  1. Yeah, this was ridiculous. My dad wasn't able to watch and I must have texted him 5 or 6 different times that the game was over one way or the other. That game was probably more exciting than any Jordan era Bulls game I can remember, and I lived and died with those teams.
  2. Nova had an upset or two coming. They really haven't looked all that impressive. They shoot way too many threes. They seem to be turning into a better version of Duke. I don't know about better, but certainly significantly less hateable.
  3. They're absolutely not broke. Most of the eternal bottom dwellers have been getting more in revenue sharing money for the last several years than they spend on total payroll. Then you add in their ticket revenue and local tv money and the owners are making piles of cash. It's really pretty pathetic the way they do business and then claim they're broke.
  4. Anybody have any thoughts on Torbush and Long. I'm ashamed to say I don't know much about either. Wasn't Long the OC at OU when Jason White was the QB? If so, I think that reflects pretty well on Long based on how well White played under him and how little of a career he's had after OU.
  5. I'd much rather have Demp at 4/52 than have Lohse at the 4/42 the Cards have him at. I think he's a good comp for this discussion because he was locked up at the end of 2008 to a 4 year deal over the same time period Demp is. He's getting that with a much spottier history than Demp and 1 really good year.
  6. He has shoulder issues that haven't been resolved. Sadly, I think it will come back to bite the Rangers in the butt. Do we have any idea what part of the shoulder is the problem for Harden? I know we have no idea the severity to which it may or may not be damaged, but I'm curious to know what the supposed injury actually is.
  7. I think they'll steal a few more games than people think. They've really looked pretty good tonight and have been much more competitive this year than last. It helps when you don't have an unathletic midget playing a bunch of minutes at PG.
  8. W/E. All I know this constant complaining and whinning about the lack of a playoff system is beyong annoying. Until the viewership drops, and the BCS/NCAA, etc, etc,etc begins to lose money, then the playoff system will never be given anything more then a token topic to talk about it. And I am fine with it. So all this debate is pretty much moot. I'm amazed they haven't come up with something yet just because of the money grab it would be. And to say nobody has a format is just asinine. 8 teams, 3 games, you have a winner. Pretty simple. Keep the bowls and have 3 games after they end. The current extra game plus a 2nd semi and then a championship game a week later. 1 more week, 2 more games to make money off of and the whiners about the student athletes can shut up because they'll be done before classes resume.
  9. Crazy INT in the end zone with 45 seconds left to pretty much end the ECU-Houston game And Cinci takes home the Big East
  10. Talk about a crappy way to lose if Cinci can punch it in.
  11. Is this on BTN? If so, I don't get it so keep the updates coming if you can.
  12. It's sounding less and less likely by the day according to St. Louis sports radio that Steven Jackson will play on Sunday. If that happens, the Rams might not get into Bears territory all day even as bad as the D has become.
  13. He's right about no field turf being better than grass. Unfortunately, when it comes to Soldier Field in November and December, there is no grass, only green painted dirt.
  14. I agree with you for the most part, but he didn't just fix a mistake. He brought back some potentially useful pieces for a guy who didn't really have a future with the Cubs.
  15. Ive always been a fan of Polanco and his oddly shaped cranium, but 3/18mil? Even if he wasnt 34 years old, that would sound like a lot for him. I guess Ibanez worked out for them so who knows. All I know is if This were the Cubs, there would be people with torches and pitchforks outside Hednrys door. That sure seems like a good deal for Polanco. That does not seem like a good deal to me, but I'm guessing that means he will be their starting 3B. Also, "if this were the Cubs" and the Cubs were 1 year removed from a World Series title and one month removed from another NL pennant, I don't think many people would have room to freak out with pitchforks. Pretty sure he meant it was a good deal for Polanco, not necessarily a smart or good move for the Phils. At least that's how I read it, and I agree if that's what he meant.
