  1. Yeah, everything about the way he interacts with kids screams the opposite of cocky douche.
  2. Man, if ever there was a day to just send Velasquez out to wear one for 5-6 innings, today is the day. Give Rea an extra day and hope for the best over the weekend with him and Peterson. I suspect they're not doing that because the pen is already so wrecked with usage so I get it. Unfortunate timing on the DH. Would have been nice to do that Tuesday to spread things out a bit.
  3. There have been a ton of Cardinals tickets for $6 or less the last couple seasons that I still didn't take advantage of because the concessions at the park are so outlandish.
  4. Ferguson, Rolison, Webb and Milner are the only guys who are likely truly unavailable. It's not great but it's not as bad as it could be coming off a DH.
  5. Oof, lots of hard contact in the second half of that. That said, the Cubs probably turn 8-10 of those into outs through better fielding, positioning, or range.
  6. I don't know, feels like him missing his spots is really the issue. The one Alvarez hit was 4" above the zone and both Ewing and Vientos hit pitches that were down the middle and not anywhere near where he wanted them.
  7. They do, but I think killing the other team's players is frowned upon and the union would probably file a grievance. 😜
  8. Especially when it's a 1B/DH who's probably blocked long term by much better hitters.
  9. One of the reasons the Cubs liked him more than other teams was because of how his FB plays up in the zone. I don't recall the exact science of it, but the shape of the pitch lends to it being more effective up than down and it also makes his splitter more effective because they start in the same spot but end in very different locations. I don't think you can change his entire strategy of attacking hitters without some real issues in the middle of a season and it's probably not a thing you want to do at all.
  10. I mean, at some point you have to get guys to eat innings and you have finite resources. Even in a case like this, the delta between the pitcher you get vs the dregs you'd otherwise send out there is greater than whatever bat you get vs the probably already solid one you replace.
  11. How many "superstars" are on this list? I'll give you 5 in Ortiz, Bumgarner, Strasburg, Seager, and Freeman and 2 of them are pitchers.
  12. Why did you personally break Ben brown's neck and why do you hate us?
  13. Yeah, if every guy was tearing a labrum or having the same weird injury that's not a UCL, I'd lean that direction but this is just an insane random assortment of injuries with no apparent rhyme or reason. I mean, it's clearly the training staff's fault that Cabrera lost his footing last night and his groin exploded.
  14. There's just no good way to line up the starting pitchers. Assad in game 1, maybe Velasquez in game 2 and they just let him wear it to save as many arms as possible? That leaves you with Rea or Shota for tomorrow and then the other one of those guys, Ben and probably Boyd for the weekend with Milwaukee with a very likely tired pen that already isn't very good.
  15. I think we probably need to pause before we just decide Bregman is a much better defender when you take into account he's been playing there for 10 years and Shaw has been playing the position part time for 2.5. Just based on his athletic ability and baseball aptitude, I have to believe Shaw can approach or surpass Bregman defensively given time and experience. That may not do us any good right now, but I don't think you can just completely ignore that part of the equation.
  16. Two things can be true at the same time.
  17. I assume they're going with Cabrera today because Shota probably used yesterday as a throw day and he'll start one of the games tomorrow?
  18. I'd suspect there are probably some contract negotiations involved since he's taking on a much larger job and probably isn't willing to do it for assistant coach money, even if it is an interim gig.
  19. Who is this in reference to? Also, if you're suggesting some sort of racial bias from Jason here, you're waaaaaaaay off base. He's been around here for a very long time and is a well respected contributor with a track record so I'd be cautious about throwing around accusations of that nature.
  20. I was in a suite at that game and was the only Hawks fan in the box. It was amazing.
  21. Is the cutter actually a cutter? That seems like a big velo difference between that and the FBs.
  22. 🚨🚨🚨both sides alert, I repeat, both sides alert 🚨🚨🚨
