  1. Not that I'm expecting them to, but if things go well, they could have a bullpen of death by mid-September. Brown, Harvey, Steele, and Palencia to go with whoever they add and probably Assad and Rea to provide some length along with Webb and Rolison. That's a bunch Craig can cook with in the playoffs.
  2. I have to imaging the plan is to get at least a couple innings out of Civale today with the quick hook for Assad.
  3. Javier Houdini strikes again. It's crazy how often he strands guys.
  4. Yeah, I've had the same issue before (and I'm seeing the same thing today) and no idea what the problem is. Laptop doesn't seem to have a solution but usually if I turn my phone off and back on it solves the problem.
  5. Are you mixing up Cabrera (the former Marlins pitcher/current Cub) and Sandy Alcantara (the current Marlins pitcher) and Kevin Alcantara (current Cubs OF)?
  6. Man, as injury prone as Amaya has been, that would be a really ballsy move. And it would almost have to be a 3 team deal wouldn't it? None of the teams mentioned in the article are going to be willing to give up the kind of pitching the Cubs need in the middle of their own pennant race.
  7. Yes and no. They killed a ton of small businesses by building Ballpark Village and it's just a cesspool of corporate bars and restaurants they've tried to dress up as small businesses. But downtown STL has been dying for 20 years and the pandemic really was a death knell because of the number of businesses that closed, sent people to work from home permanently, or moved their offices elsewhere in the metro area. It's no less safe than any other downtown area and people who say otherwise don't spend any time there.
  8. What was he saying? I lived there for 20+ years and a lot of it is frustration with the direction of the team and for me personally, I skipped a ton of games where tickets were cheap because the concessions are so ridiculously priced. It's almost $16 for a 25 oz. Busch Light before tip.
  9. I think the offense will definitely take a step back but the pitching has been so bad this year that going from ranking in the 20s to around 10th isn't such a huge leap to think it's impossible. It certainly hinges on getting someone at the deadline this year that will be around in the future and much better injury luck than they've had this season.
  10. The mini-season they're doing next spring is so strange. Obviously a "let's keep some sort of revenue stream and interest" play so they're not just out of mind for 9 months, but weird none the less.
  11. Sure, but those guys didn't write 1,000 words and post a video about it.
  12. It's dumb conjecture by a guy who writes here and makes absolutely zero sense.
  13. He's a guy I'd be concerned about hitting a wall because of innings. He threw 132 last year but before that hadn't thrown more than 56 ever in his MLB career and was out all of 2024.
  14. I feel like the math on the SP/RP split weighs heavily on who's coming back healthy. If you think you're going to have Brown, Cabrera, and Palencia all good to go for the playoffs, one of each would suffice. If you think you're not getting Palencia back, you probably need 2 RP because you're probably going to rely on Brown to be the versatile fireman like Palencia was in the playoffs last year and you'll need another reliable back end guy to finish games on top of the 6/7th inning guy you were probably getting anyway.
  15. I think some combination of bringing Seiya back and rotating him and Shaw/Conforto in LF is a decent short term solution (obviously pending deadline deals) for next year while you buy some developmental time for the minor league guys until 2028. But I definitely agree with you on him not being a guy who has enough pop to be the every day guy in LF, even before factoring in whether or not he can hit LHP adequately in MLB.
  16. This is an outright dumb idea. You don't trade your best power bat in the middle of a playoff race. Full stop. And they won't get nothing for him because there's about a 99% chance he gets the QO at the end of the season.
  17. I'd be shocked if he took an assignment instead of electing FA.
  18. Yeah, he provided a touch of excess value in 2024 with 2.5 fWAR. It was much less under water going into this year at 4.9 total fWAR but the -1.1 this year completely killed it.
  19. Rojas is probably a 3B long term (and has been playing there primarily lately) so I wouldn't rule him out of an Angels trade even if they manage to pull off that deal with the Red Sox.
  20. Detmers, Miller, and Weaver would likely make the Cubs a really, really tough playoff out, especially if they get anything from Cabrera, Brown, Palencia and Steele down the stretch and into the playoffs.
  21. I think the lack of good players being picked may create a chicken/egg situation with this argument. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I think it's probably a tough thing to prove either way.
  22. I think you have to account for the fact that the Angels are bad at pretty much everything and there's some expectation that the Cubs pitching coaches/development team can squeeze some more out of him, especially when you factor in the additional years of control.
  23. I always find it weird that people write articles that are so poorly constructed when the information you got wrong is out there if you just look for it. It would have been really unfair of Jed or Craig to expect Boyd to go back out to pitch Game 5 on 1 day of rest after he got them 14 outs in the Game 4 win at Wrigley 2 days earlier.
  24. If that's the case, seems odd to definitively declare they don't have the prospect capital to make the necessary moves.
