  1. Not sure if it'll be relevant to their playoff rotation, but the Brewers put Quintana on the IL retroactive to 9/15, so he's done for the regular season and I suspect it would be tough for him to be in any kind of shape to start a game in the NLDS.
  2. I was at that clincher. Watching Carl's Jr. run out on the field with the W flag as a cape in Busch was absolutely amazing.
  3. He's missing just off the edges a lot lately and those pitches were dotting the corners earlier in the season. When he got roughed up in Milwaukee it was the same thing, he couldn't hit the corner and if he's not hitting the corner, guys just aren't swinging because they don't have to when he's not getting called strikes. I really think that's the only difference. Just shows how fine the line is between really good and bad in MLB.
  4. I really, really like Ian Happ. He's such a thoughtful dude.
  5. A very small thing, but the way Alcantara just positioned himself to catch that fly ball so he was in a good position to throw if the runner tagged tells me how much better the Cubs have gotten at the details over the years.
  6. I think Boyd needs an extra couple days between his next few starts and he'll probably be fine. He's clearly not sharp but the velocity is there. Hopefully just some fatigue that rest will take care of.
  7. It's certainly a factor, plus if you go compare xERA, FIP or xFIP, Cade isn't nearly as dominant. Like, there's no way anyone expects Horton to go out and throw a CG in a playoff game right now and Arrieta doing that in 2015 was awesome but not a huge surprise.
  8. That's certainly pretty bizarre.
  9. What's this about?
  10. Agreed. I'd much rather have a path of Padres and Brewers to the NLCS than Dodgers and/or Phillies even down a pitcher.
  11. He wasn't good but that line they had in front of him by the end of the game last night was as bad as any the Bears have assembled.
  12. I think the injuries are problematic, Eberflus is probably a better defensive coordinator than he gets credit for, and holy horsefeathers where is the pass rush? You just can't let any QB, let alone one with weapons like the Lions have, sit back there all day and pick you apart.
  13. Same here on Gomber. The Cards and Rockies have both been kind of pitching incompetent of late so I'm pretty interested to see what the Cubs can do with him.
  14. If Hodge is really back, the four guys out of the pen today plus Thielbar and a healthy and effective Soroka in short bursts is a pretty solid backbone suddenly, even without Palencia.
  15. This is awesome.
  16. Yeah, it's going to be 95 here all weekend. So lame.
  17. Just to add to this, it feels like rest between starts is as big a factor as anything in managing these guys. The fatigue that sets in after 70-75 pitches on 4 days rest and 85-90 pitches on 5 days rest seems to be what the Cubs in particular are trying to avoid with Horton (5 no hit innings on 65 pitches on 4 days and 6.1 innings on 87 pitches on 5 days in his last 2 outings). We'll have to see what happens in his next start when he's on 5 days rest again.
  18. This didn't make sense to me either for whatever that's worth. The fact that 2 (or 4 if you include the AL) teams have better odds with worse records and an allegedly tougher path doesn't make any sense logically.
  19. Sure, but you're advocating for a guy who's going to throw less than 90 innings this year to be on track to throw 160 if he gets a full complement of starts and averages 5 IP per game. It's just nonsensical to think that's a likely thing to happen.
  20. Nah, DJ was nearly untouched and wide open. It was just a terrible throw.
  21. There's plenty of video out there of what happened. She was never anywhere near grabbing that ball. It was in the row in front of her.
  22. I would be utterly shocked if Wiggins started the year in the rotation with the MLB club if for no other reason than load management. He's not going to even hit 90 innings this year, so to think he's going to spend an entire season in an MLB rotation is pretty far fetched.
  23. I think a big factor is that last start was on standard 4 days rest and this one was on 5. That extra day of rest really seems to be a key to how the Cubs are handling pitchers these days.
  24. I've said it before, but I absolutely expected this offense to look clunky for a few weeks of the regular season. It's disappointing they gave a game away last night and they probably had to have that game to have any hope at a winning record this year (unless there's a huge turnaround anyway). I'm hoping the missing guys is just an effect of not quite being comfortable with all the reads/progressions yet because the offense is new and he's still thinking too much instead of just reacting.
  25. He still doesn't have as many NFL rushing yards as he did in 4 years of high school, which is absolutely insane.
