  1. The worst part of this deal is that we now have this garbage bag of a pitcher who WILL be in our rotation so the Cubs can necessitate the amount of $$ he is making. The loss of Bradley hurt, but the gaining of Silva makes it 10x worse. Odds that our rotation sucks next year?
  2. Much like the 2008 Cubs, the Cards playoff epic fail was a team effort. Hollidays drop was just a memorable moment. Thank you so much for the clarification - I had no idea their postseason failure was a team effort. You see, living in St. Louis one would have assumed it was all Holliday's fault...
  3. Wow - that's a lot of $$ to give a player who Buckner'd your way out of the playoffs...
  4. I could not have said it any better myself.
  5. Some moron out there will give him way more money than he deserves because he went 14-7 last year, while completely overlooking the 5.22 ERA and 1.49 WHIP. I hope this moron is not Jim Hendry.
  6. I don't understanding how an organization can have any success by significantly overpaying middle relievers - but then again, the Cubs haven't been successful.
  7. Sounds exactly like a Cubs move. Overpay a 3yr contract to a 36 year old whose biggest asset (speed) is on a rapid decline and who just matched a career year in HR's (due in large part to the new Bronx bandbox).
  8. There is an overwhelming amount of racism here in STL...
  9. I was very pleased with the season Dempster had - I expected a regression and he put up another solid season. =D>
  10. I think we can all agree that the Cubs choked in the '03, '07, and '08 postseason.
  11. I can tell you that I'm catching nine kinds of hell here in STL from the Cardinal fans. I've tried to explain the difference to them between choking and losing damn near your entire roster due to injuries - it's not working. Keep in mind these folks ARE from Missouri, though...
  12. this is pretty accurate imo EXACTLY!!! =D>
  13. I'd definitely take Cano, but not sure what would motivate the Yankees to trade for him...
  14. He fell off the wagon. Big deal. He'll be an addict/alcoholic for the rest of his life. Hopefully the relapses are few and far between.
  15. We just gave up Kevin Hart for Grabow - not sure why we'd then ditch him for Ryan and his 86mph fastball...
  16. The reason I'd have interest in Rafael Soriano is that he has posted stellar numbers throughout his major league career (WHIP never higher than 1.143, never walked more than 21 batters) and he's never been a full-time closer so his save numbers aren't real high - thus meaning he might come cheaper. I wouldn't consider paying any closer upwards of $10 million, but I think it might be worth letting Gregg walk and using that money (if we can) for Soriano. That said, I expect him to be too much. If he comes any higher than $4-5 million, I'd lose interest. Soriano's career numbers: 2.74 ERA 306 IP 1.007 WHIP 329:93 K:BB 0.9 HR/9 9.7 K/9 2.7 BB/9 6.3 H/9 157 ERA+ I'd love to have Soriano - he'd be my top choice, hands down (regardless of the injury risk). However, Soriano IS the full-time closer for the Braves, and I can't imagine they wouldn't bring him back. Is he the full-time closer now? He had been sharing the duty with Mike Gonzalez for most of the season, but I hadn't heard that he got it full-time. Yeah, I don't think they ever officially announced it, but he's been the full-time closer since the beginning of July. 10/11 in save opps since then.

  19. Where would you have played him? Probably wouldn't be worth what it would take to get him to make him just a PH. I don't know anything about Thompson, but it doesn't seem like much especially considering the Nats are paying his salary. Johnson would likely be much better than Hoffpauir for the rest of the season, and we'd have the inside track on bringing him back in free agency if we wanted. Yeah, and Johnson knows how to get on base better as good as anyone! Slight injury risk, but he'd have been a great pickup - even better if we were able to bring him back next season.
  20. The GM works within the confines of the budget, and while their budget is one of the lowest (ahead of only SD and FL) they could have been a lot more competitive. I'm fairly confident that everyone who has posted in this thread could have been as good as, or a better GM in Pittsburgh than Littlefield. They couldn't have been any worse...
  21. OC to the Twins for Tyler Ladendorf.
