  1. Hill has only one pitch and that's it. His fastball and change are terrible. If you ask me, he has no future on this team. Hill has decent velocity on his fastball but not a whole lot of movement which makes his location even more important. They were saying his location was excellent at Iowa, but he couldn't keep the ball down or get ahead in the count at all last night. How many times have heard this already? At a certain point you just have to say that his stuff in AAA doesn't translate to the MLB level. How many times do you have to be told to wait until he get's 8-10 start in a row without having to worry about being demoted before you make a judgement? Have your opinions, but jeez, cut the kid some slack.
  2. Now why would the Blue Jays wants Marmol? Just like the Red Sox, they are still in the hunt for the playoffs, and may not gamble on a rookie starter/reliever. So, I doubt the Cubs are going to land Wily Mo Pena. Good chance that the Jays don't make the playoffs this year anyway, Marmol isn't much of a downgrade if any from Lilly, and Lilly has said he wants to sign with somebody near his home (CA?) so they'll get nothing for him after this year. I would seriously consider it if I was the Jays. They've got some pitching signed thru another few years and the hitting could be there.
  3. OK, the Cardinals never play this dumb. I have to watch them all the time and they're never as bad as they've been against the Cubs this year. Mental and physical mistakes all over the place.
  4. He probably thought the coach was too drunk to make the call. Win totals are an awful way to judge a pitcher. Yeah, but the 2 times before today that Marquis blew up really inflated his ERA. The 12 against the Braves and 13 against the Sox are adding probably a 1-1.5 runs to his ERA.
  5. Who would have thought after the last 2 innings that Marquis would be the one not making it through the 4th? Man, when he blows up, he does it in grand fashion.
  6. Rolen's throw pulled Pujols off the bag, but just barely.
  7. Seriously dude, this is unnecessary. It's obnoxious and troll-like. No one was talking about Hill vs. Marmol and Marshall in here. You brought it up. Please knock it off. I don't see the problem here. He was making an observation on the agressiveness and pitching styles of the young guys. And in my opinion he's right. I do think Hill should be starting for the rest of the year so he gets a chance to get comfortable in the majors. As has been brought up a lot, not all guys have that level of confidence to succeed right away.
  8. I think the core of the rivalry has nothing to do with sports.. I think it has more to do with the fact there are two large cities in MO on opposite sides of the state, and neither is markedly better than the other, so a rivalry was born. Couple that with the fact StL people are very proud of their city and like to condescend to others about it, and KC folks become naturally defensive. Since it's smaller, they also do have an inferiority complex. There's also a lot of inter-state politicking between the cities, where both cities have lobbied for stuff at the expense of the other. (KC's new stadium deal was the most recent. I believe Enterprise, a StL company, did some heavy lobbying to stop KC from getting their new arena.) The sports are just a natural progression. The fact the world series was lost on a super controversial call exacerabted the situation. Then StL got another football team, and they quickly got better than the Cheifs (KC's major source of pride) and things got worse. To me, the KU/Mizzou thing is pretty low on the list for reasons for the rivalry for a few reasons. •Stl is more of a pro sports town than college sports. •StL's college sports loyalties are severely divided. Mizzou has the most alums, but UI and KU have large contingents. •KC is also split. It's dominated by KU, but there are tons of Mizzou fans, too. They even get regular home coverage in the paper. There are also 7 or 8 K-State fans. Whatever the source, though, there is a huge city rivalry between the two, and KC does have an inferiority complex. that made me laugh out loud.
  9. I'm putting my money on Rusch back to the rotation......and Wuertz called up to replace in middle relief. Isn't Rusch DLed from Prior's activation?
  10. Juan's been on base 35 times this year??? :D no, some of those he stole 2nd and 3rd. :D Beat me to it. :D
  11. Huh? Sorry.... hit a wrong key I just thought you were making fun of Hendry and Dusty, actually.
  12. You know if that was Theriot or Cedeno up in that situation he would have had them bunting.
  13. Don't say something you can't take back. I wouldn't want to see Greg's stats in Minute Maid. fwiw, Wrigley has been a better park for hitters than Minute Maid this year: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/parkfactor That makes the Cubs offense that much more pathetic. Or does it make the Cubs pitching that much more pathetic?
  14. At least Houston put out a crappy lineup too. How are they anywhere near the playoffs right now?
  15. Living in St, Louis and watching the Braves pound the Cardinals the last 2 days (at least there is some small enjoyment for me this baseball season), I was thinking that Betemit would be a great guy to get who could be available. Atlanta doesn't have anywhere to put him right now, but he can play 2B, 3B or SS and their bullpen is a shambles. They had a huge lead last night and left Hudson in longer than necessary because of it. I think Williamson plus a prospect might get it done with the price of relief pitching apparently what it is. I'm less enamored with Pena, and Boston gave up a solid starting pitcher to get him. I think the player cost may be more than it's worth.
  16. I just sent a case of Vodka each to Baker and Hendry's offices. Drink up boys. Pity no one thought of this strategy in, oh, April maybe.
