  1. Does this sound like a good idea for next year? Start an injured pool where we get to pick players that we think will be injured next year? I'm not exactly sure how a 'Dead Pool' works, but I assume you could run an 'Injured Pool' the same way... Anyone?
  2. How long have you been a Cubs fan? Ten Minutes?
  3. Weaver has a really low WHIP. But he probably won't come cheap.
  4. That pretty much sums it up. He also had Burnitz in the 4 spot and Aramis in the 5 for a looong time while we knew it should have been the opposite. I'm telling you Baker is out of control and terribly sucks at his job. I think this is very possibly the worst move Baker made all year. That cost us a #$@&LOAD of runs.
  5. Too bad. I kinda liked Alan Trammel. Isn't his fault that his two big FA singings this year turned out to be injured.
  6. I like Kent a lot. His XBH and RBIs are huge. I think that having him at second base would be an improvment over todd walker. My only worry is that he's 37, whereas Walker is 32. I think Kent for one year would be fine. Anything more than that and I'd prefer Walker. As for Castillo, I think he would be better than either because he solves the problem of leadoff and improves defense. However, I'm gonna through him in the 'longshot' category. I doubt that the Cubs would be able to acquire him. Why is everyone talking about Kent as to Burnitz? He plays at 2B right? EDIT: I mean, if he can play right field he's a HUGE improvement over Burnitz.
  7. If we can't get Abreu for a good price, and Giles would not be a deal, then I could stand another year of Burnitz.
  8. I gotta like the Braves here. I think they're due.
  9. Wtf? Why did everyone vote against it?
  10. Lofton's gotta be up there. The guy is a workhorse. Although it seems he's become quite the one-year mercenary, he's still a good leadoff hitter.
  11. Who cares? It's the best post I've read in a long time.
  12. Oh come on. Let's be honest here, as Ryno is. Pujols deserves the MVP more. It's pretty simple. Cardinals = playoffs because of Pujols this year. Cubs = nowhere. I love Derrek and his year, but Pujols deserves it this year, especially with all the injuries the Cardinals had.
  13. Even if he does have an amazing season next year, I don't see the cubs picking up the option. He's damaged goods, and can't be getting any healthier. And if we aren't a contender by mid-season, I'd expect to see him traded.
  14. Speaking of Sammy, it appears there might have been a rift between him and Tejada. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/29/AR2005092902448.html?sub=AR
  15. mmm.....Luis Castillo.......I like the sound of that. It would also leave Furcal out of the question, meaning we could bring back Nomar and still have Murton play.
  16. Well a mixed bag. I wouldn't want to see Pie starting in 2006, and I'd be mixed about Nomar in left. The way I see it, we're almost assuredly picking up Furcal, and moving Cedeno to 2nd (with Hairston as backup). Nomar will probably be let go, and I'm almost positive Rusch or Williams will be the 5th starter. Murton will probably start in left, Giles in right, and CPatt in center. (will probably be traded shortly after season begins) The only really good news about this is Larry Rothschild on the hot seat.
  17. I think you guys are taking this out of context. What Baker said is that he's gonna play the best team he can against the Astros because he doesn't wanna throw the games and give them any more success than they deserve. I can agree with that. If we can knock out the Astros from the race I'd be very happy.
  18. To combat the godless communism of the USSR. "Opiate of the masses" and such.
  19. Buerhle is 7-7 since accusing Maddux of spitballing. Coincidence? I think not.
  20. I think that with a fully operational and expectational Corey Patterson, we have the WC lead. So I guess it'd be Corey.
  21. I have to be honest, after getting crap ALL SUMMER from the Sox fans at my job, this is pretty fun to watch. After all those Cubs Choke T-shirts. After all the jokes about playoffs....its the Sox who are squandering the biggest division lead I've ever seen....if it happend would it be the biggest ever? I can bet you good money we won't see too many 'Choke' T-shirts anymore if things keep going this way.
  22. Grinder Baseball Rule #195 When doing commercials to get people into the hell-hole that is the Cell, frequently repeat "the best record in baseball" and emphasize the things that the Cell has going for it. A magic trick as the "Guch" makes the ball disappear between his legs, there is more to baseball than food - for instance food, and remember the best seat in the house is on the north side.
  23. You don't frighten us, English pig-dogs! Go and boil your bottoms, sons of a silly person. I blow my nose at you! I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough water! I fart in your general direction! You mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!
  24. Frankly, we better get something really good. He's one of the best second basemen in the game offensively. LINK You have to constantly change the filter to 350 ABs to see his name, but all his offensive stats are up there. Plus, he comes cheap. I can't see how we could possibly replace that offensive talent. And his defense isn't that bad. In fact, it's only .001 lower than Brian Roberts. So in my opinion, it would be foolish to trade him unless we got something gigantic, not a one or two year player, but a cornerstone.
