  1. They scored 4 unearned runs because Nico misplayed a ball he picks 99 times out of 100. The Brewers led MLB in unearned runs scored. Those runs still count, but I suspect they won't get many more gifts like that from an elite defensive Cubs team.
  2. That Steele return date surprises me a bit but that obviously means the rehab is progressing well and that's fantastic news. I'd almost hate to see him come back too early and not be available for a potential playoff run.
  3. The guy who's saying Assad is a better pitcher than Soroka based on feelings calling out someone else for their feeling when they're actually using data as a base for their opinion is very rich irony. You're such a dolt.
  4. I agree with you in principle here, but until it stops happening, the success he's had at doing it is sustained enough that I'm not going to just poo poo it because we can't explain it with data right now.
  5. Based on metrics, recent history and MLB success, yes, and it's not particularly close. He pitched poorly on Saturday unfortunately.
  6. Sure, that's all true, but for me he was the most highly polished turd in this particular scenario and sending Boyd out there on short rest when he's clearly diminished at this point in the season was a fool's errand that I hated from the moment it was announced. Doesn't mean the outcome would have been different, but the process was terrible in my opinion.

To be fair, they hated them too.
  8. Personally, I would have preferred Assad over any of the other choices for game 1 and I was shocked he was left off the roster. In spite of his low K rate, I really think one of the reasons Assad is so effective is that he really throws the entire kitchen sink at hitters so they have no idea what pitch is coming in what count and don't have the option to sit on any particular pitch or any particular location. So, facing a team that doesn't chase much and doesn't whiff much, why not lean into that? We know they don't hit many homers and their quality of contact isn't elite, so take advantage of the Cubs elite defense and the fact that the Brewers are going to swing at strikes, many of which are likely to be pitcher's pitches and likely to induce less than solid contact. I absolutely hated starting Boyd against Milwaukee (they beat him up earlier this year) on short rest (he's so far beyond the IP he's thrown in years) when there were a lot of other options, albeit none of them ideal.

My favorite part is that they're all so stupid and full of hate that they don't understand Puerto Ricans are American citizens.

You're arguing a point he didn't make. Regardless of draft status, all 3 of those players were available to any team in the league for just money and the 2 draft picks signed for a combined $4.3 million. They're having success because the Dallas o-line is very good. Also, perhaps the rushing offense wasn't good last year because their QB was hurt and didn't play in over half their games and they ran a sub replacement level backup out there so other teams were able to stack the box against the run? Or maybe they threw the ball all the time because they were constantly behind because they has a backup QB playing?
  11. It almost feels like that was a move to make sure Horton wasn't pushing to pitch before he was ready and I also think there was some thought to innings needed in the final few games against the Cards so they had the arms available they wanted to for the WC round.
  12. The Brewers put an incredible number of balls in play compared to most teams because they don't strike out much and don't hit a lot of homers. You also probably don't close that game out like they did last night if Shaw isn't playing 3rd. I don't think anybody else on the roster gets that 2nd out in the 9th on the slow hopper.

I agree that going for it was fine as well, but running the ball up the middle and not letting your future HoF QB have the ball in his hands was really the issue I had with it. I get the thought process of wanting to bleed the clock more so the other team can't score again if you do eventually kick the FG or winning outright with a TD, but that play call was questionable at best.
  14. I assume this is referencing the fact that the Yankees are the first team to win the 3 game series after losing the first game?
  15. I would bet they swap a position player for a pitcher with the longer series and unless there's a surprise, I assume it's probably Assad that gets added unless they know Horton will be available for a game.
  16. Yeah, this is pretty much where I am. This team really limped to the finish (although so did a few other teams the last month or so) and not being anywhere near full strength has really reduced the level of expectations I had for them.
  17. They did and Cade Horton had a freak injury 2 weeks ago that cost them their best pitcher. Not much they can do about that, especially when they managed his workload like they did so he would be available in the playoffs.
  18. First, his name is Shota. You've gotten that wrong in like 20 consecutive posts. I've hated almost everything Counsell has done today. Kittredge facing the same part of the lineup he did yesterday was my beef there, not the use of an opener. Letting Shota face Machado instead of a walk or a reliever was inexcusable. There are literally 2 guys in their lineup who hurt LHP and you waved the white flag with one of them up. The Happ thing wasn't a choice because of the Tucker injury, but his history against Cease would have certainly warranted a start for Mo, not his overall performance as a top 10 LF in the game for the last 7-8 years, in spite of what some of the idiots here who love bunts may say.
  19. I think that drifted more toward center as it got out there and if it was a non-windy day it wouldn't have looked as weird.
  20. This was exactly where I was. I didn't like that he faced 2 of those guys yesterday.
  21. I think you have to start Shota given the ceiling and how much worse the Padres are against LHP.
  22. That doesn't feel that unusual when teams have their aces lined up.
  23. Man, Boyd wiggling out of that jam early was just absolutely huge.
  24. The only bunt attempt he made all year ended in disaster, so no. He also hit that ball almost 101 mph, so he put a good swing on it.
