  1. I think the increased depth of the lineup has had a significant effect on how they all approach their at bats. They don't all feel like, "If I don't get it done here, it won't happen at all". They are confident that the guy behind them will get it done and are willing to wait for a pitch they can do something with and that results in a walk or getting a good swing on a pitch to their liking. We saw a little of the old approach last night in DeRo and Soto's ABs. Hopefully that was an abberration and they won't revert back to ABs like that.
  2. Wouldn't that be the answer to what do Jim Edmonds and Paris Hilton have in common? Double Winnar!!!
  3. Based on the way people talk about the situation around here, and his slump after the HGH stuff at the end of last year, it sounds like the Cards are still very concerned about his mental state and there's just about no way they would try to put him on the mound, even in a blowout situation for a couple of batters. I just think they are so afraid of what being back on the mound might do to him there's no way they would take a chance on screwing up all the progress he's made at the plate.
  4. U said taint 3 times in 2 sentences. I found it funnier than I should have.
  5. However, the reason most people can't ahieve that size on their own is that your muscles are unable to recover quickly enough for you to continue working out at the level required to get that big. Which is why a 30-40 pound muscle gain over a 4-6 year period isn't unusual, but when you do that in 2 years it's a bit unusual. Just an aside to the thought, not saying anything inparticular about Sammy, although I am of the opinion that he partook in something less than legal.
  6. 1. While I agree that LaRussa is a complete douche and does micromanage the snot out of his teams, he is very intelligent and does get more out of his teams than most other managers would. Therefore, not overrated. 2. Do you know anything about the Cards new management team? The guy who replaced Jocketty has already gotten rid of the albatross of Scott Rolen without paying any of his contract and was given the job because unlike Jocketty, he understands the value of sabermetrics and is willing to work with the Cardinals scouting and development people to bring in guys who aren't old broken down veterans. 3. Dave Duncan is still Dave Duncan and still, for whatever reason, can get good performances out of historically craptatastic pitchers. With that said, trust me, nobody is rooting harder than me for them to realize they aren't good and start to crap the bed. Hopefully we saw the beginning of that this weekend with them getting beat twice by the Giants. But get your facts straight, at this point I would much rather have the Cards front office in Chicago than the on we've got.
  7. FYI, Giants now up 8-0, Looper out and Reyes is pitching. I think Reyes gave up the last 2 runs.
  8. Anybody else having issues with the WGN braodcast? I'm getting a lot of picture jumping and sound interruptions.
  9. Well, based on that ^^^^^^, we should see a lineup that includes Murton in LF, DeRo at 2B, and Cedeno at SS. Hopefully something like this: Johnson Murton Lee Ramirez Fukudome DeRo Soto Cedeno Dempster
  10. Yes, yes they are that good. The best 1-2 punch in the league for starting pitchers, lots of young talent up and down their lineup. The only thing I'm not so sure about is their pen, but only because I can't really name anybody in except for Brandon Lyon and maybe Juan Cruz still? I'm curious to see if their offense will sustain itself with seemingly low contact guys in CF and at 3B in Young (I think) and Reynolds.
  11. Lou's response to ole Marty: Cubs manager Lou Piniella shrugged off Brennaman's comments. "He is a Cincinnati guy," Piniella said. "He's rooting for the Reds. I don't think our fans are obnixious. The fans get into the ballgame, and they enjoy coming to the baseball game, and that is why they draw the way they do here."
  12. Eventually the players are going to realize they ain't as good as their April is suggesting, and by May the Cards will fall back into their spot in the NL Central. You can't rely on 4 crappy pitchers, and one good pitcher for the whole season. Didn't we say the same thing in '06??? They actually did fall back to their place in '06, unfortunately everybody else in the division was so horrible, they couldn't take advantage of the division winner only having 83 frickin' wins.
  13. I think he just went on the DL yesterday, didn't he?
  14. He's finally close enough to the real Beltran to really see how good he is and is now realizing his potential?
  15. I don't see the big deal with 103 for Z. Not like Dusty leaving Prior out there for 130 with an 8 run lead. But why is Z hitting?
  16. I don't really mind the Cardinals beating the Brewers. Obviously one of those teams has to lose. I'm more worried about Milwaukee this season than the Cards. But yes, after the Milwaukee series, they should start losing. Then I'll be pretty happy with the way things are going. Unfortunately, I think they get the Giants this weekend. I'm pretty sure I have tickets to the game on Friday night. Just looked and at least the Cards have to face Cain and Lincecum on Friday and Saturday.
  17. Z! Crushing the ball and breaking bats tonight.

  19. So I'm in the thriving metropolis of Henderson, KY and much to my delight, they get FSN Ohio here so I'm watching the game and listening to Thom (gayest way to spell a name ever) Brennamen and Jeff Brantley (I think) pontificate on baseball. Not as good as Pat and Ron or Bob and Len, but better than I get in St. Louis. Great game, just curius to know how everybody feels about all the 2nd basemen playing tonight.
  20. I can't believe how dumb this is. I was thinking this would happen this morning when Brenly told North it wasn't a foregone conclusion that Murton would be coming up. I thought of EPatt because they would think they needed a speedy lefty to hit leadoff instead of making the smart move. Ugh.
  21. If so, that's one hell of a guard. He is. To be fair, Kidd is a horrible shooter so it's not a surprise. And Jason's court vision and passing are amongst the best. But body type, speed while Kidd was in his prime, etc. are very similar. I'd take Rose over Beasley. To be fair, I told you how good he was a month and a half ago and got ripped for it. Good to see you have came to your senses. Rose should be the first pick in this draft. Power forwards are there every year, but a great point guard is there every 5-10. I would be shocked if Derrick Rose ever became any kind of transcendent player, which is what a better shooting Jason Kidd would be (Oscar Robertson). I'd be shocked if he doesn't become a guy who does for his team what Chris Paul and Deron Williams do, and maybe a little better. He's got better physical makeup than either of those 2 (bigger than Paul, faster than Williams) and if he develops his shooting a little more, which it looks to me like he will be able to do, he can easily be a franchise PG. Maybe not Oscar Robertson, but a fantastic NBA PG for a long time.
  22. Can somebody explain this to me? Nope, and that's why everybody hates the current system so much.
  23. Good read. My only question for the guy is, if he was so unhappy why not say anything? I mean, the article says the other coaches had no idea he was miserable. I think you have to tell somebody. But good for him for doing his own thing and getting himself a 2nd shot.

Maybe Samardzija can start in CF. Will sharkfan be happy with the Cubs then?
  25. Has Kyler Burke done anything of note yet so far? I've been trying to look at the results from the game threads but haven't seen him play much. Any reason for that?
