  1. I think the best bet here would be the Reds. Drop a 5 spot on them and see if you can't add two more zeros to that. Plus, I think the Reds have a better chance than the Brew Crew.
  2. Will I daresay the Cubs have improved their bullpen and bench (picking up Mabry and dropping Macias), our outfield should be more productive, and I won't mention anything about pitching since it seems such a coin toss. But the Cards have done worse in almost every category. I'm seeing a very vulnerable Cards team next year.
  3. No way. BTW, I'm assuming that Walker will not be with the team. I wouldn't give the leadoff spot to somebody who just started in the ML, I think you want someone with experience. Some who is a big steal threat to make the pitchers nervous. You want someone who frequently walks more than he strikes out. To me, neither Cedeno or Murton have enough experience to bat leadoff. Especially after trying to force Corey into that role. I think Pierre was a huge pickup for the cubs. I really think he improves the team a lot. Finally, a tested, proven leadoff hitter. There's no way I would bat him anywhere else.
  4. Wasn't their bullpen rather weak last year?
  5. Right now the Cubs are only 8-1 http://www.vegas.com/gaming/futures/worldseries.html
  6. No kidding. I'm making the sales pitch as we speak to my parents.
  7. I actually like Cedeno in the second spot. In my mind, he would be the ideal #2 hitter, assuming that Walker has left. To me, Cedeno is much more of an established player than Murton is. Pierre (obvious) Cedeno (I think he could really groove here, plus he's got good speed) Lee (no surprise) Ramirez (no surprise) Jones (I have a feeling he'll do much better in Wrigley) Barrett (Good bat, especially in clutch and rallys) Murton (Good bat so far, still seems rather unproven to me [see DuBois]) Hairston/Neifi! (Low OBP, low AVG, low SLG)
  8. only 34 votes? C'mon people...
  9. Does anyone expect him to be around for the full three years though?
  10. I like the idea of extending Hendry, but what I don't like is the seemingly automatic following on an extension for Dusty. I'm not so sure it follows, especially, as Bruce mentioned, if the season starts out with a sputter. I really don't like the way Hendry talks up Neifi! and Jerry the Lesser and then continues on without mentioning Todd Walker. It's really a shame. So that's two players we'll be trading away for nothing. At least Hendry was ready to embellish Corey's talents a bit to raise his trade value. What's happening to Walker is a crime. Especially if Neifi! replaces him.
  11. That's Bruce Miles. He also mentions that... Which is what I was referring to.
  12. Also, what's this crap about Hairston improving in the second half? Pre-All Star: .276/.361/.400 Post-All Star: .241/.303/.329 HUH?
  13. Pretty tight race here. I'm surprised so many wanted him to stay as a backup OF...he won't improve without significant play time...
  14. What should Hendry have done in your opinion?
  15. Phew. That would have been ugly.
  16. It appears he does have moments of sanity....amazing...
  17. Wow. That makes me feel a bit better. Surgery makes me nervous, and as a Cubs fan, with good reason.
  18. I just don't get it. Hendry wants people who can catch the ball, and I thought Soriano was worse than Walker. I just don't think you improve the team with this trade. Also, why is it every year there are players that we 'have to trade'? Doesn't that really limit our trading power?
  19. Can someone explain about this 'slurve'?
  20. Can you also show number of innings pitched? But my that is interesting...
  21. You can't honestly be surprised about that...all he would have had to do was visit this site once and he probably wouldn't want an interview. Hell, all he'd have to do is read this thread.
  22. I think that he deserves it.
  23. 57) The Bear's Superbowl victory inspires the Cubs to beat out the Cardinals for the division.
