  1. I believe 103 pitches. Sweet. Unfortunate they got rid of our favorite Rule 5 guy.
  2. I'm in favor of a day or 2 off for him this next week. He'll figure it out, he's just dragging ass right now.
  3. I don't know if it's possible to be more on fire than Sori is right now. Good lord.
  4. They've now finished beating on Garza for the day. Inning finally over.
  5. What similarities are there besides earned runs? Four innings, one run before falling apart in the fifth and leaving with the bases loaded. End result, 4 innings vs. 4.1 innings, 4 ER vs. 4 ER, 1 UER. Seems pretty similar to me. Well, except Gallagher hadn't started in about 2 weeks, found out he was starting 2 hours before game time, was making his 1st ML start, and he obviously ran out of gas. None of those should be issues for Z and that was why Gallagher was given a pass in his 1st start.
  6. I find the comparison to Marquis interesting in that Demp is a completely different kind of pitcher. Marquis is so reliant on that sinker to get ground balls and doesn't miss many bats whereas Demp's pitches are more reliant on movement to miss bats and get weak contact. I realize the numbers/history are comparable, but the fact that they are very different in style gives me hope Demp can maintain some of his current success. I don't expect him to maintain an ERA in the 2's, but something mid to high 3's seems pretty reasonable.
  7. I nearly spit Diet Coke all over my computer when Pat said that. Hilarious in light of the story that's out right now.
  8. Yea, let's solve problems that don't exist. I understand your explanation, which is perfectly reasonable. However, it doesn't excuse the Cubs management braintrust (using that term very loosely at this point) from trying to fix something that's not broken. I mean, really, does there need to be additions made to an offense that's leading the league in scoring? And, yes, if Edmonds can gain back his form of old, pushing Fuku into the 2 spot and Theriot to the 8, assuming they maintain close to their current production, makes the offense ridiculous.
  9. Your post belongs in that photo, as it is the very definition of short-sighted. You cannot accurately make a definitive evaluation before the guy has played one game. You're vision doesn't even extend into game one of a sample size. It may be likely and trend-supported that Edmonds turns out to be a terrible signing, but it's not a fact and can't be judged at this point with the worst Hendry moves. There is a chance that now playing for a winning team in a ballpark he has raked his whole career (.918 OPS career at Wrigley) results in an .800+ OPS and a dozen HR for a part time player. The fact that most rational people are upset about this has very little to do with the potential good or suckage Edmonds will bring or their general hatred of him. It has everything to do with the Cubs mishandling yet another of their young players. Period, end of story. If there was nobody to put out there other than Johnson, fine, do it, but that's not the case. The fact that he will most likely be bad just adds to the dislike of the move.
  10. I keep getting an error that says: Stack overload at line: 0 Any ideas on why? It's happening on multiple computers.
  11. If he could put up .270/.350/.450 or somewher in that neighborhood I'll be fine with him being in there against the righties. Much less than that and he has to go, and quickly. Also, somebody mentioned in the game thread that vance had a meltdown in this thread. Either it's not here any more or I was seriously misled. EDit: Brain fart issue
  12. I wouldn't be against sitting him tomorrow. Soto, too. That would be an interesting lineup: Soriano Theriot Fukudome Ramirez Ward Edmonds DeRosa Blanco Dempster I wouldn't be surprised to see Rammy get a day off tomorrow either.
  13. He's a guy I'm not overly surprised Duncan has had success with. He was willing to do whatever since he was on about his last chance, and he's got a much bigger arm than most of the guys Duncan has turned around. He's found some semblance of control, also a Duncan strength, plus he's got a much larger margin for error as a starter than as a reliever.
  14. Gameday tells me Giles just made an out on a cutter. Does Wuertz throw a cutter? I thought he was just FB and slider.
  15. If we wait a while, the Reds pitchers arms will all fall off and they'll need somebody. Won't they?
  16. DFAing him and eating the salary wouldn't be all bad considering he'd be replaced by a combination of Hill, Marshall, and Gallagher all making less than $0.5 million.
  17. You know he's gonna have a rough night when he's through 3 and his GO-FO is 3-5.
  18. I really like Pat and Ron, but what the hell does Pat mean when he says "wide of third"? That sounds like a foul ball to me but he only says it when it's in play. Ususally the 3B fields it, but Greene fielded Lee's ball when he said it this time. Weird.
  19. I don't believe I'll ever tire of Pat's "Chicago Cubs baseball is on the air!!!" Music to my ears.
  20. The argument is that Felix has consistenly shown he needs 1-2 months to adjust to each new level and then starts hitting. He's not being given an opportunity to make the necessary adjustments and if you look at the ABs he's had the last 2-3 weeks, his OBP and avg. have been far better than they were in the first 3 weeks.
  21. I have no idea why Edmonds would want to play here. Between the problems there have been between him and Z and the hell the fans are sure to give him if he signs... Sounds like he's a little bitter about how his departure from St. Louis was handled. Not that he has a problem with being traded, but the way he was treated by people in the Cards organization on his way out more than anything and wants to try to rub their noses in it by playing for their hated rivals. No confirmation of that, just rumblings I've heard down this way.
  22. Uh, we were discussing guys at their best in their primes, obviously. It would be a little difficult for Puckett to run one down these days.
  23. So... since the players have covered for Lou's mistakes, he's excused for all of them? its easy to "arm chair" manage.....lous record this year, and over his career show that he knows what he is doing...im not trying to be mean, but hey, a win is a win, and if the cubs are in first, to me, im happy about it.....thats all im saying..... How do you feel about the potential signing of Edmonds? How will you feel about our bullpen when Marmol's arm falls off in August from overuse in unnecessary situations? How do you like Reed Johnson's .250 avg. against righties when we have a young player with a history of needing a couple of months to adjust at each new level who happens to hit from the left side of the plate sitting on the bench on a regular basis? How do you like the use/non-use of Ronny Cedeno, who has shown a better approach at the plate, has been tearing the cover off the ball, and is twice the defensive player Fontenot is? Just because a result turns out well doesn't mean the method that got you there is right.
  24. The only one of these I really take any umbrage with is #3. Yes, Theriot was handed the job, but he has certainly earned keeping his spot thus far. Lou hasn't hesitated in most cases to yank a guy if he's not getting the job done. I would certainly like to see Cedeno getting more ABs, but I can't really complain about Theriot so far except for the stupid SB attempts. Oh, and #8 as well. But only because Fox shouldn't be getting any appearances because he shouldn't be on the roster.
