  1. Is that Murton's brother playing for GT? If so what does anybody know about him?
  2. That could have a couple of connotations depending on how you look at it!!!
  3. I think you have to look at the energy and popularity he has brought to the NBA. A sale of the Cubs to Cuban would most likely raise the profile of baseball and increase revenues in a roundabout way for everyone because of the increased publicity. Owners like guys who can make them more revenue, regardless of their policies or tendencies.
  4. If Walker isn't back, Soriano or Loretta short term until EPatt is ready. Move Jones to Center if he isn't traded and get Guillen for RF. I like the move for Zito, but Mulder scares me a lot. I would also be on board with Schmidt. C Barrett 1B Lee 2B Soriano/Loretta SS Cedeno 3B ARam LF Murton CF Jones RF Guillen Z, Prior, Schmidt, Marshall, and another of the young guys Howry, Eyre, Dempster, Ohman, Wuertz, Novoa Top of the order is Loretta and Murton or Murton Cedeno. Lots of thunder behind them if they get on at a decent clip.
  5. If he were a Cub, would you feel the same? Absolutely. I hate the fact that Sosa has been accused of using steroids and that he corked his bat. There is no reason anybody should be allowed to break records and make millions outside of the established rules. I don't care if he plays for the Cubs, Cards, or DRays.
  6. Why would they not approve him? Think of what Cuban bring: a huge personality and a desire to win above all else. What more could MLB ask for than a winning team on the north side to boost interest in baseball in general and get people off the topic of steroids. The Cubs and Red Sox winning are the best things that can happen to baseball.
  7. I think I know what game you're talking about. It was on Mother's Day a coupe of years ago. That was the same game that J.D. Drew pulled a muscle and was put on the DL. I remember Chip/Steve and Pat/Ron all agreeing that the game should have been called a lot earlier because of playing conditions. Didn't he wreck his ankle along the same lines that Robin Ventura trashed his?
  8. My biggest complaint after going to 3 games this week was the fact that the signs for the seating sections are almost non-existent. They used to have them all over hanging from the ceiling and now they are very small and just on the edge of each section. Don't know if that's something they're going to add later or not.
  9. I'm a big fan of Patterson's. I wish he'd cut back on the K's, but he walks, has pop, and is a good basestealer. If he can settle in in the .280-.290 range at the MLB level, I think he has a Todd Walker with speed/better defense upside, possibly better. Agreed, in fact I think I made the exact same comparison to Dob the other day. Good, well all aboard the bandwagon then. His strikeout rate is high (101 in 119 ABs last year), but better than someone like Ryan Harvey, and his walk rate remains solid. He hit well and showed good patience and baserunning instincts during college, so I was really surprised when he fell into the 8th round. I think because he's short, plays middle infield and runs fast, people are trying to pigeonhole him into a Jose Reyes type of approach at the plate. It's silly to overlook the fact that he's hit HRs and XBHs all through his college and minor league career. He's got the strength to hit with some pop, so why just try to slap the ball through the infield? I think Brian Roberts is also a good comparison - good speed but not overwhelming; decent power and a good ability to take walks. I could see him as a Brian Roberts with slightly more pop but a little higher strikeout rate. What was it really?
  10. Actually, not that unusual. I had to have my shoulder scoped just because I slept on it wrong one night. I was perfectly fine one day and couldn't lift more than about 60% of my max on a bench press until after I got it fixed.
  11. Am I the only one who got this? Really quite clever and amusing way of calling someone a name.
  12. 1 year does not a career make. so we are just going to have to disagree. Kyle has up years and then down years. A 4.48 lifetime ERA in 441 games tells me he is not a great pitcher. Kyle is a space cadet and cant handle pressure. He wont make it a week as Yankee closer if Rivera has to go to the DL. The Bronx is a Zoo and will eat him alive. Edit: Here are some split numbers. G GS W L SV CG SHO IP H R ER HR BB K ERA WHIP BAA Bases Empty 419 0 0 0 0 0 0 292.2 290 89 81 43 136 317 2.49 1.46 .247 Runners On 361 0 0 0 0 0 0 280.0 245 223 202 38 130 268 6.49 1.34 .245 RISP 295 0 0 0 0 0 0 164.1 152 170 152 23 95 166 8.32 1.50 .250 RISP w/2 Outs 250 0 0 0 0 0 0 78.2 78 155 141 14 53 88 16.13 1.67 .250 Bases Loaded 58 0 0 0 0 0 0 16.1 20 18 16 2 4 16 8.82 1.47 .317 That is what tells me about pressure. While I understand the point you're trying to make, isn't it inherently more difficult to have high ERA when there is no one on base? I bet if you pulled a lot of pitchers stats, you would see something similar. Perhaps not as extreme as these numbers, but the same trend. I agree with you to a point, but the example you used may not be the best.
  13. As usual, did a spectacular job of saying absolutely nothing.
  14. If it makes anyone feel better, Koronka got completely lit up tonight. 7 runs in 2.2 innings. That's the guy we all know and love not having in a Cub uniform anymore.
  15. Just the pitch count. No worries, his arm will fall off in a couple of weeks. Actually, Dusty did something right tonight pulling him when he did, even if it was for the wrong reason.
  16. 6 freaking pitches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Horrible, especially for the 4-5-6 hitters. UGH!!!!!!!
  17. Alright, back-to-back jacks to end it.
  18. sorry Tiger, but I hardly fault Jones for that one. he ran, didnt taunt, just raised his finger (#1 style) in celebration It doesn't matter to me if it's taunting or celebration, you look stupid celebrating a home run that doesn't even give you the lead. Players that do that should expect some chin music. If that actually happened, Manny wouldn't have a head left after the crap he does when he hits one.
  19. Why don't the Cubs ever get the breaks like that? I mean come on, that is the kind of breaks we need, dude.
  20. My exact thought was: Why are you swinging at that crap?
  21. In what? ABs where a Cub swings at a ball for strike 3?
  22. Wrigley was nuts that night. I was there and it was unreal.
  23. You: apparently hitting the pipe or bottle a bit. Discuss...... :D
  24. Has the umps zone been this huge all night?
