  1. Ideally, that's a fantastic solution to the problem, but he'll be 32 in August and may want a longer term deal than the Cubs are willing to offer. If they can get him for 2 more years, that would be perfect but I'd be surprised if he takes that deal/someone doesn't offer him 3-4 years.
  2. If you think this, you clearly haven't been paying attention to the skills the Cubs FO seems to prefer in players, the most obvious being the ability to minimize swing and miss. I'm not saying Shaw is ticketed for the starting job in RF/LF next season, but to think that Alcantara has the upper hand when one guy is already playing in MLB regularly and the other guy hasn't been up for more than a cup of coffee while on the 40 man roster the last 3 years seems silly.
  3. Sure would be nice to have a challenge left to end the game right there.
  4. You did. It's right there. And it's especially funny that you said it in reference to Wiggins who signed for $300K above slot. Like I said, objectively stupid.
  5. Right, but that's unrelated to how many times he's thrown this week, which is what was implied in the post I was replying to.
  6. Calling the Cubs cheap in the draft is objectively stupid.
  7. He threw 25 pitches on Monday. Unless they have him on a pitch count of like 75-80 (which is entirely possible given how he's been used), I don't think there will be any restrictions on how deep he can go.
  8. I would almost bet that this is where they go just based on him not being used last night against the Reds. I think sending him out there with Assad ready to go a couple innings if his pitch count gets too high early would be my preferred route, but I suppose we'll find out Friday.
  9. Well, there's 2 different procedures they do on guys depending on what they want the outcome to be. One of them is a quicker recovery but leads to more issues down the road and the other is a more involved procedure that takes longer to heal but has a better long term prognosis.
  10. The 3 true outcomes on Murakami are wild. I looked up Adam Dunn and his highest % in any year was 56.7% of his PAs ending in a K, BB, or HR. Murakami is at almost 60% right now. I'm not sure that's sustainable. He also has 14 HRs on 17 barrels and I learned yesterday that the expectation is about 50% of barrels become HRs, so that seems like it may regress to the mean as well.
  11. Is there a concern about how real this power is based on what's being said about Pedro Ramirez and his AAA power surge? There's no doubt about some of the EVs KA is putting up but it seems like a lot of these are going to CF and may not jump out of an MLB park the way they have been in AAA. And man, that K rate is something.
  12. Kid has some swag. Between the bat flip on that HR and the flair on the slide into home on the BJ Murray double you can tell he has fun playing the game.
  13. The angle from the bleachers on the Seiya catch there made that play look a lot tougher than it did in live action. Great play.
  14. I don't know, I could see Shaw's bat becoming something akin to Happ and he's been out there for 8+ years now.
  15. There's a non-zero chance you need 4 SPs this offseason. Cabrera is the only sure thing for 2027. You already know Horton is probably out until June minimum, Steele and Wiggins essentially haven't thrown a 2026 inning yet, Assad is probably fine to count on as a #5, Wicks is a question mark, Boyd and Shota are FAs, and we have no idea what Ben Brown's future holds in terms of pen vs starter.
  16. That's the thing though, it wasn't chance. Ben Brown threw an obvious strike 3 to the batter, the umpire missed the call and then he gave up a couple of runs. There wasn't chance involved, it was the umpire doing his job poorly.
  17. What's the justification? To make the umps feel better? It's absolutely silly to rely on human beings (in this particular instance) when the computer can do a 100% accurate job and it will take no more time than it does now. The Cubs probably lost that game last night because of a bad umpire, not because they challenged at the wrong time.
  18. The Roku interface is usually a little wonky for the first week or two and then they get the bugs worked out but I still can't click on the game on the main screen and get to it live. It always sends me to the beginning of the pregame show and there's no option to fast forward. I have to go the the "Games" screen and get to it from there. Only mildly annoying but not sure why the functionality is so bad this year *cough ESPN cough*.
  19. Was Brown held out all weekend because he wasn't ready to go Friday and the other 2 games were blow outs or are we looking at him to finish games until Palencia is back? I'm really curious to see how they deploy the pen with a lead right now. Also, please get a lead to protect because that's more fun than trailing all game.
  20. The only real optimism I have is that last season when DA got all his DBs back and healthy, the defense became an entirely different thing. Maybe his scheme just isn't as dependent on a big pass rush as many others are and that's why they went this route. I'm no expert but I agree with the sentiment of most here that this was disappointing because it didn't address what nearly everyone considered to be the biggest needs in a meaningful way.
