  1. Yes, using his starts just from this year is such a miniscule sample size that it's truly pointless. Catcher ERA is also generally pointless outside of factors like we saw when Ross caught Lester because he was so atrocious at throwing to first that having a guy who could control the running game well was an actual difference maker. Or guys we know are bad at calling a game like Wilson Contreras, but we can be fairly certain that's not a factor here based on how the Cubs select their catchers.
  2. It's team LOB, not cumulative. So if a hitter comes up with 1 out and 2 guys on and makes an out, that's 2 LOB and if the next guy does the same, that's 2 more LOB, so you have 4 LOB with only 2 runners actually being stranded. Happens all the time if you look at box scores.
  3. If you're going to keep saying this, I'd suggest you provide some evidence to support it (there's isn't any).
  4. That's the part that gives me pause. Now, Skubal going 7 IP just about every time out certainly lightens the workload on the pen and pushes one of the useful arms that's been starting back down there, so there's a force multiplier at play by adding him, but I'm still not convinced they have enough pitching to make it worthwhile unless some guys suddenly show up healthy and effective.
  5. I tend to agree with you. Is the bolded the staff as a whole or just starters?
  6. I think this right here is a testament to how well Counsell and the rest of the coaching staff manages the pen. They aren't chasing wins with their best guys when trailing late, the guys they trust are available on the days they need them to hold a lead and they get matchups they like if they have to go to a less trusted arm.
  7. Man, that's not going to fly at all. $245 million is peanuts and I have to imagine there's something in there to allow teams who are way over some time to get under. The Dodgers, Mets and Yankees are all $90+ million over that cap this year. 10 teams are at $245 million or more for 2026.
  8. What are you specifically talking about here? I assume going to 32 teams is the expansion part but TV changes look like what? Shared revenue across the league like the NFL?
  9. The only thing I saw that I thought would be a non-starter for the owners was an increase in super 2s from 22% to 44%. That seems like a huge jump in guys eligible for arbitration after 2 seasons.
  10. Yeah, I think the Cabrera injury accelerated the timeline he was on. I'd bet the plan was to get him another start or two in Iowa to build a little more endurance and refine his stuff a bit but they really didn't have a choice.
  11. Did Counsell forget how to do those things after leading the Brewers to beating the pants off the Cubs for several seasons before he came to Chicago? Your arguments have no basis in reality.
  12. As Bernstein pointed out (and I think that report does as well), you're not looking at just the stadium here, you have to look at the development as a whole. First, what tax dollars are being generated currently by an unimproved site vs. what tax dollars, even at a reduced rate, will be generated by a new stadium. Also, those tax breaks ONLY apply to the stadium itself in most cases, so all the entertainment complex development that happens around the stadium will be taxed at the going rate and generate additional income for the municipality and state.
  13. Man, the culture of immediate gratification makes people really dumb.
  14. The Bulls have never gotten past the play in round with their former front office and finished over .500 once in their tenure. Let's not pretend that's a nearly apples to apples comparison. They also never consistently trended better in successive seasons like the Cubs have the last 3 years.
  15. Something I've been wondering in the midst of this slump and the one we saw last year is if there's an adjustment that's been made to how these guys are being pitched and have the coaches missed or been slow to getting these guys to adjust to that? Or are the players just missing hittable pitches, swinging at the wrong ones and looking at good ones?
  16. I'm not a huge hockey fan, but I can tell you that I'll always root for bad things to happen to anything that involves Stan Kroenke, so I'm pretty happy with the Avs getting embarrassed.
  17. Chris Davis had 2 unlucky seasons as a full time player and not once in his entire career did he run a season OBP as high as PCA has in the last 3 games where he's scalding the ball with only one hit.
  18. Walk, stolen base, sac bunt, sac fly in the bottom of the 9th, Pirates win 1-0.
  19. Any hot takes on the USMNT roster?
  20. The way I'm reading the "Chicago officials" is local politicians and if they decide to punt, then the Bears are SOL unless they decide to fund everything themselves, which we know will never happen.
  21. 100% agree with this. There's obviously technique involved in the NFL, but it's much more about physical abilities than anything else outside of the QB position. There's so much more nuance to baseball than football that it's an apples to oranges comparison.
  22. Ah yes, the big brained problem of being unable to locate your breaking ball. He got Walker out because he found it again.
  23. What if I told you they're getting a gold glove 3B with a league average OPS+ that would land him in the top 10 3B in MLB? Does that sell better?
  24. It is funny how they've got their mouthpiece Finebaum out here arguing how it would devalue the regular season to go to 24.
