Actually, based on paper, most prognosticators thought they'd win the division, didn't they? They're about where I expected them to be right now, actually. I know they'd have rough stretches. They were expected to win the division, but looking at the staff on paper even at the beginning of the year they didnt look that good. I am suprised we got as much out of Ponson as we did.

I'm game. So when Steve Kline suggest that Mark Prior get hit by one, it's wrong, and it's okay for two of us to say it. I'm becoming less and less proud to be a Cub fan with comments lke this. There's a 4-page thread on Ozzie Guillen, a manager with a World Series ring and a competitive team this year, and it's all negative. So many "real" Cub fans talk about how obsessed with the Cubs Sox fans are, and how they're fickle, and don't exist. Judging by this section of the board and half the people that are/were Cub "fans," many of us aren't too far from that either. I feel like making some of you feel like that Sox pitcher last night. Grow up. I find it real tough to criticize a manager who just brought a World Series to a town where our manager does nothing but underachieve and make excuses. Yes, it was wrong, but how many of you wouldn't trade Guillen for Baker? Prior has never pissed off anyone in the papers or on the field (hitting Bonds doesn't count). Buerhle is right up there with Bonds among players who are pricks. Someone who accuses Dempster of being on the juice, says Mad Dog uses spit, says the Rangers use a scoreboard to steal signs, someone who tries to kill Travis Hafner, it's pretty easy to wish for a line drive or a 100 mph fastball to his head. Have any of your 227 post not been about the Cards or the White Sox. You are so obsessed with those two teams. Let the hatred go and talk about the cubs some.

Thats great but what are you gonna do with the pitching staff. It would at least take one of Marshall or Marmol if not both of them to get Crawford. So you probably end up having at least hill and Rusch in the rotation which would be awful.

Yeah but they dont have to takeout anyone as good as Konerko to put Ortiz in.

I do think that Barton may be a little overrated, but it would be nice to have him as a trading chip for a bat. But the Cards do have another catcher Bryan Anderson in A ball putting up some pretty impressive numbers on the year. His line so far is .333/.414/.458. So it looks like that they might have replaced Barton fairly well.

Well that was just a embarassing to the rest of us regular Cardinals fans.

Agreed Dempsey better be substituted in for him in the second half and should start the next game if he shows anything.

I would take Barton and Haren right now because they could probably package Barton for a hitter right now.

Have any of you guys heard of this Cuban Marti the Cards got in the 18th I have heard he could start in Double AA and one guy on Mlb said he heard Bernie at Cardstalk say he could start in AAA and maybe be up in a couple of weeks. So just wondering if any of you guys who know more about the draft have heard anything about this guy.

He has the flu and isnt even at the park, plus they dont have any pitchers left but starters.

I agree with everything you said, I dont get the love for Ching if he doesnt misplay that ball right before his goal it would have been aneasy goal for Johnson. I thought Conrad played a good game on D as well. Allthough he didnt really have that much played at him.

Man Convey has looked great so far this first half. He has had a couple nice moves and quite a few good centering passes into the box.

The Rangers picked up ~$50 million, depending on what part of his salary that applied to, and how much the Yanks would be willing to pick up of the remainder, it should be discussed. Although I'd remain on the sideline if it's the full contract (throw Pierre, Jones, Neifi, Rusch, Hendry and Baker together and I might talk). I wouldn't care if it was the full contract. He's the 2nd best offensive player in baseball. Behind who? Manny? And no I don't think Pujols is the best offensive player in MLB, I think ARod/Manny are just as good, if not better, and they play in a league where pitchers are more unpredictable then the NL. You are wrong. There is nothing you can point to to even make someone unfamiliar with the league say "eh, maybe he's got a point" It's not close. The difference in OPS between pujols and the #4 guy is the same as the difference between #4 and #60. Pujols has been consistently top 3 since he started playing while being much younger than all the people above him. this year he's simply crushing everyone. edit: I should point out that ARod and manny aren't in that top 4, or even close (top 20) I'd still take ARod or Manny over Pujols, any day of the week. Arod because he is a BETTER player, slightly worse hitter (still one of the game's best), and in his prime...Manny Ramirez simply because he is MUCH more feared then Pujols. I would RATHER pitch to Pujols, then Ramirez. I seriously doubt that you would find very many pitchers at all that would rather face Manny then Pujols, and there is no way he is MUCH more feared then Albert. Manny in his prime was an amazing hitter, but we arent even sure if Albert is in his prime or not yet. So he could get even better then he already is and is showing that so far this season.

And I thought Phattie was above questioning any substance usage, because he said 'let them test me'. OK-I'm calling his bluff. Let Dick Pound do a full test on him. I don't know if they will find anything and I'd like to believe they won't. But, he's the one who volunteered. I will question players like Brady Anderson, Luis Gonzalez and others who out of the blue hit 50 HR one year, when their career stats indicate otherwise. Some people are questioning Phattie, big deal. Phattie can overcharge the donkeys for his autograph and point to the sky all he wants to, but he was the one who said he wanted to be tested. You clearly didnt read the post you quoted because it says in there that he has been tested 3 times already. We get the point you hate the Cardinals and Pujols let it go. There is no proof that he has ever done anything illegal or lied about it so let it go until there is proof.
