  1. Although the Nats are not a good offensive ballclub, over the last 7 games prior to this series, they scored 5-7-6-4-2-5-8 runs respectively. That's 5.3 runs a game over the last 7. The Cubs would kill for that kind of offense. Give credit to Zambrano and Marhsall for doing their jobs. No, you have to give credit to Dusty for his superior motivational skills that only took 2 1/2 weeks to take effect. Wooooooooo Dusty. I swear I'm not frustrated, really.
  2. No way he came up in the Cubs system. he took the first 2 pitches. :D
  3. Thanks for the pbp, Fred. I hate living in St Louis so much. Try Maryland, I only get WGN, and somehow I don't get a single game of this series, as they are all on MASN, and I don't get it. I'm in the same boat, plus I have to deal with cardinal fans. MLB EI You expect me to drop $150 to watch this pathetic display?????? No...I expect you to drop $150 preseason....before you know it will be a pathetic display. :D And that's exactly why I didn't. It's an addiction that is just not healthy for me if they are playing poorly, let alone this ridiculous crap they are trying to pass off a s baseball.
  4. 2 in a row even. Apocalypse???????????

  7. naw Kensing gave it up...but the fish have the lead now again It's over. Chipper just hit a 3 run shot in the 11th.

  9. Looks like 2 nights in a row Borowski gives it away late.
  10. If a guy gets on, someone pinch runs for him and scores, who gets the run scored, the batter or runner?
  11. That's all? I would have thought 9 runs in less than an inning would have ballooned it more than that.
  12. Guess who started Sean Marshall in their fantasy league????
  13. In an unrelated note, Juan Cruz gave up 9 runs in 2/3 of an inning tonight.
  14. Bad moves from the past absolutely have contribution to the this season. To pretend otherwise is absolutely inaccurate. It's not piling on to show how past mistakes can have lasting effects. Can you please explain to me how the Estes and Alfonseca signings of several seasons ago contribute to this season? Dontrelle Willis is pitching for the Marlins still, isn't he?
  15. if jwilliams came through, like many of us expected, rusch & guzman wouldn't have been starting much. I don't think it would have affected Rusch much. Marshall took Williams' spot in the rotation and if Jerome was pitching well, it would have meant no Marshall. If they had then decided to pull Rusch from the rotation later, I'm not sure that they wouldn't have chosen Guzman. Marshall darn near made the rotation out of ST if I'm not mistaken. And why would they have gone to Guzman 1stto replace Rusch when they went to Marshall 1st to replace Williams. I'm not quite making the connection with your logic. Bottom line for me is, if Williams was pitching better, we'd have 4 solid guys in the rotation now instead of 3.
  16. I agree. Steve Phillips (yes I know he's a moron) was kissing Dusty's butt this morning on Mike and Mike, nearly making me puke.
  17. You know, I was actually thinking about that the other day. There are some similarities between the two situations. A lackadaisical manager, a fairly young team, Juan Pierre leading off, a capable 2nd baseman, D. Lee, and the potential for a whole lot of pitching (if and when it gets healthy). Not that it is probable or even remotely likely, but it gives you a little something positive to think about. Unfortunately, there isn't a potential ML ready superstar at AAA.
  18. That actually made me laugh. Unfortunately it rings so true for this team.
  19. Couldn't agree more. And if a player can't handle a little criticism, how is he going to respond in a high pressure game situation. If a guy can't take it, I don't want him on my team.
  20. I think he is being given a pass for several reasons. 1-He doesn't make a ton of money. 2-This is really the 1st time as a Cub he has had an extended cold streak (I think). 3-He's not a guy who has ever been accused of not hustling or working hard. All things other guys getting critcized don't have going for them. He's the kind of player most fans on this board would like to have in a Cub uniform, save the occasional diarrhea of the mouth.
  21. This guy isn't on the fire Baker tomorrow bandwgn? I don't know what his problem is, especially after the good questions he would ask a prospective manger, but he should be on the fire Baker YESTERDAY bandwgn.
  22. I like the term Boers and Bernstein use. Whena team is this horrible and actually amusing to watch, they call them "fun-bad". It's really fairly amusing.
  23. pull the plug on hill? who do you suggest to take his spot? he's certainly outpitched guzman. and for all the fawning people do over marshall, it ain't like he's setting the world on fire either. hill is the least of the cubs' problems right now. I think he meant pull the plug on the team. i.e. Firesale and play the young guys.
  24. He's still the hitting coach for most of the veterans. Clines is the hitting coach for most of the younger players, I believe. Really? I didn't know that. And I'm simultaneously stunned and outraged. And incontinent. Matthews proved his infinitesimal worth already. Why contnue to let him instruct hitters. The Cubs are so bad they're making you urinate on yourself? Really, that's just beyond ridiculous, something has to be done immediately.
  25. Here's how: Dusty is an enabling, excuse-making, buffoon of a manager and has no idea what the heck he's doing in the dugout. No to harp on things, but he literally cost the Cubs a chance to go extra inning yesterday with his ridiculous bunt calls.
