  1. The encouraging part of this for me is that we have another example already on the team who had a similar problem the Cubs were able to fix in Ian Happ. Given the raw ability of PCA and how young he is, seems like something that should be correctable.
  2. I was just coming to post that.
  3. Stop. None of them should get a tax subsidy to do a damn thing. They're billionaires and self proclaimed genius businessmen. They can figure out how to make it profitable and if they can't, why should taxpayers foot the bill for any of it? horsefeathers them.
  4. The catcher )or in Hendricks case, the pitcher) are still calling pitches using PitchCom. It's not coming from the bench.
  5. @Irrelevant DudeI think the conversation around Lester is less about bringing him into the game in general than it is about bringing him into a dirty inning. There were even conversations about that before the game. especially considering his issues with holding runners on and throwing to 1st. The Chapman error was definitely game 6 and re-watching that 9th inning, i have no idea how Cleveland didn't hit several of those meatball sliders he threw into the seats.
  6. Nothing substantive. Just that they have other guys who they think can pick up the slack and they highlighted Suzuki and Nico as guys at the top of that list.
  7. That's lazy, disingenuous, and patently ridiculous and you know it.
  8. Please show your work. Because your claim is wildly untrue based on last year's results and this year's projections.
  9. False victimhood as is the hallmark personality trait of that entire group.
  10. Outside of him being a garbage person and by all accounts a bad teammate, seems like a great idea, especially if you ignore all the other stuff and that he's probably not actually good anymore, plus MLB hates him for the sticky stuff issue (right or wrong, it's a thing).
  11. This feels way off with regard to the Cardinals. They have 2 36+ year old pitchers slated for their rotation coming off bad years and very little depth. Sure, they added a bunch of pen arms but their rotation last year was bad and they basically replaced Montgomery with Gray and Wainwright with Lynn, which should be about comparable overall. I find it really hard to believe this part of the projections ends up accurate, especially with Counsell managing the Cubs pen and Marmol still a significant question mark.
  12. Cubs ranked #2 behind the Orioles in farm systems by Kiley McDaniel at ESPN. Anybody have a BA membership and can share the Cubs ranking there?
  13. I have too many Chiefs fans in my social media feeds and I want them to lose badly so I don't have to see any more of their BS for a while.
  14. I would bet a large sum of money against this. If it's not Alzolay and ends up as one of the young guys, Brown would be my bet. But if they're in contention I half expect a band aid solution at the back of the pen from the trade deadline.
  15. He didn't win. horsefeathers that guy and his anti vax horsefeathers.
  16. I think the biggest thing here is that the depth this year is much more significant. You had a very small number of guys you were relying on, plus how unsettled all the roles were. I think there's both more certainty to roles this year and a lot more viable options to explore if someone isn't performing out of the gate. Plus, I think Counsell will likely be better at managing/anticipating than Ross was.
  17. Northwestern shot 61% from 3 and 55% overall from the floor last night. They hit a few ridiculous shots but the Illini defense was disorganized and mostly trash all night. Frustrating to see after how good they've been the last several years and so far this year.
  18. I think there are entirely too many variables to render any kind of accurate opinion on that at this point. Health (Stro vs Imanaga IP for instance), Steele coming off a career high IP, will Suzuki be the guy he was in the 2nd half all season, is Busch the vast improvement over the 1B amalgam we had last year, does Morel develop more, is Taillon more in line with expectations of when he signed. I think that's a process you can go through at the end of the season and given a similar set of circumstances, I'll be surprised if this team (assuming a Bellinger signing happens) isn't 4-8 games better than last year.
  19. I'm fine with those guys getting in but absolutely agree with you on the other 3. I also don't get all the love Jimmy Rollins is getting from guys like Rosenthal. Hall of Very Good for certain, but not HoF for me.
  20. I think you're wildly underestimating how dumb 18-22 year olds (especially privileged white guys from the Chicago suburbs) are and how easy it is to fall into the "these are my colors and nobody can mess with them" mentality.
  21. Listen, I think most of us here have enough of a track record that we're at best uncomfortable with this whole situation so to call him anyone's "hero" is kinda ******. I hope he didn't do it, the evidence he did is specious, but things like this have gone unreported and unpunished all too often. The standing ovation was I wish wouldn't have happened but a lot of college students haven't gotten enough life experience and perspective to keep them from feeling that way. I obviously have no idea what happened in Lawrence that night but if he did what he's accused of, send his ass to jail.
  22. Overpaying in terms of years or AAV. Player options, opt outs, etc. don't usually cost you anything real.
