    Westbrook and Lilly please I'd much rather Cotts start than Meche. But give me Westbrook. somehow i think a guy who has pitched a total of 179 innings in 3 years might have a problem as a starter. He's not going to give you 33 starts and 220 innings, but you can convert a reliever to a starter in 1 season. If he's a 6th starter/swingman guy, then you could get 12-15 starts and 100 innings without stretching him too much. i would agree that it's possible but why bother? he will most likely be a 5 inning pitcher at best for a while and with other options like meche, iwaga & lilly who are already used to pitching 180+ innings, i highly doubt that cotts would be that much better as a starter than those other guys to justify taking him out of the bullpen. Having someone capable of putting up 5 solid innings is a much better alternative that what happened in 2006 when a bunch of kids who were not ready for MLB were thrown into the mix. Angel Guzman >>>> Neal Cotts, but I would have rather had Neal Cotts making the starts Angel made last season so he could continue developing. After watching them last season, it's also pretty clear that most of them will not be ready in 2007 either so why not add someone who gives you another starting option?

    Dunno, but I would do Murton for Westbrook straight up, especially if we ink Soriano and Drew as rumored. Only if Westbrook was locked up longterm. Even then, I'm not sure. It's probably fair, but I'm just really bias toward Murton. He's my fav. player. Besides, I don't think the Indians really want/need an outfielder. We really need to trade from our strength, which is bullpen pitching and even young arms. Yeah I am also not a big fan of trading Murton. I understand that you have to trade value for value but if Carlos Lee is gonna get atleast 5/70 then I dont' see how you would trade someone who put up better numbers than him for just an average starter. Especially when this players will only be making like 500k. It just makes no sense to me. Matt Murton .297 .365 .444 13 HR 62 RBI OPS-.809 Carlos Lee .300 .355 .540 37 HR 116RBI OPS-.895 Not sure that I'd call Matt Murton better than Carlos Lee.     I don't have a problem including Dempster in a deal. Would it really be that hard to replace him as closer? We got Dempster off the trash heap and made him a closer. Not all that hard to do something similar again. Certainly if it means acquiring an innings-eating SP----I'd trade him. Wood. Or Howry or Wuertz.

    Florida Gonzalez. 8th inning hero Gonzalez retired this season IIRC. He retired in May, but he recently un-retired. Doubtful as to whether or not he'll sign a big league deal anywhere, let alone a 3 year deal.

    Hoops, get on this- i mean, do you realize how important you are to all of us this time of year- GET ON THE HORN and get some info:)- Seriously though, you are hearing 2 and 30M? i would be open to that deal with an option year tacked on- It does appear that the Cubs are very active in this Drew bidding. I too would much prefer him over Soriano, if forced to choose. I'd offer 3 years and $40 million - $12M, $13M and $14M with a $15M option, which can automatically vest with an appropriate amount of games played in 2009 or a $1M buyout. Sounds good to me. Get it done.

    I think the point is, the Cubs are desperate. And the only thing they have going for them is their cash. Soriano at a huge deal isn't ideal. He's not as good as the true elites that make the big bucks, but the Cubs already missed out on most of those guys. They need some offense. And if you're going to overpay, you might as well overpay for somebody who at least has a chance to put up some great seasons. How about JD Drew Well, I definitely prefer Drew. But I came to the conclusion a long time ago that Hendry's preferences don't often match up with mine. So my only hope is that he actually goes after guys who can help. I'm assuming by Soriano Bruce actually meant JD Drew. Crazy autocorrect or something.

    Agreed. There's no way the Marlins pull a 180 and sell Dontrelle that low. Dontrelle's overratedness will net them a much more handsome package when they decide to sell.
