see Tate go. It's been rough at times this year, but Christensen hasn't proved a thing - Tate has. and Christensen just got picked as I typed this. What Iowa really needs are recievers who can catch the ball not named Douglas. When your backup QB is now a starting WR at the end of the season, you know it's bad. Tate is statistically worse as a 3rd year starter than he was as a 1st year starter. Sure he has a young receiving core, but Iowa has never been blessed with what I would consider good receivers. Solid at times, maybe, but the problems with this offense fall on Tate just as much as anyone. You're right that Christensen hasn't proven anything yet. Yet being the key word. Tate's ego has stunted any growth that should have been taking place over the past couple of seasons, and it's time for him to go. This season is lost, and Christensen is the key to the team's success over the next 3 years. He needs to be given a chance.
  23. It's not used as a predictor of success as much as it's used to spot fluky seasons. I'm sure this has been mentioned in the thread before now. Rob's the one who brought up future success, not me.
  24. Joey Cora, ChiSox 3B coach Joey would have been a better signing.