  16. Halladay is clearly the better pitcher, but we don't need to do this. We have plenty of prospects, that's not the problem. We may have the prospects, but we also need them. This team will need an influx of young talent to makeup for the inevitable decline and departure of the core of this team, which is already too old. If you can keep your overall prospect balance constant, or near constant, while upgrading your veteran pitching situation, that would be pretty nice. So are the Cubs "already too old", or do they need to "upgrade (their) veteran pitching situation" by swapping a 28YO for a 32YO? You'll get no argument from me that Halladay > Zambrano, but if you're truly concerned about the age of the team, then this is a big step in the wrong direction. The age factor has relatively little to do with this situation. You're getting a better pitcher who, while a little older, has been not only exceptionally reliable, but is one of the best in the game. The idea is to get an influx of younger, cheaper guys to make up for the position players who are getting up in age, will likely have production drop off, and are expensive. Swapping out Z for some prospects and then sending those guys and maybe a little more for Halladay is a win-win if you can get him to sign a not outlandish extension.
  17. This is exactly how I look at it. While it's not the same thing, this is usually how I build my fantasy teams. 1B and OF with solid production are always available, while C, SS, and 2B with good numbers aren't. Get the top guys there first and then fill in with solid production for less than premium dollars. That would be okay if he still played defense halfway decent defense at 3B. I just can't see sending as much as they'll want for a 1B. I do see Goony's point about the availability of impact bats, but is the offense really in that bad of shape? there was one guy different in the lineup and a bunch of slumps at inopportune times last year. I'd be surprised if the offense is nearly as bad as it was last year even if they add nothing.
  18. I don't know that much about Purdue, but Tennessee has been shooting lights out from outside so far - only 51% from inside the arc, but 47% from outside it. They also run the usual Bruce Pearl style - fast, heavy pressure and trying to force turnovers and get quick shots. I haven't seen much from them this year, but from listening on the radio and from talk around the program, they're playing much faster than last year. Scotty Hopson has been the star so far, shooting 59% from the field and 63% beyond the arc. Tyler Smith and Cameron Tatum have been quite good from the field as well. No true point guard, though, (but Melvin Goins might become that) and the inside guys aren't huge. Sounds like they could cause problems for Purdue with no Lew Jack and no other true PG. Isn't another one of their guards banged up as well?
  19. Cutler was overthrowing guys badly last night obviously, but I don't remember really seeing that from him in the past. I really think the skill level of the receiver's is less of a problem that their football IQs. And again, I think that has everything to do with the coaching staff. These guys just aren't developing or getting any better. Cutler made the 3 really bad throws last night with the 2 TD misses back to back and the INT at the end, but the 5 picks against the 49ers, only 2 of them were on him. Horribly frustrating to watch.
  20. Watching his follow through on that, it reminds me of the stinger that Tiger hits. Sacrifice a little distance for accuracy. I bet he could get it there from about 60, but might not have any idea where it's going.
  21. Yeah, big fat guys who are strong and don't move well. He doesn't have a chance against a fast DE like Collinsworth said.
  22. So is the rest of the Big Ten unfortunately. The level of competition in football certainly doesn't seem to be heading the same direction as basketball right now.
  23. I would think the money he's owed will play a part, but I'm sure some alum will kick in most of it. I think if he wins the last 2 games and a bowl it would be tough to get rid of him. Plus, if Clausen, Floyd, and Tate all come back if he stays, then they'd be dumb to let him go.
  24. I know, right. This is a mistake, IMO. Not to mention the slogan "Cochon de Lait" translates into something like "Pig of Milk". I have to be missing something here. Apparently to the LSU fans it means "Pig Roast" according to the comments.
  25. Would that be a good idea? Millwood for 1 year, Lilly with 1 year left on his deal, and escalating contracts continuing to pile up would lead me to think that relying on Wells to provide cheap production form the 3-4-5 spot in the rotation is going to be pretty important going forward. Unless you think last season was a total fluke and you want to get what you can while the getting's good.
