The Giants have traded setup man LaTroy Hawkins to the Orioles for reliever Steve Kline. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/bbw/2005-12-06-winter-meetings-buzz_x.htm?POE=SPOISVA
How funny would it be for the Mets to land Beltran, Pedro, Wagner, Delgado, and then Sammy?  Good thing he signed last or the previous players would worry about 'the commitment to winning'.
I would guess the Leadoff hitter actually 'leads off' more in the NL than in the AL, because the pitcher hits last in the NL, and that's usually a sure out. Add that to the poor hitters being lumped at the bottom, and I could see the leadoff hitter leading off the inning about 2-3 times a game in the NL. That's just a guess though. EDIT: The important thing is that he gets on base in front of our big boppers.
You know, Hendry's comments about Nomar's finding a better fit somewhere else and Nomar's injuries twice in a row might extinguish that idea. But stranger things have happened.
Well Konerko signed a five year, $60 million contact with $12 a year and a limited no trade clause that means Konerko can choose six team to whom he cannot be traded.
They've also never won a World Series since well before WWI. At some point, they have to get over their supposedly responsible stance on contract length and actuallly acquire impact players. They've also never pitched an entire game with firstbasemen. Your response was illogical. There are a number of things the Cubs have never done since they won the World Series. I seriously doubt that not offering 5 year contracts had anything to do with that. Besides, it's only recently that the Cubs have become a big-market team.
