  1. Wow. His OBP isn't that bad.
  2. You like excuse making, undue credit taking, feel sorry for me type guys? He didn't make any excuses. He said he wrongly assumed that players would have such basic fundamentals like bunting and covering first base. How can he continue to "assume" this? Its been this way ever since he arrived in the spring of 2003. For as much as he talks up wanting to be a fundamentally sound team in the media, it doesn't appear that any of his teams over the past three years have improved at that whatsoever. I'm not sure that's a valid point. Who has been on this team since he arrived? Other than Wood, Prior, and Zambrano, everyone else has been brought in or brought up.
  3. You like excuse making, undue credit taking, feel sorry for me type guys? Yes. Yes I love excuse making, undue credit taking, feel sorry for me type guys. Seriously, I liked what I heard about Dusty from the players as well. If you're gonna chastise players, obviously the only way to do it right is behind closed doors. You make Dusty out to be someone that was revelling in his failure. It sounds like he's taken a couple lessons after this season, and he's gonna be playing Murton and Cedeno as starters. I don't think he was taking credit for Murton, I think he was just explaining how he dealt with a guy coming almost straight up from AA, only have like 60 ABs in AAA. Some of the statheads will tell you that Murton was lucky with some of his hits early on. Like he said, Cedeno would have gotten more playing time if he didn't get injured. He didn't make any excuses. He said he wrongly assumed that players would have such basic fundamentals like bunting and covering first base. He said his team didn't play up to where he wanted it to be. I guess I just got a different impression from the interviews.
  4. Wow. That's awful.
  5. Actually, the interviews made me like Dusty a lot more, not so much Hendry, but I got a really positive image of Dusty.
  6. Personal attack? I was agreeing with Sulleymon about TT's response...
  7. he's looking for an explanation that isn't shrouded cliche. i'm sure he'll acknowledge a decent answer to his question if that answer is offered. Yeah, I'm sorry about that. I didn't realize how cryptic this guy was. Not to mention how pointless it would actually be to post anything useful.
  8. Well that's true, but he hasn't technically made the team yet.
  9. As far as the Cardinals, I hear that Braden Looper is a clone of LaTroy Hawkins in respect to pressure. (This coming from Mets fans)
  10. I was looking at the depth chart and I noticed that... LF: Murton, Hairston CF: Pierre, Hairston RF: Jones, Mabry Pie To me, especially if Hairston might be starting at 2B, that outfield depth is not 'deep' enough. I would like to see another player or two in backup there...who would be in line from AAA Iowa?
  11. Another question if you have the time Len, Will you take us on a tour of the new bleachers/batter's eye diner before the first game?
  12. How about 'continue to put pressure on Iraq and work out a wider global consensus and investigate WMD accusations further'?
  13. Brewers: I'm sorry, I think Sheets has the talent to be a #1 starter, but his frequent trips to the DL will soon resemble our own Wood. He has some kind of inner ear thing that throws off his balance, and I'd say that would prevent the Brew Crew from going anywhere. In fact, I wouldn't say the Brew Crew are much improved from last year, whereas the Cubs have made several improvements over last year. We've upgraded at CF, leadoff, SS, LF, bench (no more Macias), we have more speed, and an improved bullpen. Our pitching is the same situation as it is every year, but the Cubs have done a lot of improving in other areas. So I don't understand "The Brewers are Coming" attitude when the cubs have made a lot more improvements, and more significant ones at that. Hell, even if our starters do the same, we should win about 10 more games just through a better bullpen and a real leadoff hitter. How many games did you watch DLee get a hit with no one on board or the bullpen piss away a lead? Too many for me to count that's for sure...
  14. 1992 ROY for the Brewers. Yeah I think I have that card too.
  15. What if Walker hits for a better average and gets more HRs, but JHJ has better defense and is faster on the basepaths (assuming they both have similar OBP)? I think that's the situation we might be seeing as the season opens, if Baker hasn't made up his mind already.
  16. Hey Transmogrified Tiger, could you please not just respond in one-word posts? Clearly you want to say something, and it justs seems inane to respond to posts with 'why'. Thanks.
  17. Here's a strange fact for you. Over the last three years, both Todd Walker and JHJ have the same number of ABs vs. Lefties (290) . Not only that, but they have the same number of hits. (80) And the same number of walks. (25) And the same batting average. (.276) That's just wierd.
  18. I understand why someone would want Hairston over walker. Why do we need another speed guy? In case Juan Pierre strikes out/can't get on base and we need someone to be able to run from first to third on a single or from second to home on a single by DLee or Aram? Honestly, if Hairston puts up a .378 OBP, I'd much rather have him at 2B. And I like Walker.
  19. If some of you are like me, the last place I look for cubs news is on cubs.com, but they have some interesting new articles that have info that I hadn't seen before. Item A is entitled 'Walker Good to Start?' Some quotes: Dusty on Murton: Item B titled 'Hairston Says He's Healthy' Finally, Item C. The 'Walker Good to Start?' article, clearly illustrates what Cubs management is thinking. Good to Start? I'm sorry, has Todd Walker been injured and no one knows about it yet? Combine that with the article on how JHJ is 'ready' and healthy for next year and I think you see where the Cubs are aiming. I found it surprising that only DLee and TWalker knew that JHJ was still recovering. That sounds suspicious to me. However, I do like that he's running a lot and has lost 12 pounds. ( ) The last bit was certainly not a bad thing, but doesn't really remedy the Jones signing at all.
  20. So let's say at the very least 5.5 million more to the payroll. Probably closer to 8.5...
  21. Considering Pierre's year last year, I'm surprised he wants so much. If he goes to arbitration, there's one more player you won't see next year.
