    DFAing him and eating the salary wouldn't be all bad considering he'd be replaced by a combination of Hill, Marshall, and Gallagher all making less than $0.5 million.

    I really like Pat and Ron, but what the hell does Pat mean when he says "wide of third"? That sounds like a foul ball to me but he only says it when it's in play. Ususally the 3B fields it, but Greene fielded Lee's ball when he said it this time. Weird.

    I don't believe I'll ever tire of Pat's "Chicago Cubs baseball is on the air!!!" Music to my ears.

    The argument is that Felix has consistenly shown he needs 1-2 months to adjust to each new level and then starts hitting. He's not being given an opportunity to make the necessary adjustments and if you look at the ABs he's had the last 2-3 weeks, his OBP and avg. have been far better than they were in the first 3 weeks.

    I have no idea why Edmonds would want to play here. Between the problems there have been between him and Z and the hell the fans are sure to give him if he signs... Sounds like he's a little bitter about how his departure from St. Louis was handled. Not that he has a problem with being traded, but the way he was treated by people in the Cards organization on his way out more than anything and wants to try to rub their noses in it by playing for their hated rivals. No confirmation of that, just rumblings I've heard down this way.

    Uh, we were discussing guys at their best in their primes, obviously. It would be a little difficult for Puckett to run one down these days.

    So... since the players have covered for Lou's mistakes, he's excused for all of them? its easy to "arm chair" manage.....lous record this year, and over his career show that he knows what he is doing...im not trying to be mean, but hey, a win is a win, and if the cubs are in first, to me, im happy about it.....thats all im saying..... How do you feel about the potential signing of Edmonds? How will you feel about our bullpen when Marmol's arm falls off in August from overuse in unnecessary situations? How do you like Reed Johnson's .250 avg. against righties when we have a young player with a history of needing a couple of months to adjust at each new level who happens to hit from the left side of the plate sitting on the bench on a regular basis? How do you like the use/non-use of Ronny Cedeno, who has shown a better approach at the plate, has been tearing the cover off the ball, and is twice the defensive player Fontenot is? Just because a result turns out well doesn't mean the method that got you there is right.

    The only one of these I really take any umbrage with is #3. Yes, Theriot was handed the job, but he has certainly earned keeping his spot thus far. Lou hasn't hesitated in most cases to yank a guy if he's not getting the job done. I would certainly like to see Cedeno getting more ABs, but I can't really complain about Theriot so far except for the stupid SB attempts. Oh, and #8 as well. But only because Fox shouldn't be getting any appearances because he shouldn't be on the roster.

    I think I read somewhere he is quasi-committed to Rutgers.

    It's actually reasonably good logic. Kendall hits for a ton of contact, particularly ground balls, and is pretty slow. He's hit into a ton of DPs the last few years because of it and hitting the pitcher in front of him lessens the amount of runners on base when he's up. I think I heard today during the game he hasn't hit into a DP yet this year.

    Good to see Demp get thru that inning reasonably efficiently. He may get us thru 6 if he can avoid a huge PC next inning.

    Theriot hits a nice ball into RF. Soriano's running all the way. Upton bobbles the ball. Quade throws up the stop sign and Soriano ran right through it. Upton throws the ball home before Soriano gets there. Soriano slides head-first and it looks like Snyder dropped the ball or Soriano knocked the ball out of Snyder's hands. Uuummm, no. Upton threw to 2nd and when Sori saw him do that he took off for home. Ojeda threw home and Sori knocked the ball out of Snyder's glove as he slid, making him safe.

    That brings up an interesting question. Do you bring Guzman back as a reliever, at least for 2008-2009? He was having serious trouble getting past 85-90 pitches before he got hurt, and he needs to make the team next year. I'd bring him out of the bullpen because that gives him the best shot to establish himself in the major leagues for a while, and then if he's still healthy re-evaluate before 2010. I like that idea, because he'll be able to air it out when he pitches to get completely comfortable again. Only fear I have is that he's good and Lou decides to start using him like he does Marmol.

    He was short and chubby, but he could go get it. Maybe not the best example, but he was well above avg. in CF.

    Or it could just be the fact that he's, you know, in his late 30's. And had several concussions. I've been told they do wonders for the hand/eye coordination. I use to make fun of him, but secretly I've always admired his skills on the baseball field. He's probably the best defensive CF in the last 25 years. Are you kidding me??????!!!! He is without question the most overrated defensive CF probably to ever play the game. He made his entire career out of making routine flay balls look like amazing catches. Yeah, he was good at making the diving catch, but if you judge the ball correctly off the bat and take the correct line on it (like Andrew Jones) you have to dive a lot less often. Don't let your biases cloud your judgment. He's not. He's completely accurate in saying Edmonds made a whole lot of more difficult than average catches look like you had to be a superhero to make them. However, he was in fact a very good CF, but not even close to the best of the last 25 years. Griffey Jones Hunter Puckett Lofton Just to name a few that were as good or better than him on an every day basis.

    You just know that if Pie was playing and a lefty was on the mound he would get a PH here, just as Reed should get one with a righty on the mound. Lou really pisses me off with his overmanaging in some cases and just letting stuff go in others. Dumb.

Hopfully, today is the begining of his downfall and it wont matter. Can you imagine if their rotation consisted of: C. Young Volquez Danks Milwood Obviously their numbers wouldn't have looked as good in that park, but still. Young is great in the cow pasture that the Pads play in, but his flyball tendency makes me think he probably would only be a serviceable 5th guy pitching in Arlington 1/2 his starts.

    Other than that Cedeno punk who's only hitting .380 ish, no. Do I really have to put every last ounce of sarcasm in green font? Well, it is a game thread where everybody tends to be overly emotional, so maybe. I wasn't sure if you were serious or not. Lay it on a little thicker, man. :mrgreen:

    Yeah, this. And seriously, how many people go to the draft? It can't be that many, it's at Radio City Music Hall. I can't magine there's more than a couple thousand in there. And also, it definitely shouldn't be in a city that DOESN'T HAVE A FREAKIN' TEAM BECAUSE NOBODY GOES TO THE GAMES.

    Homan is gone from IU and I've also heard that DeAndre "The Giant" Thomas is gone as well. I think that drops them to 3 scholarship players with one of them being a former walk on.

    I've never tried that. Have you had any success doing it? Done it a few times. Works good because you usually end up sitting in the visiting team's comp tickets they give back. Mostly sections 155 and 156 but way towards the back. Not the greatest seats: but for $11 a pair they kick ass. What time would you need to be down there to get a shot at a couple of seats?
