  1. I hate how soft some aspects of college basketball have become. The incidental elbow to Plumlee's nose is not only called a foul, but the guy got a flagrant for it? That sucks. The guy should have room to make a move without the defender's beak being an issue.
  2. Wow, I've seen a lot of illegal screens, but that wasn't one of them. Good lord, guard the guy that can shoot from deep you idiots. The inability to close out on a 3 point shooter rears it's ugly head again.
  3. The worst part of that Watford 3 is that he wasn't even the most open guy on the floor. Transition D is awful. And Griffey continues to be bad.
  4. So a 4 game stretch now means more in evaluation than a 16 game stretch? I think this one is a little harder to judge than other situations have been due to the coaching change. I think it's tough to excel at the QB position when you're not on the same page as your OC. He's going to get paid, but there's no way he should get the $18-20M that Brady, Brees and Manning are getting.
  5. Indiana won at Illinois in 2008. They did not play at Illinois last year. Meaning, IU only has a 3-game losing streak at Illinois. Considering how long it has been since IU won at other locations, say Michigan State, I don't consider that so long. And I agree, I have no idea what to expect. IU matches up pretty well with Illinois so I could see a relatively comfortable win--I do not expect a blowout at all--or I could see Illinois going off from 3 and winning. Who knows? We're soft, mentally and physically. Nobody plays or communicates on defense after the first 5 minutes of each half, there's not much hustle, and we don't block out. So, unless we shoot about 60% from 3, we'll lose by at least 15. I'm so ready to see a changing of the guard and have the Weber coached out of these guys.
  6. Anybody willing to make a wager tonight and give me Illinois +20? I'd still be worried about them covering.
  7. i didn't say anything about being the highest paid. joe flacco played better than any other quarterback in the playoffs, he had a stupid TD/INT ratio. how often does an average qb do that? Well by TD/INT ratio he was the 12th QB. (11th if you take out Kolb) Just ahead of NFL great, Matt Shaub. http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/touchdown-to-interception-ratio/2012/ I think he meant in the playoffs.
  8. I have less of a problem with the body contact on the way to the hoop than I do with the absolute mugging that happened when he tried to shoot. That was awful and should have been called, even if it would have been against the home team in a B10 game.
  9. I haven't looked closely, but in all seriousness, was he a completely different QB once Caldwell took over the play calling? How long was Cameron there?
  10. I played The 2010 at Celtic Manor last March. It was a really cool experience, especially with the first class treatment you get over there, but man, $225 is a lot of cash for a round of golf.
  11. 1. They're using their own version of WAR, but Mozeliak very clearly says it's similar to what is available to the public with some of their own proprietary stuff in there. So yes, you're wrong. Whether it's a good measure of anything or not is another story, which is math way above my head, but this argument is about whether or not MLB GMs use WAR, not if it's useful. 2. I will agree with you 100% that assigning dollar values to WAR is kind of an exercise in futility because the value of 1 WAR is clearly not linear as you go on up the scale. The difference in dollar value between going from 1 to 2 is huge compared to going from 4 to 5.
  12. The best part of the tournament was the caddies racing to the greens. Pretty hilarious!
  13. I grew up watching McMahon and then Harbaugh play QB. I don't recall Jim throwing any tantrums as a player. I don't think that side of his personality really came to light publicly until he started coaching. He was always standoffish though, even as a player. I don't recall the tantrums either. He's becoming more onery with age :). I was on a flight with him when I was like 15 in January of '92. I went up to him and asked for his autograph in the airport and he was completely cool about it. He was just hanging out waiting for his next flight like anybody else.
  14. I particularly liked this line:
  15. Hard to argue with your first three. I'm not as sold on Louisville though. I'll need to be talked into Louisville at this point too. I think I like IU or Syracuse a little better right now.
  16. T. Boone Pickens has lots of dump trucks of cash he can back up?
  17. I like that he seems like kind of a dick, too. He really reminds me of a more dickish, knock off version of Landon circa 2000 or so. Yeah he's got an edge. Unfortunately he'll never be half the player Lando is/was. I don't follow very closely but watch games when I can and had never heard of or seen Gatt before, but the second I saw him playing I thought that he has to be a massive douche. He looks like a complete spaz out there.
  18. I really hope he does and makes the hard cap go away (or makes it less restrictive anyway). It has so much less to do with the draft pick than the money you lose along with the draft pick. I wouldn't be surprised if they renegotiate to losing the draft pick but keeping your pool money in the near future. That helps both the teams and the player looking for the contract.
  19. Might not happen if they weren't allergic to defense, rebounding and going to the basket. They're all just soft as hell.
  20. Any of you season ticket holders willing to part with a pair of Friday or Saturday tickets for the series at Wrigley in July (12th or 13th)?
  21. That was an extra crappy week for me in 2004. In addition to the Cubs collapse, my grandpa died that week. We all knew it was coming, but the huge Cubs collapse on top of that really sucked, especially since he was a huge Cubs fan and one of the big reasons I am too.
  22. I was just going to ask the exact same thing. This has to put us near .500 using the projections.
  23. Ah it's funny because black people look like felons. Or he's referring to the fact that a player got kicked off the team for raping....
  24. First, for as much douchebaggery as I deal with down here with regard to the Cards, Musial probably is the most underrated great player in the history of MLB. Second, I had no idea Earl Weaver was in the lollipop guild. Holy [expletive] he was short!
  25. My dad has season tickets to the Icehogs and sent me a text last night about how nuts the game was and how the awful officiating led to the brawl. That's an amazing display right there.
