  1. 58 )Maddux travels back in time to return to the Cubs in a revitalized, younger self ala Pedro.
  2. I agree that JVB is probably an injury waiting to happen, and I saw him flail at the bigs and it wasn't impressive, but I still think that the PTBNL could have at least been from the top 25 red sox prospects...I mean his minor league numbers were good enough to warrant that.
  3. To be fair to Ciaramella, he was injured during that time at A ball.
  4. It's good to see he has his priorities straight. :D
  5. The problem is the Cubs don't have anybody more promising than Kelton ready to take 460 ABs in a corner OF spot in Iowa. Wow. That is a very depressing sentence. :?
  6. Hondas are really, really good on quality. I would have trouble buying anything else.
  7. That's not good for business. Man, am I glad we're giving him more time with Juan Pierre.
  8. Good. We can give those 460 ABs to someone with more promise.
  9. First of all, I'm almost positive there aren't as many 'value' dates as there were last year. Coicidentally, there aren't any value or regular value games after May and before I leave for school in August. I don't remember it being this bad last year. Not only did ticket prices go up, they made cheaper ones less available. :? Oh well. Upper Deck here I come. :x Also, how come other teams have convinient packages like 20 game tickets or half season, or different weekend deals or something. All the cubs have is season (which is full) and single game tickets. It's seriously bogus.
  10. Ha. At this rate how long do you think he'd play on the cubs before demanding a trade? Two weeks?
  11. You know what, I agree. I think it's high time to determine if he can keep up the SOs in the big leagues. I was wondering about that the other day, why he did so well in the minors, and then it came to me. Curveball. Why do some batters never make it past the Minors and get stuck there for years? Because they can't hit curveballs, and I must say Hill has quite the curveball. But he needs more than that pitch to succeed in the majors. So it is sink or swim time. I would like him to have about 4 starts by the all-star break.
  12. Yes, but it also increases the chances of Quentin being traded. Also, I did mention that it would not be a one-for-one trade CP for Quentin. So yes, I do realize that. I just thought Quentin looked like a very talented prospect on a team with no room for him. IE, available for trade.
  13. Well I was thinking we'd put him in AAA in case Murton didn't work out, or as a 4th OF/1B backup.
  14. Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic is reporting that free agent OF Eric Byrnes and the Diamondbacks have agreed to a 1-year, $2.2 million deal... ...is byrnes starts, that means that either rookie OF Carlos Quentin or rookie OF/1B Conor Jackson won't, which could indicate that one might be part of another deal... From: http://www.thehotstovereport.com What do you guys think? Carlos Quentin's stats really catch my eye, especially because the Diamondbacks are supposedly interested in Corey Patterson? I realize it wouldn't be a one-for-one trade....but the stats are there for Quentin... Last year in AAA he hit .301/.422/.520 in 452 ABs. He also has an almost 1:1 ratio of BB/SO. He's not a speed-demon, but he hit 21 homers and 28 doubles. For some reason, he also gets HBP quite a bit as well.
  15. Now. I'd rather trade Lee for Tejada than Prior for Tejada. I agree.
  16. Yeah I remember him killing us every time he came up to bat. Just crazy.
  17. I would be more than happy to have Carlos Lee in the outfield. Sure, last year was almost his worst year since joining the majors, but his OBP falloff was simply due to less hits, not less walks or more strikeouts. He has a huge amount of extra base hits, and hit 41 doubles last year. He's only 29 years old, and his BB/SO ratio is very similar to Derrek Lee's (if you exclude Derrek's monster season last year). This tells me he is a young player with good plate discipline and power. Not only that, but he's not bad on the basepath either, going 42-14 for steals over the last three years. In 2004 his OBP was .366. I'd trade Murton for him in a heartbeat. (Obviously I know other things would have to be included)
  18. Wow maybe next year we can trade them Jacque Jones. So this is why Tejada wants to leave....crappy RF signings.
  19. I have the feeling Prior is gonna break out this season....maybe not another 2003, but a great season. Then they won't think of trading him so easily.
  20. Actually the Daily Herald one is really good news. It says the deal is not anywhere close on either side, and that although they like Prior, they don't think we're giving up enough, and we don't think they're giving up enough.
  21. You guys really think Clemens is gonna be able to cut it next year? Even with all the broke-body injuries he was having last year?
  22. Or, hopefully, that FOXsports is full of s%@. Oh yes...that's what I'd been waiting for. C'mon no trade. C'mon....
