  1. Hmm...that could be a good thing then. I'm assuming that they needed to trade walker to obtain one of those new players then?
  2. As much as I'd hate to see Neifi back on the team, a couple of things have got to be addressed here. First, his defense was some of the best in the league. So knock him all you want for lack of power, not taking walks, whatever, but his defense was pretty good. Second, this is a rumor of a rumor. This yokel is saying that they are "talking" about it, and this is from the same guy saying the Royals might sign Furcal? The Royals?
  3. WHAT? Anyone have an explanation for this? :-# Cubs wanted to get him out of there before he got lit up so they could trade him? Maybe they saw what they needed to see to make their decision. That doesn't sound like personal reasons.
  4. Uh it says on cubs.com that WHAT? Anyone have an explanation for this? :-#
  5. Oh I don't know. My housemates seemed relatively interested in baseball, but go crazy when talking about soccer. One of them even does a soccer coverage on the uni radio. Not only that, but there's a sports bar across the street, and not only was it packed for the England/Poland qualifying game, but even the Arsenal/Sparta Prague (right?) game.
  6. The Olympic soccer competition is also far from any country's best. The men's tournament actually has an age restriction. Baseball was dropped for one reason. It was a chance for the Eurotrash at the IOC to stick it to the United States. Yeah, but at at least they have the World Cup for soccer. As for the 'Eurotrash', whatever man. I suppose you've met tons of European people to make this assumption haven't you?
  7. Cheap yes, valuable no. Number four and five pitchers are a dime a dozen, unless they are left handed. Besides, if the are cheap and valuable why not keep the money and trade the guys anyway? Pitching is not this team's problem? I can think up a number of reasons why this is a bad. It just doesn't make any sense to me. 9th best ERA in the NL isn't a problem? Good joke. Someone call wasn't a joke, asshat. Pitching isn't this team's problem and even if it is Burnett isn't that good and is often injured. Let's not get carried away here. Oh god. Here come the swearing police...
  8. Actually, I like that lineup quite a lot. You really think we'd get castillo that cheap though? If that was the opening roster, I'd be one very happy cubs fan.
  9. I agree, and I certainly hadn't thought about the day games ending at at what? 5 PM? And 5 PM in Wrigleyville really is a bar scene. There's no denying it. Still, I really respect the fact that he didn't participate in the champaign. That is incredibly telling in my opinion. 4 years, 35 million....4 years, 35 million.....4 years, 35 million.....
  10. Oh I agree. But I like that through reading through some of this Mets blog, the general consensus is that while they would like Furcal, they don't view him as essential, more of a "luxury." Basically, it seems like they're saying "Let the Cubs overpay for him." Here is another blog entry with comments about today's report about the Cubs and Furcal Also, the links they have on the left regarding players in the hot stove are pretty useful.
  11. From comments on a Mets Blog (I realize it means close to nothing, but..)
  12. Interesting I could see this...Do the Mets have any up-and-coming prospects worth mentioning? How about Lastings Milledge? Also, they have a pitcher in AA, called Yusmeiro Petit.

  15. In all likelihood, Hendry is assuming either Prior or Wood to be down at the start of next year, and then making his rotation accordingly. Which means that there still is a possibility of Burnett or Washburn. In related news, Burnett just visited with the Blue Jays for the weekend, where the Blue Jays owner announced in increased budget from ~55 to ~85 million. Pair him up with Takin' a Holiday and that sounds like a little more competition in the AL East.
  16. I still can't beleive we had Enrique Wilson on our team. That's just....mind-boggling.
  17. This is the best news I've heard all day. I was kinda pulling for Walker to be on the team next year, but if the management is set on dealing him, we could get some very good things. Talk about selling high... I think Hairston will be our super-sub next year, and might even start in CF if Corey can't get his stuff together. C'mon....Furcal....c'mon....Furcal.....
  18. Can't really blame them for cancelling it though. Unlike basketball, this is far from a collection of our best.
  19. This Royals one is priceless: http://www.progressiveboink.com/dugout/archive/ax6-28-05-4.htm
  20. Yeah, so this webcomic is really funny. It's basically like what would happen if the players got together in a chat room. WARNING: BAD LANGUAGE Some of my favorites are: http://www.progressiveboink.com/dugout/archive/dugout8-2e.htm http://www.progressiveboink.com/dugout/archive/dugout7-19a.htm http://www.progressiveboink.com/dugout/archive/dugout4-23-05.htm http://www.progressiveboink.com/dugout/archive/jon4.htm http://www.progressiveboink.com/dugout/archive/dugout8-24-05.htm http://www.progressiveboink.com/dugout/archive/ax3-8-05-2.htm http://www.progressiveboink.com/dugout/archive/dugout9-15-05.htm
  21. I meant looking into the future. Cedeno is gonna be cheaper for years into the future, especially after this year. This might be important with both big contracts like Furcal and Giles for 3-4 years each.
  22. Aren't the Indians due to get a lot more expensive this year? Especially with a couple in their pitching staff? BTW, ESPN and SI have horrible predictions. They can't even get it right at the beginning of the season, let alone before the hot stove finishes.
  23. Also, how do you guys like Hairston for the Utility role? I think he did a great job last year in CF and 2B defensively, and while maybe he wasn't a very good leadoff hitter, he at least is a good defensive substitute.
