  1. I think it's probably about 75% pitch count and 25% 3rd time through penalty at this point when you consider how many bats he's starting to miss.
  2. That was more about the futility of the Reds offense as well today.
  3. That's a big enough platoon advantage in the Cubs favor by bringing in the lefty I don't have an issue with it when he was getting pulled after this inning regardless.
  4. Cade has thrown less pitches than he has through 5 innings.
  5. Yeah, let's put the guy with the .654 OPS against lefties in a spot where he'll get the most ABs against the lefty starter the Reds are putting out there tonight. Terrific plan. 🙄
  6. Hollywood Smothers not being a corner and Hannes Hammer not being a Chuck Cecil style safety is moderately disappointing.
  7. The good news: he's underperforming his FIP by over 5 runs. The bad news: his FIP is over 7.
  8. I would much rather be going through the cold streak now than at the end of September. We all know these guys are better than they've been playing for the last several weeks and regression to the mean works both ways. This team will win more than they lose the rest of the way and just based on how streakiness works, there's a decent chance they're going well again when the playoffs roll around.
  9. I'm having an issue with the Minor League forum still showing as unread even after I click into all of the threads with new posts. It doesn't clear unless I go in and click the "Mark Forum Read" button. It's happened multiple times today, only on that forum, and I've never had that issue before.
  10. Last night I told a buddy they're either winning the world series or are going to implode the first week of September and I don't really see any in between. Either the playing way above their heads will continue or injuries and reality will catch up to them.
  11. He pitched 66 inning at Arkansas in 2022, missed 2023 with TJS, 59 last year and is at 62 this year. It's load management and just because we haven't seen it done this way before doesn't mean it's wrong. I'd suspect he's been throwing on the side to work on specific things in a controlled environment (i.e. short bursts of pitches to not stress his arm too much) and we'll see him throw some more game innings before the end of the year to get the IP count up a little more and allow him to be a more full time pitcher next year.
  12. That is strange. It's still not on MLB either.
  13. Don't hold your breath just based on pitching matchups.
  14. Man, the Cubs are definitely getting shafted on matchups lately. Lodolo, Littel and Abbott for us while the Brewers get the corpse of Erik Fedde, some dude with a 5.02 ERA, and Strider in their 3 games with the Braves on top of missing Gore against the Nats last weekend.
  15. I'd suggest you go look at the second half Amaya and PCA had last year and be patient, especially after the hot start since the break.
  16. Sure, but their owners have a proclivity to actually use the spending power they have.
  17. No reason is a bit of an exaggeration. The same thing happened to him that happened to the rest of the Cubs around this time, just to a much larger degree. Pitching changed immensely in the 2016-2018 time frame and the hitters the Cubs had were extremely susceptible to that change and none of them were ever as good again. Heyward was just the one who suffered the most.
  18. It's been discussed a bit but for some reason he's not getting near as much whiff in 2 strike counts as he is in other counts. The overall whiff rate is fine, just not there with 2 strikes and the general consensus is the strikeouts will come.
  19. I 100% get and am in favor of the reasoning behind pulling Horton after 71 pitches but I hate it in the moment.
  20. I'm not sure I've ever seen a ball go off a 3B's foot like that.
